You can have your giant spider movies but for me, movies like this where the true horror can hide so easily is more terrifying.

This movie should be called "Australia"

the fact most of these deaths are tragic just adds to the horror

Ironically this is the movie that gave me arachnophobia.

I love the behind the scenes trivia, they used alot of real spiders with animatronic ones, they actually were very careful with the live spiders and made sure not to hurt them. the dead spiders were already dead and died of natural causes. "The safety of the spiders was paramount throughout the entire production, so for one scene where McLintock (John Goodman) had to spray an arachnid with insecticide, then squash it with his boot, the production went to extreme measures: first, a dummy spider was sprayed. then Goodman donned special boots with a hollowed out sole for the squash shot, so that the spider would just curl up inside and wait for the next take." they took alot of measures for the spiders safety

5:54 The spider wasn't meant to land on the actresses' face, but was a "happy accident". Apparently, she was enjoying the hot shower, and when she felt the spider land on her forehead, her immediate thought was "This is PERFECT!", regarding the shot for the scene. Much of the cast and crew actually grew fond of the live spiders (who were harmless to humans), taking care not to hurt them during and after shooting scenes, and some even asopting them.

to make sure nobody get arachnophobia from these scenes most spiders do not live in packs and also spiders are harmless if you dont annoy it and if it is a tarantula they can die from 2 feet drops since the abdomen is full of guts so imagine a water ballon if u drop it from 2 feet it explodes same for the tarantula

I always thought this was the most believable of all the giant spider movies and how these dangerous little bastards snuck up on their victims. Also, John Goodman was such a treasure in this film!

A few years ago, while I was randomly visiting this bookstore that I'd never been to before (and actually have never gone to again) I found this great trilogy of books with a similar plot to this movie. An ancient race of spiders comes back and threatens mankind. Except that it goes MUCH further than this movie ever did. I don't remember all of the details, but the spiders had a connection to the Nazca Lines with one of them being some kind of warning about these creatures or something like that.

This movie makes me worry sometimes, like I now its just a movie but it just makes me wanna look at every corner in my house, making sure not a single spider is nearby

I actually loved that movie to be honest.

Late to the party, but: 1 raven killed by venomous spider, 2 mice killed and webbed up by spiders, 1 cat killed and webbed up by spiders, 1 dead spider in cereal box, 1 spider squished under boot, 6 spiders killed with crazy insecticide, 2 big spiders killed by being fried up. I'm fairly certain they are all prop deaths, but there's always a chance of an accidental death when it comes to the creepy crawly actors. Also, I loved this film, well, still do. Funny and scary all at once. Granted I'm not as scared of spiders as others, but they can still spook me. Fantastic special effects too! Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they used Huntsman spiders for the little guys. Their bites hurt a bunch from their big fangs, but they can't kill you.

Even though I loved horror movies, this movie scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Still the best spider movie of all time, the Jaws of the subgenre if you will. Nothing has surpassed the effects and overall quality of this one. I'm shocked Syfy still has never made a sequel under their brand.

Thanks to this movie, I always had to check my shoes, even my clothes in case of any spiders whenever I went camping. 1:33 That spider queen is just a tarantula. The general spider that hitched a ride on the coffin was twice the size of the spider queen; maybe just a bird-eating Goliath animatronic. 2:42 This is the same actress who also appeared in Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler, as his grandma. No wonder she looked familiar! You missed the scene with the girls' sleepover when they squashed a spider with a book.
