What is a general purpose rifle or GPR? Well that depends on how the end user defines it. Some folks have a purpose and some people just use the name because it sounds cool. This could also be someone’s special purpose rifle, jack of all trades rifle, or do all rifle.
My rifle is a Mitchell Defense GWOT Doc and it competes or excels past the Geissele Super Duty, DDM4 Ris 3 from Daniel Defense and more so beats out a BCM Recce Rifle or SOLGW M4-89. There is nothing this rifle can’t do and it does everything well with the exception of being short like a 12 inch SBR such as the MK18.

Yes I clean it after every 3-400 rounds. the BCG has a nice coating which sheds grime and the rifle is gassed well so it doesn’t bounce shell casings off it like a racquet ball.

Rifle is spec'd with a Ballistic Advantage Hanson profile barrel, which is a phenomenal barrel. Billet receiver set + Hanson barrel = an accurate rifle.

I found a Ruger Ar for 1200 with a proof research carbon fiber wrapped barrel and the damn barrel cost almost as much as I paid for the whole thing and it is amazingly accurate

Like you, I use and teach first responders to use carbines professionally. For years, my main training rifle has been a Noveske N4 set up to mirror my work gun. I recently purchased a SOLGW Press Check and set it up with an LPVO as a GP rifle. It has all the attributes you mentioned with this rifle. I took it to a 3 day fighting rifle class and it’s everything I could ever ask for. Training is key!

Training is really the key! It’s not all the fancy stuff but if you are training a lot and using your tools for work, you need better stuff. That Press Check consulting SOLGW is really nice! Great choice! 💪

Yeah and that SOLGW has a chrome lined barrel. Those Criterion Core barrels are pretty accurate.

What’s better about this for a GPR than the SOLGW you say is the best duty rifle?

This is a more accurate and softer shooting rifle. For me I can shoot it faster and more accurately. The SOLGW I had was a 13.7 Pinned and welded so shorter, and gassed heavier. This rifle rivals that and I really would pick this over that rifle now.

Great GPR, however my only gripe is the 416r barrel. They don’t hold up over thousands of round counts like a 4150 chrome lined or a CHF barrel.

I think the very best you can get for 500 bucks is the Vortex Viper 1-6, it will likely be exactly 500, a lot of great used deals on the web for them too. The Vortex Venom 1-6 is good as well. Next i recommend the Primary Arms 1-6 with the ACss Nova reticle. If you want a 1-10 for that price, the Primary Arms Slx 1-10 is perfect

I personally do not think so because a new barrel if needed is 300 bucks for a really good one, also Mitchell Defense will replace the barrel if you shoot it out or wear it out.

That’s right! This 416R barrel and gun is super accurate and I have about 3k rounds through it of heavy fire, to slow And no degradation in accuracy!

@@HuntFishShootChannel And most of us aren't going to shoot a stainless barrel enough to get to accuracy degradation so I only use 416r stainless barrels now to get the extra accuracy because you can still run them hard as hell for a few days of training and not hurt anything

@@HuntFishShootChannel I know DD will replace the barrel, for life, free of charge. I read the 416r barrels are good for 4k-5k rounds. Is that true? I run that in less than 6 months so that’d be a cause for concern to me.

@Watchdog_UFOtestpilot no you will get way more rounds than 4-5k. It’s dependent on barrel steel quality and who makes it. At around 10k you will start to see group size increase and at 20k group size will be about what you see from a brand new mil spec gun. Degradation will depend on firing schedule. This rifle for instance has about 3800 rounds on it and still shoots and performs like new. A lot of factors play into it, barrel quality for the 416R and who made it is number 1.

.308 > 5.56. Change my mind. 😂 We are talking GP rifle after all, as in “do-it-all”, correct? Additionally, I’ll take the Pepsi challenge with my DD5v3 on the sub-MOA statement, all day. If money is no object, KAC SR25 is great. LaRue PredatOBR 7.62 is great. FN SCAR 17 is decent, but not as cool as it was in video games. HKMR762 isn’t worth the $4k butt nekkid IMO, and I’m around $7k all-in on my DD so I’m not afraid to drop the cash.

