I’m in the discord. The comments on people getting banned for asking questions isn’t true. People are only ever banned, if they’re in capable of properly, engaging with the rest of the community people have only ever been banned for being assholes to other people or spam in the server every day calling the mod fake
Thank you for providing perspective, this really helps. I still think it's best to also curate and manage a more public space such as Reddit though, since it's more commonly seen by curious browsers as opposed to a discord server
I actually updated on purpose in order to rollback for a video and didn't notice anything different about mods. I don't believe there's any detriment to rolling back since it's a 1:1 file swap, but I could be wrong. In any case, I'm glad you were able to stop it, many others were able to do the same as well. 1.10.163 is the best version

It's a free, gigantic mod made by people in their free time. For your entertainment. They have no pr department and they don't owe anyone anything. As soon as you're doing what most people here are doing, demanding something, you're entitled. Simple as that.
So they do actually have PR personnel according to their discord. That being said, they did make an announcement that the PR situation would be changing, so I'm not sure what that exactly entails
They have been incredibly transparent, and receive hundreds of people daily lambasting them constantly about how the mod isn’t released yet. It’s an entirely free project and made on the devs free time. It’s perfectly acceptable to start calling the community entitled, just look at half the comments on this video. There are devs in the discord telling people daily every thing they can possibly tell people. Love your vids tho ❤️
Hey completely fair opinion, in this case I'm really just showcasing what the community is turning into. Realistically I'm still looking forward to the mod and still want to see their work. It's really just the PR and Community Management that's been confusing people for a while now, and it's lead to this atmosphere of belligerence and theorycrafting that can't be healthy long term. Hmm, I don't know about property rights on video games, but could Bethesda file a lawsuit against these guys for making a "patented" claim when they(Folon) are using Bethesdas engine.There has to be some agreement between them right?
So, the trademark was filed for "Team FOLON" specifically, which is their organization, and it could be argued they just /happen/ to be working on Fallout London. In any case, that's an outcome I really don't want because that effectively shuts down nearly a decade of work by talented and passionate people. You might want to also cover the recent drama with the Fallout: Ashfall mod. They just lost one of their twitter accounts and the owner behind the other twitter account made posts that basically exposed the Ashfall devs for wanting to start an uprising against Nexus Mods because they saw nexus mods as a "woke site"
Usually FNV mods are outside my wheelhouse but I can probably spare time to look into it. I dont wanna do too many videos on mod drama because I don't want to become known as "that guy" but if it's bad enough it probably deserves to be talked about. Any idea where to start? It´s a bit hard to judge without having more informations from both sides. Consumer-wise next gen made no sense but licensewise it made sense as a new version fitting to the release of the tv-show was a clear indication for increased sales of this already old game. Also, as much as i have seen, fallout:london could be story and questwise a lot closer to fallout:new vegas quality as to the pretty flat story and quests in fallout 4. And we all know that Todd Howard hates new vegas. So the next gen update hits 2 flys at the same time - increase sales and publicity for fallout 4 (and partially fallout 76) and at the same time sabotate the competition with the potentially better fallout:london mod.
The thing is we don't know that Todd Howard hates New Vegas, this is largely a narrative that started out of no where. This has been corroborated by Chris Avellone on his Medium page as recently as this year, and he's even very confused about this sentiment. I personally don't think it had anything to do with wanting to delay Fallout London. In fact, the update wouldn't have had any effect if they had chosen to release what they had after downgrader patches and rollback methods were made for the community.
@@SnailOXD We don´t know it exactly, but Todd tends to repeat so often that he loves new vegas that from a flat psychological aspect at last something has to be true on this assumption between him and that game. Bethesda are great at creating the worlds themself but filling them with stuff (story/quests/content) was never as good as other companies acting in the same league. Far Harbor was the closest they managed to get to the fallout style of questing and storytelling, recognizeable a lot better. In view of the mods delay i also don´t think that it was planned from bethesda, but the delay effect still would fit their interests as it could draw people away from vanilla fallout 4 at that time.

