I think I saw the mythbusters try this and turns out they do, but the bite is so benign you probably won't feel anything, maybe just a small itchy rash. And they really had to startled then to do so, they mostly choose to flee danger rather than fight.
They have fangs & they do bite, but the fang are too short to hurt humans, so the venom won't really penetrate enough into our body to kill us. Unless some a-hole extract their venom, put it in a syringe, then inject it into someone.
@@AstradTheCynic before I read the comment section after hearing that " I googled it and I came across that MythBusters episode and I watched it till the end. They were intentionally trying to make that daddy long legs bite and they had to try hard and all it did was cause a burning sensation that lasted seven seconds. That episode proves that daddy long legs are not poisonous but it doesn't prove that they bite on the contrary it kind of proves that they don't bite. If you have to try to make an insect bite you it doesn't bite if you have to try for half of a half hour episode with commercials to get an insect to bite you it doesn't bite
@@starrchild254 crane flies are totally different things. They fly, and spiders don't. Crane flies are crane flies, i.e. insects. Daddy long legs are spiders, totally different genus.

You should listen to his podcast with Steve and Karl if you haven't already. Not only is it hilarious, I've actually learned a lot from it. Not from Karl, if you can believe that.
In case anyone's confused about the bit about it flying and bumping into stuff, there are three different bugs known, depending on the place, as daddy longlegs. The one he's referring to is the crane fly, also known to some as the mosquito hawk. The other two are arachnids: the harvestmen and the cellar spiders.
@@planexshifterNo, not true. Harvestman have a small and indistinguishable connection between their cephalothorax and abdomen, unlike the Cellar Spider. They also do not produce silk and therefore cannot produce web!
I've been bitten by a Daddy Longlegs and it was a light sting. I couldn't believe my eyes as I let it continue to bite me. Maybe ours are different in Australia where just about everything tries to kill you.. lol
A common misconception about these spiders, which aren't actually spiders either. They do have teeth, 0.25mm in length. There was a very good Mythbusters episode about them as well, where it was proven they can bite humans, will bite humans if threatened enough but the venom is not dangerous to humans.
It's more of an urban legend than a myth or misconception, really -- one of those things that seems totally believable as a kid but every adult should have figured out on their own that it was always a ridiculous assertion that they're a particularly venomous spider but incapable of biting -- although I guess if you *_are_* a theist it could make more sense, "maybe God was just screwing around that day".
@@rozza105 you obviously took offense to it. "Grow up".... Isn't that a little IRONIC???? I usually identify as a nerd myself(Language and card magic) so I see no negativity in the word NERD. If you feel like it's offensive, maybe that's because you've used it offensively🤷♂️

Ricky, Ricky, everything you share has a bloody brilliant point - I love it, I love you Ricky, we should have more people like you in this horrible world!
You have to admit that young men who reach the age of thirty without ever having a girlfriend or who haven't been in any relationships with women will always be subject to the scandalous whisperings about their sexuality by people who know them, especially if the person in question spends a good deal of their time traveling around with twelve young men, sometimes it's fair comment and at other times it's just gossip. Now how old was Jesus at the time they hung him up on a crucifixion cross?
@@MysticDawnASMR The question is all about the period from puberty up until he was executed for his crimes, maybe I'm a gossip but it sure is suspicious.
He's making the mistake combining two different creatures that share a common name in some parts of the world. The "daddy longlegs" with the venom is a harvestman (a type of arachnid, but not a spider) and it cannot fly. The "daddy longlegs" that can fly is the cranefly (Tipulidae family, the true flies), and it has no venom at all. He's merging the two creatures.
Except Opiliones (harvestman) don't have venom. There's actually a third kind you english fellas call daddy longlegs : the Pholcus, or skull spider. This one actually is a spider, but its venom is pretty weak to humans, and it almost never bites us anyway.
Look what he started. Threw the grenade. Boom. Harvestman v daddy long legs ; venom or no. I was told by a food scientist once that if daddy longs legs had teeth they could eat the world. Remember the hollywood glitterati at the 2020 golden globes. Gervais a fn genius. If he says it's got venom it's got venom.
I.. always thought this Daddy Long Legs thing is an internet thing, I didn't know that actual normal people call them that... English is.. an interesting language..
Actually it's a misconception that the daddy long legs has the strongest poison to man, the legend probably comes from the fact that daddy long legs can kill spiders that are deadly to humans such as the redback , so the assumption is that if the daddy long legs can kill spiders with venom so deadly to humans it must have the deadliest venom. But the daddy long legs can kill those spiders because it can cast long stretches of silk onto it's pray from a safe distance thus incapacitating it's pray. A little bit of knowledge for all of you.
