John Moses Browning's father was Jonathan Browning, who was originally from Tennessee, and was a gunsmith. One may visit the restored (to its original condition) shop of Jonathan Browning each summer in Nauvoo, Illinois. John Moses learned a lot from his father.
A lot of people don't know that. I visited there when they were restoring the house in the 70s. I grew up in Morgan, Utah, so seeing that particular house was important for me. His father made some interesting guns - several that failed in the sales realm, but had parts and mechanisms that were used on later guns. There is a Browning museum in Ogden, Utah in the old train station - also worth a visit.
Was talking to my buddy Joe on the phone the other night and he turned me on to your channel, and he was correct in the fact that you definitely have the gift of gab necessary to be as comfortable in front of the camera as you are !....Nice job on the vids and i'll add you on my recommended channels list on my channel, hopefully it helps you get noticed.
Everyone forgets his brother Edward, he was a top notch gunsmith who worked the bugs out of John’s designs, but didn’t get credit because everyone has on blinders…
Wow, these are some great old guns. I have a beat up old parkerized series 80, but it shoots great and I love it. Able to be completely disassembled with no tools, only a cartridge. Browning was an effin' genius.
Well I made it to Episode 10 and I have to say, thank you for the education on 1911's. That was a great episode and I will be telling my buddies about it. Oh ya, Joesneon sent me. Now time to move on to the next episode.
Came to your channel from Joesneon. I've watched all the videos and enjoyed them very much. Joe was not exaggerating about how good your channel is. I particularly liked this video. Looking forward to the next one. Subscribed
His M2 Ma Duce saved my ass and my entire squads countless times in firefights in Ramadi Iraq. God Bless you John Moses, wherever you are! I owe you a beer when I get to meet ya.
The third one was a custom bowling pin gun. The second one is an A1 frame with an original 1911 slide. Another change on the A1 was the cocking serrations were angled.
You put out some fantastic information! I love old guns, although I have not yet had the opportunity to shoot a 1911 I hope to get my hands on one someday.
Actually during the Indian Wars the first cartridge type of pistol was the Colt SSA in the 45 LC and was used in many of the Old West movies like Gunsmoke, and many others.
Amen, brother. It's always been my pistol. If you want to argue that there are other pistols that are better, I can only say, "Fine, but the 1911 is good a fuckin' 'nuff."
The second gun you showed was probably a transition piece - meaning it had the 1911A1 modifications but with a 1911 slide. That's why the slide says "Model of 1911"
Enjoyed all of your videos and subscribed at least! Good job on explaining! Thank you for sharing. Greetings from berlin germany. ....Joe send me over.
I’m certainly in a very small minority, but I think that those1911s are Colts isn’t important. We should call all 1911s Browning 1911s, or some such term. Browning hitched his wagon to Colt to get his masterpiece built and accepted by the US Army. Similarly, JMB’s wonderful design could have put any firearms manufacturer in a leadership position. Unfortunately, Colt was the only going concern that was able to manufacture the firearm. Serendipity for both. Today, many shooters think Colt is the only game in town. However, Springfield, Kimber, Nighthawk, Wilson Combat, plus many others will give Colt firearms a good run for their money. I have a Colt 1911A1. Other than it’s history, it isn’t anything special. Poor sights, poor trigger on a former combat weapon, that it.
Do any of you know of anything designed app. 100 yag that technology has not improved.Waiting list still on many custom 1911s.I believe Browning, as far as simplicity of function and design has no match in any area. What exist today and is still considered top of the line in design?
jmb would laugh @ "genius" (though we won't); it was just common sense to him lol also, pistol #1, the ww1 1911 with the diamond checkered grip & 2 tone mags is just SEXY
Hi there how Ya'll are Joesneon sent me over. i have watched every one of your videos. I subbed your channel and will send my subs your way also. you have a great channel I Love Antiques but don't have the money to buy any .:-( Have a great evening my friend

If John Browning made the 1911, carroll shelby invented the mustang. Look up the story, he took 9 years to make just a few tweaks from the Colt 1900. It wasn't his fault really but he added a few things, he did not sit down with a blank page and design it.
Actually JMB did sit down and design and invent the 1911.... And the 1900, the 1902 sporting and military, the 1903 hammerless, the 1903 hammer, the 1905, the 1908 vest pocket, and every version in-between such as the versions produced by FN and Husqvarna. He even designed the Hipower. So I'm not sure what story you're talking about, but those are the facts.
