The original novelization of Ghostbusters had a lot of weird and interesting extra bits with also deleted scenes and older script draft elements in it!

also i love the other girls being all "get out! out! i'll scream!" all flustered and frustrated and then Ripley is just "get. out." and he shuffles off before she can get her flamethrower.

So we got extra horniness, character growth, Egon and his Snacking addiction, curse words being removed and added, original rough cut scenes being added, Peter being an extra jerk, people are extra angry when they get mad. Sounds like a good time for a Book based on a movie.

I collect Ghostbusters merchandise and I have a lot of stuff. I even have an empty can of Heinz Pasta of The Real Ghostbusters from the 1990s. I'm going to wait a little while until I sell it. I love the idea that Janine created the logo. It makes a lot of sense to me. Like she suggested it as a dismissive joke when Ray went to interview her for the job, but he took it as a serious suggestion. I can't imagine either Egon or Peter being that bothered about a logo at all.

It's nice when the novelization is a bit different than the film it's based on. Much like BTTF novel. They can write in some deleted scenes, ideas that were good but were either too hard to film/didn't work pace wise, and adding characters that had to be cut.

It’s not just novelizations. Some Kindle editions of books are scanned from a print edition, then not proofread at all. I got a Kindle version of the usual Penguin Books paperback edition of The City of God by St. Augustine. I always enjoy novelizations that are based on early drafts and scripts. The Back to the Future novelization by George Gipe is a favorite of mine. The original ending with the DeLorean driving to a nuclear bomb test site is bookended brilliantly with the original book opening of Marty, already in school and in class where a film of the bomb test from 1955 is being shown to the class. There's a lot of odd changes and I find it interesting that the description of Marty in the book as the outfit that Eric Stoltz is wearing in his performance of Marty, including a US Patent Office T-shirt with an electric guitar on it and green sneakers.

Novelizations of movies are fascinating in that they’re kind of like world building! I’ve also read novelizations of other 80’s films like ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Clash of the Titans’; and they really do have the luxury of expanding on characters and settings more than a movie is allowed to within so much time given.

I agree novelizations are interesting. Take for example the Dragon Ball Super: Broly light novel which reveals Broly achieved his Super Saiyan form not due to rage but intense sorrow over Paragus' death. I personally like the idea as losing someone can make one feel a variety of emotions as I imagine Krillin's death made Goku feel other emotions besides intense rage (guilt over failing to finish Frieza off & sorrow over losing his best friend & not having a way to resurrect him as Krillin had already died once before & the Namekian Dragon Balls were a no go at the time)! One could argue that Kale achieved her LSSJ form due to her intense jealousy brought on by her fear of abandonment. Sure it may seem counterintuitive to make a light novelization of a Dragon Ball film, but I think it can be interesting & besides anything that might get a person to read is a plus! Nice to hear that they hired Ricard Mueller to work as a writer on the Real Ghostbusters cause he did the novelization of the films, as its good to have writers already familiar with the characters & setting. Also, the fact he gave Janine credit for the NO GHOST LOGO is a good call as far as I am concerned!

Ahha, so I was right all along! Ray's ghost BJ was a wet dream all along! As a kid, that scene thankfully went over my head, though I always felt it was a weird dream Ray was having & as an adult I could always accept Ray might have a ghost fetish (consciously or subconsciously) & that it was just a wet dream resulting from said fetish. My other theory was that Ray had an interaction with a SUCCUBUS as its a supernatural entity (demon) that preys on men sometimes in their dreams. Personally, I think it works best as a dream sequence rather than something that actually happened! Still, the writer could have gone with the SUCCUBUS angle as some versions depict them as invading the dreams of men! I assume it was meant to be a dream in the script, or that is how the writer interpreted the scene!

I always thought the bums would be stand-ins for eventually having Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy reprise their roles as Mortimer and Randolph Duke from Trading Places (which had Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy), since they had also appeared as them as bums in Coming to America (which also had Eddie Murphy).

Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy would have been hilarious as the bums, particularly when one of them starts referencing Chuck Wepner.

Cool. I hope this new series continues, and you eventually review the Resident Evil novel series by S.D. Perry.

The novelizations of the Raimi Spiderman trilogy were excellent. They fleshed out the stories and added a lot to plot of the movies.

If you think that was wild, just wait til you get your hands on "Ghostbusters: The Return" by Sholly Fisch, which was kind of considered the unofficial GB3 before the newer films came out. It's quite a ride.

@@phelous Damn YT! I rarely get notifications, although following you for years now and hitting the bell icon every time... even twice! :p Just for you, I will go back to the good old days, make an entry in Google Calendar to remind me and then I check manually from now on! And yes, I will do this! :) Greetings from Germany and have a great new year! ;)

Seeing the storyboard and then seeing the novelization, I for one would've loved to have seen ghosts of The Three Stooges appear in the Ghostbusters film, lol.

my headcanon is that the character of Mr. David is actually Dave Saville who is down on his luck after the Chipmunks had a bitter split.

The Baby Ruth maybe a reference to Murray's character in Caddyshack with the pool scene?
