The pay gap between men and women is not due to discrimination, but due to many other factors.
According to Claudia Goldin, Nobel Prize winner in Economics in 2023, for her research on the gender gap, when men and women begin their lives as workers, they earn similar amounts, but as life progresses, we begging to see a difference. The difference becomes noticeable at the time when a couple decides to have a baby. At that time women’s salary income decelerates, while men’s salary income continues increasing or they get a paternal premium. The reason is that highest paid professions are what it’s called “Greedy jobs” jobs that demand 100 hours a week.
Her research has shed light on the various stages of women’s participation in the workforce and the impact of education, family, and public policy on their economic opportunities. Goldin’s contributions have provided valuable insights into the persistent inequalities in the labor market and have informed policies aimed at promoting gender equality.
Greedy work can be defined as a job that pays disproportionately more on a per-hour basis when someone works a greater number of hours or has less control over those hours. It could be a rush job, a demanding client who calls at 11 PM, or a supervisor who asks that the worker give up a vacation day for the project. The firm has deemed the additional payment worth it to have the work done over more hours, at a particular time, or during odd hours.
As soon as they have a child, they realize that having both parents working 100-hour jobs is unsustainable for the family. They make the decision that one partner will work at the greedy job and the other partner will either stop working or work at a job with more flexible hours.
In the next video, we have Jordan Peterson explaining that in Scandinavian countries, who have moved more towards gender equality than any other set of countries in the world, women have chosen the careers that are more in accordance with their gender.
And finally, we have entrepreneur Maya Milusheva
Here is entrepreneur Maya Milusheva, a women in tech, explaining why she prefers to work with men rather than with women. Among other things, when a programming problem arrives, men are willing to stay at work all night until the problem is fixed, while women, they want to go home regardless.
Maya Milusheva from Plushie Games made a very passionate claim against the topic women in tech. It went like this:
I am a woman
I am a good developer
I am a mother
I am a CEO of a successful IT company
when I hire I want the best people for my company and they are men
women simply don’t have the required tech skills/level of expertise
the whole talk about women in open source/diversity is bullshit
girls need to sit down on their asses and read more, code more, etc.
Minute 35
All that to say that there is no pay gap. Women and men get paid exactly the same for the same job. The gap is based on the kind of jobs that men and women choose
Men just choose to work in industries that pay more, men are willing to work longer hours, men are willing to work in more dangerous jobs, men are more likely to move, Men are more likely to work outside, they are more likely to work in the STEM fields which can be scaled, and that’s all hidden under the idea that the reason why they earn more is because of their gender.
So my conclusion after watching these experts talk is that there no gender gap, men just choose to work in industries that pay more, men are willing to work longer hours,
men are willing to work in more dangerous jobs,
men are more likely to move,
men are more likely to work outside,
they are more likely to work in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields which can be scaled, and that’s all hidden under the idea that the reason why they earn more is because of their gender.