Well, as far as I know they had trobules with uploading the mod in the first place due to its size and they're probably working out a deal with GOG, also MCM and XDI have'nt got uptdated yet and I think FOLON depends on both of them Correct me if I'm wrong
I think it's 100% coming, but I think they're just in the middle of debugging things and adding back previously cut content with this delay. I have faith the next time we get a date, that's the one.
@SnailOXD from what I know as I don't do new vegas modding is that a lot of the worst stuff has been gutted and the current version is very different from the release version. Idk if it's possible but there may be people still holding onto the release version
Beth never liked the modding community its why they made Creation Club. The F4 update was nothing but a power move to regain full control of their IP and all PAID mods. It Just Works
No, take off your Tinfoil hat, the F4 update was just poor management on Bethesda's part, nothing more, they probably barely had any one on this update, since most of their work force are on other projects.
I have to say I really disagree; I don't think Bethesda cares one way or another about mods. The monetization stuff started as a push from Zenimax when they pressured BGS to implement MTX in games and start working on ESO and F76. In any case, part of the unwritten agreement between Bethesda and modders is that Bethesda can't make concessions for modders. Modders will have to react as they have for nearly a decade at this point between several games. Truthfully, I'm not even sure how the narrative that "Bethesda did it on purpose" even started, and I don't want to ascribe it to Fallout London either, but I'm not sure where else it could come from
If Bethesda never liked the modding community then they wouldn't have given us the modding tools, dummy. They would've never even offered the Fallout London mod authors to work for them.
As someone working in marketing communication, this is my opinion on the situation: They are just devs people coming together to make a mod, therefore I'm certain that most of them don't have the professional PR skillsets. Just don't expect the level of communication as triple A company, even them can fuck up with their community. PR communication is crazy expensive, and you can't hired PR people for a non-commercial project, even with the money from patreon/ selling mercs, it will never be able to cover the cost.
The thing is though they do have PR personnel, so while they may not have professional skillsets it's still within the scope of their role to perform effective PR
It's nobody's project except the Team that is working on it,but of course people will act entitled and demand transparency from the dev team which they owe no one. So wait for it or move on stop harassing the projects developers.
I think transparency is a good thing, free project or not. In any case it would certainly go a long way to clear up misconceptions and the belligerent community atmosphere

