The Ganzo Firebird FH71 vs the FH41 Comparison: Both Are Great, But Which Is Better? 

Glad I watched your review on it. I started to get the same spots on my fh41 that I bought recently. I believe its from the oils from my fingers. Super happy to know I can likely just wipe it away easily!

Just picked up an FH41 the other day. I own 5 Ganzos and it's my favorite model so far followed by the FH12. Ganzo continues to impress me with what they offer in their price range.

There are so many excellent folders in that FH series, that it was difficult deciding which one was best for me, and quite a few of them would have made me happy. I finally opted for the FH41, but I could have been equally satisfied with the FH11, the FH 21, or the FH71. The 41 most resembled the Lacónico Keen, and I even had the blade rounded off at the top a la Keen. Love 'em!

The rust you have is crazy I havent had any problems I do oil my knives though but never had any rust issues

Btw...I totally agree with your opinion about the FH series of knives..Im a big fan...and really am enjoying the fact we have atleast one reviewer that can and will give Ganzo a fair shake...I own over a dozen Ganzo knives, ..just got the FH71 last week and doing my own personal review...Im liking every aspect of the knife you do.,.l.however, I do not have any rust issues on any of my chinese d2..yet...and have had most of them over a year...I live in the rainy state of Washington and working around my mini farm, my Ganzos break ice, cut rope, cardboard, tarps, bamboo, zip ties and I rarely wipe them down after unless they are wet...just so you know, because of the respect you give Ganzo, you are now my fav knife reviewer! Great Job!

Thanks JT. A great video. Oh no! I'm beginning to think, that D2 is allergic to *you* ! : - ) Or, your sebum acid, excreted from your sebaceous glands (fingerprint oil). Has mixed with your sweaty lactic and amino acids, to create an acidic D2 killer! You better have that checked out. ; - ) I'm glad to see this one on video, and am happy to have been a part of it.

Blade shape reminds me of a kind of santoku, which I like very much. Just ordered one for 25 euro's.

Both great budget options .I like them , slight preference for the 71 , because of the ramp on the blade .

You mentioned about Chinese D2. That has to be it. I have a Real Steel Archangel and the spine of the blade developed some rust when it was still fairly new with me. By the way, I used to collect the FH series but I got rid of them and just recently, I purchased the two knives you have in this video. The only difference is my 41 has black scales. This lately, I've been collecting their G-Lock knives.

I like the FH41 better barely but give Ganzo credit for stretching their design aesthetic with the FH71. It's darn nice looking. The FH21 is still my favorite from the FH series but barely. I haven't had any rust issues with my Ganzos but have with Artisan D2.

Wooooow!!! That rust is crazy rust build up man lol... I have both these knives and several others mine didn’t do that at all so weird I totally agree about the 71 I think I mentioned this to you before bro but doesn’t the 71 have a brad southardish blade but the 41 is really smooth I carry it all the time. I have both of these, plus the FH51. None have had any rust issues so far. All steels need maintenance but D2 steel shouldn't rust with minimal care. As for comparisons, I thought the FH41 was great until the FH51 came along. The FH71 doesn't seem to know what it is, in my opinion - I'd happily pass it on. I'll keep the FH41 for travelling food prep, and the FH51 for everything else.

How's the detent on these two, can you shake it open? I can on the fh21 I occasionally carry, but it's still one of my favorite ganzos

Also oil from hands should inhibit rust as it keeps moisture and air off the steel

Do you live in the Rain forest? Non of my newer ganzos have any Rust.

Great comparison. I have both of them. I like the 41 slightly better because I modified mine with a finger choil, and dyed my scales. The 41 has a slightly deeper carry because of the lanyard location. I have been giving the 71 more carry time than the 41 lately. The 71's blade shape looks similar to the Kapara, a knife I want to get some day.

Never had a Ganzo, nice designs though.

If you held a rifle by the barrel while you were putting it away, then left it in the gunsafe for a good long time you would have a hand shaped patch of rust on your rifle.

I suggest you put the alcohol away and break out the Aegis corrosion spray ! 😀

Let me stir the pot a wee bit more and suggest that you give the FH21 a try. Altho I don't have the 41 or the 71, I do have the FH11 and the 21 as well as several other Ganzos and, at this moment in time, I'd have to say that the 21 is my favorite Ganzo. In fact, I literally just finished adding a finger choil to it which, for me, only added to it's already good ergos. As for the rust issue, I have never experienced the problem with any of my Ganzos whether it be the 440C or the D2 steel. While there are some really good relatively inexpensive knives out there like the Rats and the Honey Badger, (i own one of each and really like them) as well as others, for the money, Ganzos are really hard to beat. Oh, and the FH41 is on my want list but it's not at the top. Too many knives and not enough money...DAMMIT!!! Merry Christmas to all

You must be doing something I am not to get your Firebirds to rust. I've had my FH-21 for a long time, use it regularly, and there's not a mark on it. I'm usually tickled because D2 is NOT supposed to be in any way stainless but thrives here (Ca) with nary a problem. If you want to learn a bit more about steels, D2 in particular, you might check some of Luvthemknives videos. Using a PMI gun his friend/tester has verified that the Ganzo D2 is indeed D2. While there are tiny, tiny differences depending on who makes it, if its real, its all the same. That said, when it comes to Chinese made knives from even a year ago many came in actually made of 8Cr13Mov which actually has more chromium than D2 so is a little more rust resistant. Just beware of cutting citrus without washing off after. Oh and I think it is called EDCI, a spray on treatment to prevent blades from rusting. You may want to give it a shot.

Never buy a knife with a hole in the blade... it changes the blade strength drastically...

I have the same rust problem in my doom blade but still I dont know is realy D2 stell.. my sanrenmu land(8cr13mov) take rust the same :O I really think that these observations with the thumb are ... taken from the thumb, with such a small knife it does not matter, be honest and stop whipping foam ...
