Halloween may be over, but the scares continue as we creep through a spooky old house in 'The Ghost and Mr. Chicken'
In Seen It, we discuss the royalty of Tenenbaums, the velocity of Lola and the pros and cons of being Hardboiled, in another edition of 'Seen It, Own It"
All film footage is used in accordance with fair use and US copyright law. All music in the show is used with full permission of the composer.
Thanks for all the great comments. Keep em coming! If you watch one of the movies we discuss, let us know what you thought of it.
Welcome To The Basement" is a show about watching, discussing and having fun with movies. Matt choses the movie and Craig doesn't know what it is until the cameras start rolling, so none of the discussion or riffing is planned ahead of time.
Movie announced on facebook before every new episode. Get the movie and follow along. We do discuss the entire movie, including the ending, so if you want to avoid spoilers, watch the movie first.

Aaagh, this is one of my favorite movies ever! "ATTA BOY, LUTHER!"

Don Knotts is basically how I'd describe my anxiety. It's like having him for an amygdala: one thing goes wrong and it just goes wild.

I actually got to play a part (bookstore owner) in Mark Borchardt's latest unfinished film "Scare Me". It was quite the experience. He threw out all of the lines I had memorized and gave me new ones which I just ended up improvising. Hope the movie comes out eventually. --Aaron

Don Knotts was a genius. He was 'behind' his time, he was a vaudeville man in a post-vaudeville world, but he made it work for DECADES. So good to see him featured.

Your wrong about not remembering this film 3 days later. I first saw it when I was very young and even now can quote a lot of the dialogue. I love it and have passed that on to my children, and they have passed it on to theirs. Its a fun family classic. "TARO KARO SOLOMON!"

One of my favorite movies. Don Knott's is tops in my book. Another great movie he did is the Reluctant Astronaut, I was a little kid when I first watched his movies and have loved them ever since.

I'm so happy to hear Craig discuss 'Risky Business' in the cold open. This is a movie that DESPERATELY needs a critical re-evaluation. It doesn't get the praise it deserves. If Matt hasn't seen it, you should definitely watch it on WTTB.

I saw this movie recently with my step-dad and my 10 year old brother, and we were all laughing the entire time. Even though it doesn't feature a whole lot of "ghosts or the haunted house," it adds comedy in every scene that's clever and funny.

Hey there guys, longtime fan here! Today I saw a film that seems to be burned onto the back of my eyelids, I can't escape it. It's an Australian movie called "Candy" with Heath Ledger and many other Aussie actors. It was simply gorgeous. I have to recommend it for the show (if you haven't seen it,) because it seems like the kind of movie you guys could really discuss. Thanks for brightening my days with your show. :)

Even when I first saw this as a kid I thought it should have just been a Don Knotts "haunted house" movie. Imagine Don Knotts having to face off against a demon or something. Have him fumbling through Necronomicon pages trying to open a portal to hell.

Craig you want more Don Knotts running around in a haunted house , have I ever got the film for you ! The Private Eyes. There is no dog, but a lot more haunted house shenanigans. I have not seen it in about 25 years. but I remember watching it incessantly until my parents told me the video store had "misplaced " the film. By misplaced I mean mom paid the clerk to tell me the movie was missing every time I tried to rent it.

Best gift Matt ever gave ^^^^ I would slightly disagree about Don Knotts not having a good range. There's a lot of Andy Griffith Show episodes where he gives the character emotional depth you don't expect. The episode where he comes back to town and finds out Thelma Lou got married to someone else is heartbreaking

I tend to be a completist, even with movies I don't enjoy, and could probably count on one hand the number of films that I have started watching and not finished. American Movie is number one on that list. I also assumed it was a mockumentary, but slowly realized it had to be real. The movie me so uncomfortable, along with his pronunciation of "coven", that I just had to stop, and in 10 years have never felt an urge to go back and finish it.

Don Knotts was great in this. Movies of this period were fun, not filled with blood and gore. You can sit back and enjoy it and not have to unravel some convoluted plot or have a heart attack cause something just jumped out at you.
@stormcloudsabound
@stormcloudsabound 7 лет назад
Well, the horror is obviously a pretense in this film - it's comedy, not horror. Horror's a whole other genre, though there's some crossover. Enough of that whole "movies of this period were fun" thing, you're assuming blood and gore are inherently bad. Overdone, that gets a bit tedious, but I'd much rather be a bit scared or shocked by something (not overly so, again) than be mildly amused. That being said, this movie is pretty funny. It's not horror, though.