They’ve been incredibly transparent, and have stated all the time they don’t want to give people dates when they aren’t ready because people take shit and run with it and then start making RU-vid videos about it causing more confusion.
Modders build a company out of their hobby...good for them. Bethesda updates scupper their plans for now...bad for everyone. We're still on track to still get a free massive game mod good for us :) and Folon has to deliver or their dreams of a building a company die...good motivation. The rest is gossip and chaff.
That's the basic facts, yeah. In any case when the mod releases it'll be a great day to be a Fallout fan, but in the meantime working on their PR will do wonders to keep people on their side. Bad information and theorycrafting spreads quick
If you have a community of people who have stood by, defended the devs, waited so long for the mod, and hoped for the best, it's a smack in the face to those of the community by the devs to call the community entitled over reasonable concerns about why everything is starting to look sketchy at best, and worse still belittling and not presenting as a cohesive team with actual accurate information that is instead walked back into confusion just ignites more concern. There has been so much unnecessary drama more so on the part of the FOLON team than anything else as far as I'm aware, which is immensely disappointing. I've said it once and maybe more before and I'll say it again. I love and will support as best I can any fan project with such care and love put into it as FOLON has been presented to have. But I won't back a team which scorns it's fanbase over even just the most reasonable concerns that are had with no information given. All they need to do is apologise for the drama and be transparent, we're not asking for their first born as tribute sacrifices. We're asking for transparency because we love this project and want to see it succeed.
I think they could've released it regardless of the "next gen" update and simply have left it as is and tell everyone they'll be updating it for the new update going forward with no plans for the last gen to be fixed in any way.
We knew the fallout tv show was coming out in April. Everyone figured the next gen update would accompany this. We knew this in October, FOLON had its release date in December. They are distributing through GOG. This means they could keep FOLON as a separate instance of the game. No downgrading required on the user side, same as something like Enderal. This, mixed with how they’ve been acting since makes me convinced they never intended to release in April, and have been using the next gen update as an excuse. Definitely don’t have confidence in the project.
Honestly I think the project will be okay, we'll still see a release, and it'll be just as good as we're all thinking. I think there's just been a slip-up in PR and Community management, and it's led to this atmosphere of theorycrafting and belligerence that is making it worse for everyone
Great video, I've had concerns for a while regarding this project and something definitely seems off, it strikes me as odd that the team follow an NDA and that we havent actually seen any real gameplay. I'm actually one of the comments featured in this video, so it was cool to see that. The argument of "its a free mod" and "youre entitled" is stupid, especially about a project that was perfectly happy with the publicity until they started to make questionable decisions. If you want to structure a public release and drum up hype, you have to be open to scrutiny. I hope this mod comes out and is great, I just want to see some transparency and to know how far away we actually are from a release.
So AFAIK the team is working on their PR as we speak. I think they're sticking to comms mostly in the discord, but who knows if that will change; I think it should change personally, and there should be a bit more of a strategy behind posts and their SocMedia presence. I'm still looking forward to the mod, and still hope the team does their best. @@SnailOXD I don't think anything is going to improve if they are still primarily using that discord server of theirs. The post prilla made claiming that his "days/weeks" comment was apparently taken out of context (it wasn't) and that the very public announcements that they put on their announcement page, reddit and twitter were apparently just for devs and no one else, which isn't very believable, doesn't fill me with too much confidence. I would love for it ti improve and the mod to get a great release, but I'm not holding my breath on that. We'll see though. Anyway, I've been subbed for quite a while now and I'm glad you made a fair video covering it because it has been an absolute mess recently.
I think the team has the resources and the knowledge to fully finish the mod this year, but let's be fully honest, BGS is fully using scum tactics like hidden code and fake cease and desist papers to harm their fans. I won't call out one of the team members for being a spy to hammer the fans from behind again, we're all used to it, but it DOES feel like some bad planning and corporate conspiracy?
I mean it's possible, but I try not to engage in conspiracy theories. It gets messy when trying to substantiate anything with information that isn't totally credible or accurate. I'm more subscribed to the idea that it was an SEO moment for their game due to the TV Show, similar to how nearly every RU-vidr suddenly had a Fallout-related video when the TV Show came out. Would there be some incentive for BGS to harm the modding scene on versions moving forward? Only if there was an increased focus on gearing content toward the Creation Club, but I haven't seen or heard of it yet. What I'm more willing to believe is that future Fallout's will include some form of "always-online" a la 76 to dissaude modding and encourage shop purchases
It would be strange not to think about multi-million dollar investments after an interview on BBC, demonstrating their willingness to create large projects on the level of Fallout 4 and risk their reputation as shares in the future due to the unsatisfactory quality of the release, as CDPR did with Cyberpunk. If I were in their place, I would also not be in a hurry, it’s better to do everything as perfectly as possible, but at the same time there is no need to say too much, like words about downgrading. Just do your thing as usual, don’t give release dates, show gameplay videos, screenshots and everyone will be fine with it. There is nothing wrong with monetizing your talents, work and passion for what you love, but you need to be able to be open to people, enough so that they are confident in mutual love for games and are not toxic. Although, of course, many gamers are extremely unfriendly and inadequate, it is impossible to change them, but with the rest you can still sometimes have a dialogue, just to maintain a good atmosphere of the community, especially since some of them pay on Patreon and buy merch. As unpopular or stupid as it may sound, at the end of the day we all need to be kinder, that's all that really matters.

