Fun trivia, two giant spiders were created for this movie. They were both rediscovered by a film historian who intended to restore them. However, one was stolen, apparently by none other then the director of the movie itself! Sadly, he had no intent to keep it around and it was reported that the stolen spider was brought to a scrapping plant.

1970s had some impressive practical effects granted that spider noise and all those tarantula wouldve annoyed the hell out of me but hey end of the world all out brawl baby!

I love that it's movement is just bouncing.

The Giant Spider Invasion is a 1975 science fiction horror film directed by Bill Rebane. The film is about giant spiders that terrorize the town of Merrill, Wisconsin and the surrounding area. The Giant Spider Invasion was given a U.S release in theaters in 1975, and was distributed by Group 1 Films. The film received a considerable theatrical run and became one of the 50 top-grossing films of that year. After a three-time ABC television network run, the movie achieved additional exposure many years later, when it was featured in a 1997 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It is now regarded as a cult classic in the B movie realm. The film gives major roles to some actors who might have been considered "has-beens" at the time. The leads were Steve Brodie and Barbara Hale, with other roles going to Alan Hale, Jr. and Leslie Parrish. The film's one "Giant Spider" was constructed by covering a Volkswagen automobile with artificial black fur, with the fake legs operated from the inside by seven members of the crew. The back of the car was the front of the monster, and its red tail lights served as the monster's glowing eyes. A few other "giant spiders" were puppets representing spiders as large as dogs, while full-grown tarantulas were used as spider hatchlings.

I like thee mandatory "girls with almost no clothes on dangerous situations" scenes, of course, for research investigation purposes.

Considering the time period, I doubt the animal deaths aren't...fabricated. Animal death warning: 4 dead cows (one decapitated head, one half of a rib cage, one heavily disemboweled, and one mostly stripped to the bone), one tarantula sliced with a shovel, one tarantula blown up (offscreen), one tarantula squashed with a hot iron, and one giant spider float/ animatronic set ablaze.

This seemed pretty fun to film.

I have a carnage count idea that I think you and all the other sadists watching will get a kick out of; Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) starring William Shatner of Star Trek at his usual antics. Of the 70s killer spider films that is by far the best one, at least over this one, lol. Also, just a couple other ideas; the Bert I. Gordon H.G. Wells films - The Food of the Gods (1976) and Empire of the Ants (1977). Thanks and keep up the good work!

When I was around 5 years old I saw this on TV by chance and within a few minutes of watching I saw the Skipper get eaten by a giant spider. I had so many nightmares about this over the years I forgot all about the source of the nightmares until years later I saw this on MST3K as an adult and it was so absurd looking I couldn’t forgive my five year old self for being scared of this 😂
