@@hickorymccay2994 I think they settled in Australia because the animals are reminiscent of the creatures mentioned in nonagon and murder of the universe
Hepyrian I can't believe how normal they probably are, like these are guys I'd be friends with but their artistry is amazing, taking elements of fantasy and creating this whole interconnected world of themes and riffs, the music is larger than life, it takes me far far away. I've never had more fun listening to a rock band with such imagination
I always find it interesting how everyone has different takes on the story. I always figured that poly was happening during MotU, as crumbling castle talks about how the vomit has been slowly destroying the world, taking centuries to build up. The traveller went to seek tetrachromacy to defeat Han-Tyumi. I pictured the final instrumental bit of the fourth colour to be a sorta battle and Han-tyumi saying hello at the end just meant he came out victorious. I could see the traveller being Han-Tyumi too. Who knows really.
i don't think the album follows a linear sequence my interpretation is that crumbling castle happens during MotU. Polygondwanaland's chapter precedes Nonagon Infinity, as shown in the video. The Horology trilogy happens after MotU and it is about Han-Tyumi rule as a god - with the 3rd part's end hinting at his regret ("hear of my repentance") before telling his tale to the traveller. The Tetrochromacy chapter is Han-Tyumi's tale, on how he was first "altered" by discovering the Fourth Colour, thus gaining the power to alter the future in MotU.
so simplified (you'll like it, trust me)... through some kind of linear timeline a group keeps getting closer and closer to knowledge through a secret set of info (i.e. the occult through time), get's tricked and opens up the apocalypse through portals (nonagon infinity) trying to seek immortality. They regret what they've done and they then go on their hunt for a promised land out in space but just from the visual cues what everyone is missing is that they somehow stumble upon their younger selves (prob through a wormhole back to old earth while also mentally seeing each other through dreams and tripping balls in 'Invisible Face' and 'Gamma Knife'). They (new and more old really) are being pulled towards themselves per say, the 'promised land' is actually just projections of the past they're seeing through themselves (since Nonagon Infinity kind of loosened up the rules of time and space). The old versions, land and find the younger ones, then give the younger ones info to try to do it all over again better but it's what caused the portal opening in the first place, them meeting themselves using nonagon infinity (i.e. Gamma knife, or that's at least when they open up the portal). They then, like idiots open up the portal (in 'Gamma Knife'). In the mix of it all, a bit after the shit hits the fan when the old and young travelers (who are the same) 'open the door' to hell/the apocalypse, an evil dictator 'lord of lightning' like the anti christ type of character (or whatever you want to call it) who destroys people, arises and is seen through violent interactions with other beings. We then get a hero to match his powers and defeat him by being able to see the light spectrum others can't. It's basically light and dark (where higher beings can be seen as well as possible resources being accessible to those who can see them). He somehow uses the light to destroy the dictator. Somewhere (in linear time after he probably defeats this dictator 'lord of lightning') the hero, Han Tyumi self evolves into part machine, maybe through his need to seek efficiency after gaining his power. He then creates a human like being experiment as he misses being a human and somehow accidentally merges with it creating a destructive force consuming the universe in the future, not just a tear in time and space but actually replacing time and space, tearing and replacing space itself since he probably can consume or grow or use light and dark in ways others can't comprehend. His ability which helped him efficiently defeat evil efficiently destroys as well. He then occupies this space with his experiment/him therefore growing the universe into a deformity, as he's consuming and replacing it...becoming the singularity. Here's the thing that'll throw some off BUT the group(s) who 'opened the door'... opened the door to that physical future... where the universe is being destroyed and warped by this out of control growth... and its leaking into the past (so weird growth Han Tyumi is leaking into the time where Nonagon Infinity was used and 'opened the door'). This is where/why the apocalypse jumps off in turn creating the dictator 'lord of lightning', in turn creating the hero 'Han Tyumi', who becomes the cyborg who creates the 'human' made of soy protein who he merges with and destroys the universe and so on. It's a loop. A loop only realized because some assholes tried to seek immortality. How'd they find out to seek it is the question though? Probably the future dictator 'lord of lightning' being in contact with dark forces trying to get this group to inch closer to meeting each other and 'opening up the door' to unlock this loop of destruction so he can rule. He probably went through the tear in time Nonagon Infinity created. There will probably be more...but would it sound crazy if I told you that's what I think is going on now? To a degree of course. And so do these guys and others. I'm bout 99% sure.
Motion In Art think about it: the lyrics mention hot wax running up someone's leg and under their bed, creeping under floors, doors, hills, and sills, as if something is trying to kill everything
An Adorable Stray Cat it definitely seems to relate to the notions from Volume 2 about the murder of the universe and the consumption of everything. Those lyrics are great to supporting all that.