People who have dedicated several years of their lives to modding and literally created a new game do not know that there have already been and probably will be rollbacks to previous versions of Bethesda games in the world? Seriously?
To be fair to them, I don't think they were expecting how badly the NGU was going to mess up the game (no one really was), but I believe they should have just released what they had. I believe the current delay is to reinstate previously cut content.

Perhaps this is for the best if it really is about cut content and as a result we will get a polished and gigantic mod (game) that we have ever seen.
Nothing is "falling apart" ffs. While I do acknowledge the frustration many apparently have with how the next gen release and communication around it are being handled, a bunch of kids on summer break having too much free time to spend on reddit and some people who honestly seem like they're obsessed with conspiracy theories absolutely do not represent the community which is 30k+ people on Discord alone and even more on RU-vid and other platforms. There is time and place to discuss how this release has been handled, and this is not it. You should just delete your video, as it's nothing but click bait and whining about devs "not releasing what they had" while they're working their asses off as we speak to do JUST THAT and EVEN MORE.
I won't be deleting the video unfortunately. Reddit is a good general measure of a community's health, whether you like the platform or not. Clickbait is not what this is, not in the slightest. I'm more than happy to wait for the release, but that doesn't negate that there are real communication issues which are enflaming already impatient fans. This sort of thing is what Community Management roles are for.

This video was made to highlight the general atmosphere in the community; in fact this discussion is proof that things are not doing great. Is there something wrong about pointing out an issue where I see it? I don't think so, and I wouldn't call this bait of any sort when there are examples to draw from. Even the devs themselves have admitted they will be doing PR differently from now on, so, yeah this all still holds weight
Really just seems like a portion of FOLON's followers styling itself as "the community" demanding stuff they really have no right to. The devs have no obligation to them.

I've heard a lot of accusations of FOLON being "vaporware" but I don't think that's the case either. The amount of visual proof we have is proof enough that a FOLON does exist, but for whatever reason the devs aren't releasing it until later.
Fallout London was killed by Bugthesda when they released their absurd patches. This was done intentionally, but in so doing we have final proof that Bugthesda hate their customers and the modders that fix what they screw up so often.
I don't necessarily subscribe to that idea, but I can see why people would think so. I think it was Bethesda prioritizing an update to make their game SEO relevant (which is actually a major consideration in releases these days; part of why Starfield failed so hard on opening as it was up against BG3) in time for the TV Show's popularity. I'm willing to bet, had the TV Show not released this year, we'd be playing FOLON right now. However, I do think that Team FOLON should have just released anyway, since they're releasing a Pre-Gen version in addition to a Next Gen version.
Oh hell yeah you'd love these. I'd argue these also pair very well with the mods in my newest Settlement Mod video, especially Useful Deco Buildings, which can help flesh out a City settlement really well
From my experiences, especially with modded content, is have very low expectations and don’t focus on the development cycle. When/if it comes out I’ll download it when/if I remember it. There’s A LOT to life, games should just be a fraction of a fraction of it.
Agreed, many people make gaming their primary hobby and in this space there's a lot of "well-poisoning". I think that's part of the issue as well. The problem is that people expect so much of everyone these days as well. Is it perhaps unfair to expect the FOLON team to be in constant communication with their audience? Could be, but that's the norm these days and people fly off the handle otherwise. It's the whole of the reason "Community Manager" roles exist nowadays. For myself, gaming isn't even my primary hobby; making videos is, I love making a video way more than I love playing the game it's about.

