The chinoiserie room, done around 1750. It gives one pause to consider the artistic and intellectual and craftsmanship level of the past compared with the present day. Am I becoming a grumpy old man? If you can, check out the room that Carolyn Roehm created in Charleston. She used elements from Claydon House, made by a carver she found in England. It's on the "Quintessence" channel on RU-vid.

He was definitely a successful builder. Wealth is a relative term, not as wealthy as his clients but well off. Upper middle class in our terms today.