If you haven’t try a 3.5 Acog you will never run a LPVO again, I had a Vortex PST Gen 2 and Got to use a few night force optics on rental guns, First 3.5 Acog I used I went home and listed my LPVO’s for sale and ordered an Acog.

Almost any 416R stainless steel barreled rifle is going to be more accurate than cold hammer forged (CHF) and chrome lined barrels. But if I were going to get this rifle for a SHTF I would opt for the CHF as it's going to have a much longer life cycle. I don't think this gun is more accurate just because it's a Mitchell Defense only, but because this particular sample is rocking a 416R barrel. So, that kind of is an apples to oranges comparison when talking about the accuracy of other makes that use CHF barrels.

Not quite, there is more that goes into it. You can’t just slap a 416R barrel into any rifle and it be accurate, just like some make very accurate rifles using CHF barrels and others do not.

These days a quality rifle is going to cost you around $2000 dollars and I wouldn't recommend some no name company. It's hard to recommend to new shooters spend their hard earned money on something I don't even know about. Stick with DDM, BCM, Colt, FN. old school works even down to the light it's always going to be a surefire . And money doesn't always buy you the best but buy once cry once. ask yourself how important your 2nd amendment is .

Accuracy is great. But like you said, with Plx-c it's not as precision oriented. So why not have a chrome lined barrel? Generally speaking 416R stainless steel will have throat erosion at a much higher rate. Initial accuracy may be better. But longterm it wont. With that said. If you have the money to burn down a barrel. You have the money to replace it. CHF is just a easier way of making a barrel. It's over hyped. I've seen no empirical evidence to show that they are more durable than a button cut rifled barrel. Hand lapped barrels tend to last longer than non. And there is chrome lining processes that are way better now. Criterion, Hodge, Green Mountain and Sionics flake chrome line the barrels. And that takes away the imperfections that hampered the accuracy of chrome lined barrels. I'm not going to diss your choice. A well made rifle is a well made rifle. I used to use a M16A4 in a professional. Shot some 2 gun and have been to a plethora carbine courses. And some precision carbine. And been to a few armorers courses. I ran a impromptu precision course of fire with a friend and a bunch of his friends. With a Colt 6920 Trooper and GLx 1-6. I smoked all of them. Running 77gr PPU. Schmid two stage. Maybe $1,500 in total. And did again but worse on them with a a Sionics rifle and a 1-8 PLx-c Griffen. Maybe $2,500 invested. Those guys were running high end Noveske and Geissele rifles with ATACR's and Gen 3 Vortex LPVO's. They were talking mad sh*t on my Colt. One guy was visibly upset with me on both occasions. He talked the most shit in the beginning. He had $5,500 roughly invested in his Noveske. It's a point of pride for some people. More so than the skill to use these things.

So many people put so much pride into their weapon system, which is good. But the skill set lacks and it shows the minute you put them on the line. Personally I wish people invested more in training and less on their guns. There are better barrels than this one, I agree but I have found for me, the price of this rifle and what it has, is a good middle ground. Will erosion happen faster? Sure, but with Mitchell defense if that occurs, they will Replace the barrel for free and appreciate a shooter who shot that much. For the price and performance, this rifle out of all the ones I have used, has performed at the top or one of the best. I’ll never dispute that there are “better” rifles, or even rifles which are more durable in a time sense, but it’s hard to beat the out of the box performance and shootability of it! 416r will hold it accuracy very tight until it dies. There really isn't any slow degradation when it goes it goes fast. The benefit is it will go 15 to 20k depending on the manufacture, which is a good number of rounds, all while being very accurate. In my personal experience I'd take the accuracy for that many rounds then just replace the barrel.

"Sub MOA with everything I put through it" means you put nothing through it other than premium match grade ammo. I do get sub MOA out of it with Hornady Frontier 55 grain XM193, aka cheap ammo. Federal XM193 shoots 1 inch groups as well. Just be you don’t believe it, doesn’t make me a shill. Nothing about this video is a complete shill. Better yet, I’ll happily tell people there are great rifles in the same price range that may even have better options for what an individual wants. thank you for risking your life to protect our freedoms but it’s not necessary to state your accomplishments to disprove groups on a target. A specific disclaimer was made before those were shot on target.
