In the north of Scotland, at the village of Gairloch. There lives a lone faerie, one who was exiled from the faerie court and abandoned in the forest. The tale of Ghillie Dhu. On one warm afternoon in mid-summer, a young girl Jessie Macrae went wandering in the nearby forest. She spent many hours adventuring and exploring the trees, but when evening fell, she realised that she had lost her way. Fear began to descend upon the poor girl as she attempted to fiind her way through the forest. An hour later tired, hungry and footsore, she sat beneath a large fir tree and began to weep. Suddenly from behind the tree a calm and reasted voice said, “Why do you cry, girl”. She jumped at the sound and looked round to see a strange elven like creature standing before her. The creature had long hair black as a raven’s wing and hazel brown eyes, jessie described as soft and kindly. With the creatures’ strange smile, she could see it had hundreds of small sharp teeth. If jessie had seen the Sith at a distance she would have ran screaming, but now up close she could tell there was no malice in the creature’s heart. The Sith wore a great cloak of moss and leaves, he bore such a resemblance to his background that jessie thought he may be the very manifestation of the forest its self.

my house is on the border of a birch forest and was built in victorian times, its name is "ghillie dhu's gate" and has a legend that every time a child goes missing you can see ghillie dhu wandering the woods looking for the lost child

I love this video. The two sides of the Ghillie Dhu’s personality remind me of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Willow Man in the Old Forest that drags people down with its roots and Treebeard and Fangorn who helps Merry and Pippin. I bet that’s where he got his inspiration.

My Father's Mother's family were some of those first Lovet Scouts from the Highland Clan Fraser, arguably the first Special Operations Forces. Ghillie Dhu is now my favorite Sidhe I think, he should be the Patron Sidhe of Search and Rescue teams.

This is how they want you to think??? They want you to think we don’t deserve any thing we are so barbaric and childish that we need our one world overlords to tell us what to do and how to think this is what the Pictish people fought against all those years ago they fought and died to keep our well deserved relationship with nature we belong outside we belong with nature and both nature and us deserve it

The Fells have a similar spirit, an owld fella, often with his old Collie who has 'Allus been heeyah mind, since ah wer la'al...' He's taken many a walker and climber to rescuers or safety 'See't thon liight? Ga on terward it n mind thi step asseh, else the'll slip ower and hev a mischief...' I guess everywhere still has that connection to the other realms.

Funny. I had a dream where this spirit creature much like this Ghillie Dhu spirit came to my dreams a few years back instructing me to make a outfit made from animal hide then make a mask made from wood in the shape of a wolf skull then to add the antlers of a stag. I was instructed to do this then go out into the forest and stay for one week. Now here I am learning about this creature. I wonder why it came to me in my dreams.
@GenerationX1984
@GenerationX1984 Год назад
When something comes to you in a dream, you're supposed to follow its instructions. Native American cultures know this too when they go on dream vision quests. We seem to have lost this custom in modern times. I would suggest doing what the spirit in the dream says and see what happens.

Some random info: During the Second Boer War the Scottish took to wearing leather aprons to cover their kilts before someone thought of camouflage, because the Boers would take pot-shots at the Highlanders in their bright kilts, as they were standing out like beacons. (Whomever thought it a good idea to send brightly clad men into a war zone must not have had their brain switched on.)

As a rural child in 1970's Scotland I thought all spirits where female as the family, who where by todays standards very superstitious and former travellers refer to them as She it was only when I asked my aunties if there where boy faeries that they realised I spoke no Gaelic. Sadly none from my generation where taught it, but I elders spoke it frequently as well as what you'd refer today as romany...deals where always done in the old language.

@Liath Wolf I am not sure if you will believe me good sir. I'm American and I have been raised by many spirits namely the Sidhe or Sìth however you spell it. Despite being baptized by my mother and what not I still got called a Demon by many Christians despite I don't burn in Church or Holy Water or Frankenescence. Growing up I have always seen spirits and I was even taught Wicca 101. We had a "Meet your Deity" day and it was a group meditation thing. It was a Tuesday in 2016 and my game not got canceled as always for Wicca 101 but this time by a Tornado in my Gamemaster's home town so I knew this Wicca 101 class was important. I got to meet my Faery mother who took me from the group and brought me to Avalon where I have a home there and house. I also got to meet my Faery sister. Many do not believe me at first but I am the daughter of Queen Titania and King Oberon. I am also the sister of Queen Mebd. The Seelie and Unseelie Courts I can traverse both and my own. I went to a Scottish Highland Games here in Washington state and found I am part of clan MacLennan but they don't seem to like me because of my Faerie aura and that I am also a witch by birth. I want to go to Scotland and Ireland and connect with the spirits there and help heal the land. Every human who has ever hurt me either by rape or abuse or gossip has had horrible things happen to them that I might find out later. Some work with angels some with darker spirits but they have a different energy than say Dragons or Angels or Demons or such just many humans cannot differentiate. This video...I got to meet the spirit from this video. He pulled me aside and listened to this video. He is very similar to the artwork depicting him.