Yes and white tails kill redbacks too. Actually - a lot of spiders can. I know this because I keep them as pets and have been so mad when my redbacks are killed by the spiders I put in for food 😂😭😭
The daddy longlegs he’s referring to is a crane fly. That’s what we call them in the U.K. Still no venom but I know in some countries a daddy longlegs is a spider.
Starfish do have brains, they just arent centralized, their "brain" is distributed throughout the body, thats one of the reasons why if a starfishes leg gets cut off, both halves will fully grow and you end up with 2 starfish
I like daddy long legs, my sisters absolutely terrified of them, once of them landed on her face when she was asleep she woke up, it flew off and she screamed like she just saw someone getting murdered no just a daddy long legs bouncing against the window and she was crying loudly saying “KILL IT GET IT OUT 😭 “ 😂 🤣
www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fevo.2019.00256/full So The daddy long-legs spider is venemous, but the daddy longlegs cranefly is not. Figured i'd clear that up since just "daddy long-legs" is a name for multiple creatures.
The whole thing about the Daddy Long Legs being poison is a myth. There are two types of animals called by that name; one has no fangs and no venom, the other has fangs, but there is no record of it ever having bitten a human, so there is no information on any potential toxicity. Still a hilarious bit...
@@scottyd2262 If you have, please report it to the international academy of science along with absolute proof, because you would the first human in history to ever have been bitten by one.
You think If it was true, they wouldn't have taken the venom out and infected into some blood or DNA to see what happens? They don't wait for a snake to bite before they create a anti venom lol
@@esquilax5563 He didn't say he "got a mild insect bite." First off, spiders are not insects. He claims to have been bitten by what many people claim is the "most venomous spider in the world," for which he might need antivenom treatments; any doctor or hospital would need to report it and to verify it. And if you are bitten by an unknown spider, it's prudent to get treatment, not wait around to see if it's going to kill you. Read a little... hundreds of people each year in the US claim to have been bitten by Brown Recluse spiders in areas that are hundreds of miles out of the natural range of that animal. Every authority in the chain of treatment and verification advises people to try and catch or photograph the animal that bit you. That's how science works.
Lots of daddy longlegs posts. To avoid confusion he’s talking about crane flies. As a Brit that’s what we call them. Not referring to harvestmen or cellar spiders. Still a myth about the venom.
Man is talking about the long legged crane fly, what with all the bouncing around and almost flying. Usually daddy longlegs refers to harvestmen. I don't think any of them are actually venomous though, at least not enough to be even noticed or harmful.
The fact of daddy long leg is that it's call a harvest men and they do not have poison sacs no poison at all and they don't have Fangs they have pulpers and they are not spiders.
He’s not talking about harvestmen, which as you say isn’t a spider. Though there is a spider some call a daddy longlegs. But as a Brit a daddy longlegs is a crane fly. That’s what we call them. Still a myth about the venom.
Well first. Daddy long legs are not poisonous, they are venemous. Yes there is a difference. Second they do not have anywhere even remotely close to the most toxic venom in the world, and third, they do have fangs, and they can puncture human skin. So every single statement made about daddy long legs in this video was untrue.
I've already posted this but you are right Actually it's a misconception that the daddy long legs has the strongest poison to man, the legend probably comes from the fact that daddy long legs can kill spiders that are deadly to humans such as the redback , so the assumption is that if the daddy long legs can kill spiders with venom so deadly to humans it must have the deadliest venom. @@iseriver3982 because Ricky knows that god is a myth, god being a myth was kinda the punchline of the joke while the daddy long leg part wasn't a joke or punchline.
I love his comedy, but I hate this dumb myth about daddy long legs. I get it, I grew up believing that too. Then I learned more about them as an adult when I became a homeschooling teacher. 1-Daddy long legs, aka harvestmen, aren't even spiders, they are in the order of Opiliones. They have one body segment (not 2 like spiders), no venom glands, no fangs, and no silk glands. So, they are NOT the MOST venomous spider who can't bite...they aren't venomous nor a spider! 2-Daddy long legs, aka cellar spiders (Araneae) ARE spiders w/fangs & venom, and they can bite. But but it is very rare for them to do so and their venom is generally considered weak to humans. 🕷💜
The daddy longlegs he’s talking about are crane flies. That’s what they’re called in the U.K. Not talking about a spider. The venom thing is still a myth though.
The venom of daddy long legs is, by far, not the most venomous. It’s just false. It got tested on the program ‘Mythbusters’. And it’s simply a myth. It hunts spiders, so people thought it had the most venomous bite.