I got into KGATWL when I'm In Your Mind Fuzz came out. I saw Hot Wax and Cellophane and thought it was the strangest stuff I ever came across by accident. I play guitar and found my way to 22 TET octave/microtonal music because of Stu's guitar. But I've heard over the years some rumours of a Gizzverse story of how it all connects, and have seen some cool videos showing motif throwbacks, but thought it was nonsense. It's just a cool band with 60s surf rock, garage rock, psycheledic, and more all mashed up in a jam where they find multiple applications for grooves and riffs. But damn... this blew my mind. Thanks for this, Motion In Art! I'm more of a fan thanks to these videos!
Another addition to the sleep motif is the lyric's from 'Perihelion' on Infest the Rats Nest "Starship's team full of everybody keen Pilot in the twilight is a deep dream Men and machine convene"
Things go in cycles right. Their ability to tie everything together on so many levels is mindblowing I love gizzard so much and it almost never gets through to people
a nine sided Polygon: Nonagon Infinity: a number greater than any assignable number Gondwana: from a time before judgement day (?) (Poly(Gond)wana)land Sketches of Brunswick East seems to take place after The Murder of the Universe (and was released after it, as well), but it was also released one album prior to Polygondwanaland. Gondwana existed before the apocalypse of Nonagon Infinity, yet they're attempting to travel there long after having to rebuild after the universe becomes a "Singularity". So could they have travelled through time as opposed to outer space, using an infinite loop, to get to Polygondwanaland? And if so, do they know what will happen when they plant the seed? Will the loop ever be broken?
in the last ong they released, han tyumi tells the story of humanity at the end of the song: They existed for two hundred thousand years. (credit to /u/meint48 and myself) Their apex was dance (credit to /u/Gorillapoopass and credit to /u/Doc_Static and /u/JRZee45 for reflex => apex) They left Africa dancing Now the stars watch their silhouettes (It's a lot easier to hear silhouettes at 1.5x speed, again thanks to /u/meint48) go forth (credit to /u/meint48) Dance with the devil. Cyboogie Cyboogie (x3) Oh and stu's reversed voice is saying "Evil Gas" throughout the outro. all from the kgatlw reddit. He tells the story of humanity.
"Born, if you may call it that, in a world that is dense and black." Always thought that line was out of place, given that he is the last to be born of the flesh of a womb. Would he not be the last to be truly born? I thought he meant that the Digital Black future is not truly a place to be born But, if instead, he referred to a birth in tetrachromacy...
It might refer to Han-Tyumi’s subjective experience as an AI, because, if mind uploading where possible, it would create another you, thus creating a new subjective experience with all of your memories.
Just finished the 3rd episode and I have to say, this absolutely blew my mind. I would never be able to come up with this stuff, but it makes so much sense. Keep up the great content!
He makes a cameo in cyboogie at the end and planet b I think is a connection to polygondwanaland and after murder of the universe and it's the apocalypse idk he's even on the cover for the single fishing for fishies idk why he just is.
I absolutely adore this. I would day the things I noticed through all this, but it wouldn't be anything new and... there's too much to say, really! I love all the work you put into this, and look forward to what you make next.
I will make one comment, though: When humans lose or do not have use of one sense, the others become heightened. Likewise, if one were to gain the ability to see something new, such as a new color, everything else in comparison would seem dull and black. Digital black.
BarrierTrioStruckAPose thank you for watching! Interesting outlook on the digital black aspect, I never thought of it like that but I can see what you mean
Okay. Now I'm really curious about whole Gizzverse so far that I want to dive into it by myself to find out more. I just need some acid. For the research purposes.
Great analysis . very well put together. The gizzverse themes seem like gnostic inspired mythology surrounding liberation or the total disidentification from the individual and the dream which is inherently evil
I'm watching this because of last night. Listened to MOTU after cycling through most of the other albums tens of times, and the rest of them a few times. The scene from Usual Suspects is definitely how I felt.
Ok... I own the ATO pressing of Poly w the Han-Tyumi end, is that the only pressing w that ending? We all know Gizz gave the master file away for free and everyone ran w it from there... so why the different endings when there's only one source one master file it's coming from?
like this series so far. definitely gives me a new point of view for the next few times i listen to them. what u didnt mention however are the many many instrumental references between the albums. for example there are elements of paper mache dream balloon (trapdoor) in between parts in murder of the universe. and even if there are parts which are not identical to those of other albums, their "style" and the tuning of the instruments is very much so. also songs like the "the great chain of being" and "all is known" sound like they belong to murder of the universe or something. wonder how much more of those things are hiding there :)
the men with the head growing beneath their shoulder make me think of the mutants in the french movie "gandahar". The guys are excluded from society because of ther weird shape and the language they speak is the "past-future" where every present verb is replaced by some "past-future" form. They speak like this because they consider that everything is a cycle and the have a prophecy that says "in a thousand years gandahar was destroyed, a thousand years ago gandahar will be saved".
