Coppola explained it with the words " Michael becoming paranoid like Nixons America "... Michael was in Cuba for months. He was surrounded by whores and mafia. He was looking over his shoulder waiting to be killed while trying to kill Roth. When he came home he was so ashamed he couldn't face Kay. Instead he ordered Fredo's death. Michael didn't want to kill him, he changed his mind when he found out about the consequences of his actions. Just the fear that he could lose Kay got him to order Fredo's death. Tha Senat hearing began and he had to fight for his life again. He was under emotional pressure, he is waiting for his mother to die so he can kill his brother so when he found out about baby he lost it.

He did bc he loved her and cared about her. He turned himself into a savage animal to protect Kay so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved.

He payed millions to get Roth into country so he can kill him for ruining his marriage, out of pure vengeance. He aged over night when she didn't come to his mother's funeral. She killed the baby, left him and didn't come to his mother's funeral and yet, he never gave up on her. He never took the ring of his finger or touched another woman for the rest of his life. When he lost her he got diabetes, stopped smoking, drinking and killing. He sent her the children 3 years later when Anthony was 10. That was registered in the script. Music of the ending of gf2 is Love said goodbye by Andy Williams. Song that speaks about devastated man who lost his love, his dreams. " Everything he did he did for his family and in the end he destroyed his family ".....Coppola while commenting gf2. She married another man he is holding photos of her all over his house, writing letters begging his children to convince her to come so they can see each other. His favorite song is To each its own by Livingston performed by Johhny Fontana at the beginning of the movie. He gave up on the position of godfather and asked for redemption, promising he would never sin again just to get one chance to be with Kay. " You were all that I loved and valued most in the world and I'm losing you, I lost you anyway you are gone...."

Is the third movie worth watching? I've avoided it for so long since I heard it wasn't up to the level of the prequels.

@@Chip_Fuse It ties loose ends part 2 left behind, it's still an excellent movie although there will be some parts questioning the choices made by the directors. Part 3 finalizes the legacy of the Corleone family, if you liked the godfather you have to watch it.

Family is there for Vito's birthday. When he walks through the door everybody goes towards him. Michael stands in front of him and says " I will never be a man like you ". Coppola begged Brando to do the scene, offer all the money but he reacted. He was angry at the studios for not paying him for gf1. Imagine.... Brando was supposed to be in second one.. So Coppola rewrote it to make the same point... Everybody is going towards Vito except Michael. He is not interested in being around him, it's his family not him. " He betrayed himself, he corrupted himself, he became his fathers puppet "....Coppola while commenting gf2