Horse armor was our first warning. Fallout 76 was a straight up punch in the face. Nuking Fallout London was a kick to the balls. Bugthesda has made it clear how much they hate us all.
Thing is, they could simply use pre-next gen like 95% of PC community does. There is no logical reason to post pone update just because "next gen that doesnt fix or add anything new". There are even automatic steamCMD downgraders for fallout4. Like its not even a big deal

The update is not an excuse at this point. It's not even the first time they use excuses to push the release date back. Hell, the main problem with the update was that it broke FO4SE, and by now that was fixed, so it's even less of an excuse. I called all of this as soon as they made the announcement that they were delaying the mod and I got called a bethesda shill for it lmao. Seems I was right!
I am gonna be totally honest, it’s a free mod, you’re not funding it, they are provided it for free. Wait be patient, they don’t owe you anything, you’re not a customer you haven’t bought anything, you haven’t preordered anything. I get doing this for a big company because you’ve bought something from them. also comparing your channel to there mod studio who has spent years making it is slightly different from you spending about a day on each video. They have a store fair enough but you are spending your money on the products in that store not the game it is separate. The patron fair enough but it isn’t necessary to buy it either, they choose to buy it because they wanted to.
There isn't really a lot of difference besides numbers, since I need to keep producing to maintain that community. The concept of community stewardship doesn't scale with numbers. That being said, the rest of your comment is fine as is. Some people will agree, some people will disagree. I don't mind waiting personally, but many people are getting impatient and the lack of PR isnt helping the atmosphere
Monetarily it may be "free" but what about in other ways. People promoting the mod give you exposure (like wearing a free band shirt). People wanting to help with models, characters and such are giving time and work effort. People (when it releases) playing the mod give playtesting. Believe it or not there are more ways to pay for things than with money. At the same time when you promote your mod as comparable to a AAA title then you have to accept the fact you will get the critism of a AAA title. I personally think the FOLON team is not presenting the professionalism that they claim they are striving for which is causing the backlash. Imagine if rockstar, bethesda or activision did something like that and how outraged the communities would be. Now I'm not saying FOLON is a triple A studio I'm just stating they want to portray themselves as it so they SHOULD accept the feedback they are recieving when they do someting that seems off. Overall FOLON is a "free" mod in the sense of price tag wise but it is still crowdfunded with monetary, time and resource costs that help it develop. Also at the same time just because someone isn't funding something does not mean they cannot have an opinion on said thing/item. Unfortunately when something is public then the public no matter who they are have the right to have opinions. At the end of the day we are consumers of their product once it is release and honestly we are consumers of it before it has been released. I'd even argue we are customers as well as we are paying with time by even giving them the time of day in an entertainment/cultural marketplace of sorts. If nobody plays the mod or it gets bad reviews/is received poorly that can seriously effect their credibility later if they release a full game or more mods later. So they don't owe us anything but treating your community/consumer base is a bad practice overall. Just because you make a mod doesn't mean you are "entitled" to good reviews. Bad PR can ruin anything there is a reason why companies have whole Public Relations Departments.
I can understand the idea of we don't want to mislead players or everyone might not know how to rollback the game however almost every single fallout/elder scrolls game has been able to be rolled back if bought legally. So the "we didn't know if it could be rolled back" is just an excuse. There are whole modlists with thousands of mods that roll back these games for players. I think at the end of the day we are all frustrated with the shitty PR and the people who troll or abuse power. I think the idea of releasing screenshots or something would be good. That being said yes it is a free mod/'game but like you said when you have a community its kind of your responsibility to take care of it because your community makes you. They donate and hype up things for you as well as show their support that gives you drive to keep going and honestly without a community that mod would have been dead in the water. Overall I really enjoy the update video and I hope FOLON is a good mod (Unlike the PR) and is worth the wait.
If things improve I'm 100% happy to make a new update praising their actions. Community Management is a really important role and it isn't enough to just say "we're only interacting with discord" when a massive chunk of communications and fan discussion is performed off-discord. I think FOLON will be fantastic; again I want to separate the contents of this video from the perception of their product. I have absolute faith it'll be a fantastic mod. But in the interim, the PR just ain't great
@@SnailOXD I hope their mod is good too and I feel as it will be good based on what I've seen so far but that doesn't really change the fact that they have bad PR and the idea of "its free" is a farse in my opinion. Its not a "free" mod its just a "free to play" mod.