I gained a meager amount of support on this theory in the subreddit, so I thought maybe post it here, too. That "Hello" sure is interesting. But jumping to the conclusion that it's the traveler becoming Han-Tyumi always bothered me. It definitely sounds like han tyumi would've been one of the earliest humans turned cyborg rather than the last, as he stated. So what if instead, gaining the power of Tetrachromacy enables or allows him to *perceive* Han-Tyumi. What if the hello absolutely is Han-Tyumi, but he's greeting the traveler who is now able to perceive an omnipotent being. Hell, maybe he's about to absorb the traveler just like he did the entire universe. But I don't think the traveler becomes Han-Tyumi. I think the power of Tetrachromacy puts him on a level to perceive such a being.
All Is Known from Gumboot Soup implies that Han Tyumi is the antagonist of Polygodwanaland not the protagonist. "You've got muscle I am made of Steel" "Digitize cut the eyes from the king and augment to the fourth cone"
I think in loyalty which is clearly from the point of view of the ruler that the people in inner cell are trying to overthrow, it mentions the ruler taking flight which could mean that Polygondwanaland is ruled by the people vulture that spawned from the nonagon egg.
this is probably gonna sound dumb but after taking a glance at the lyrics for Loyalty, i think it might be describing Han-Tyumi's perspective on the coup.
There are actually a few women who have a fourth cone that is usually really similar to one of the others but still, they can detect more shades of some color.
Just realised that in “Murder of the Universe” that Han-Tyumi talks about filling a river with vomit, and seeing a castle crumbling - any links there you think? Or reaching? Loved rewatching the series!
Maybe slightly reaching but I think the notions are still fairly similar. Both have to do with a collapsing civilisation in a way. And thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the series ❤️
I've always thought that there should be some weird psychedelic movie made with a plot similar to that of the Gizzverse's and a soundtrack fully produced by KG
Yea.. so this is my second play-rhru of the series, there's so much to this story haha. Truly amazing, thank you for breaking down some of the parts. @motioninart By the way, are you a Blue Oyster Cult fan? If you finish with these videos, the back story of B.O.C. "Imaginos" also has an amazing depth to it & would be cool to hear some insights on.
Apologies for the late reply! Thank you so much man. Means a lot. I only know they’re most famous song so I can’t say I’m their biggest fan but I’d love to hear more.
Could "polygon" be a verb in this case? As in "poly" = many, and "gon" = gone. As in the death of the universe must happen before the birth of the new one through nonagon infinity? See, nonagon infinity is also a verb in this case, because it opens the door to that new universe, where gonwandaland will appear, where the travelers sojourn for.
Jack Buenfeld I’ll be releasing videos on other topics so the short term answer is no but maybe in the future I’ll come back to revisit any potential links if King Gizzard release new videos that heavily relate to it. My research on the album mainly drew up various brainwashing references and ideas of manipulating the mind in different ways. Personally I believe it can tie into the Gizzverse as I’ve mentioned with the hand lingering on top of the castle which is seemingly about be crumbled. But it could also be with if say someone was in control of such powers and that might be relating to Han-Tyumi or other figures released from the nonagon apocalypse. But by that point I’d be guessing and extrapolating way too much from the lyrics. This is just my initial thoughts.
I think mother nature is supposed to be an important character in mind fuzz. IIYM and Am I In Heaven seem to reference humanity's destroying of the environment/mother nature (see: "everybody wants to suck you dry", "Well, everybody that I knew has jumped right in / and taken over you / and I swear even the ocean's changed its hue") whereas Her and I, the last track, shifts to something more hopeful. I thought it was just an ordinary love song, but the lyrics "Because everyday I build on precious her and I / It wouldn't hurt to put in some work on this angel / I'll fill her heart with a lot of love / So the sun can shine a little brighter" make me think the "her" he loves so much is mother nature and he wants to make an effort to save her from the damage everyone else has done. This all seems to work well with the human-inflicted apocalypse these videos have been talking about, telling it from the point of view of someone who wants to prevent it before it happens.
Natsnapper399 I can definitely see the personification which is interesting but whether or not Mother Nature is a character in the Gizzverse, for me at least, remains to be seen. Definitely some obvious references like you’ve pointed out though
