I just upgraded my trilogy to 4k, I have the DVD versions of them (I am not a fan of the 3rd one), but have not had a chance to watch them. I was hoping for an Atmos track though, but I guess due to their age, would of been hard to do. Great review as always Adam!

Hey Adam, saw this just recently at a Dolby cinema theater for the 50th anniversary and it looked outstanding . Going to hold on to see if I can get the deluxe set gets. a reduced price really wanna check them out after seeing the how good the first godfather looked. Interesting to see that the theatrical release of Godfather part three is delegated to the bonus section clear indication that coda is the version Francis wants you to watch glad they included both though, have a great one as always

Great review. I picked up the collectors edition and agree with everything you say. I'm disappointed with the sleeves the discs are located in though in all honesty.

I just got the trilogy in the mail. I’ve yet to open it but one thing I was hoping for is a release of The Godfather Epic. ( I think that’s what it’s called) which is a cut of both Godfather films presented in chronological order released on tv in 1976 with additional scenes. I saw some of it on tv a few years ago and I really think the additional scenes are great. They are not just fillers they actually give the story more context. Anyway I’m looking to forward to watch it

I recently purchased the Collector’s Edition from Best Buy of The Godfather Trilogy to eventually watch in my Atmos home theater. I’ll be honest with you, I am of Italian descent and I originally watched these films as a child. I can’t say they were movies that I was drawn to rewatch over and over. I found myself later on in my life watching Mario Puzo’s The Last Don starring Jason Gedrick more. LOL I think it was a lighter and more fun movie vs the darker Godfathers. I also liked Joe Mantegna’s story and performance as Pipe Dalena. You can only find The Last Don on DVD and I hope to pick that up sometime.

I just picked this up. Hopefully soon I can dive into them.

Hmm, I see what you mean with the packaging. I recently purchased Ghostbusters Trilogy 4k box set OOP w/ the 2016 film. All three films came with slipcovers in the box set, I'm surprised there wasn't better/other packaging with this timeless classic.

I'm REALLY glad that, although the cardboard in the packaging may be a bit flimsy, the discs themselves are actually in their own individual plastic holders, in order to store and protect them properly. I was really worried that it was gonna be the stupid cardboard "book" again where you have to slide the discs in and out (NO, I do NOT want scratches on my discs, so I have to take them out and store them safely elsewhere/separately...) so I'm glad that the discs are at least properly stored in this set.

Adam - when you're doing the unboxing the camera loses focus sometimes. It hurts my head 😣

I watched the first film yesterday and it is a stunning transfer for "this" film. Very little grain but it is not too soft. I purchased the super expensive collectors edition which is an amazingly made set. Great review as always.

I waited for years for this reissue and was terrified Paramount would fucked it up like they do with everything they own. But I was genuinely excited when I heard it was a brand new restoration vs the 2008 scan. The color is corrected, sharp, and even tho Gordon Willis has passed and could not be involved so I trusted Coppola knew how it looked. And then I saw the rerelease and it was amazing and the torrent rips last week was perfect. The Godfather means the world to me as it literally changed my life as I transitioned from a boy to a Man. The amazing story, directing and acting introduced me to Marlon Brando at his best vs Superman, Al Pacino, Duvall, Caan, & Keaton all became my favorite actors at once. But Vito’s character spoke to me because he was a good father. I didn’t have much of a father and it made me understand “Women and children can be careless, but not men” was not sexist message but a parallel message “Heavy is the head that wears the crown”. As a young man, that was my epiphany

Is the standard HD BLU Ray set still worth owning ?

How does it compare to the new blu ray version? Is it a notable upgrade? I would love the 4k but can't afford the price tag

Received mine a few days ago and I have to say…the packaging is crap. Flimsy box, cheap little cardboard movie holders. What an underwhelming presentation for such an iconic line of films. I expected better.

The packaging is really quite poor. The Universal Monster collection now looks deluxe! I read years ago that the original aspect ratio of the first two films was not actually 1:85:1 but Coppola intended it to be seen closer to Academy standard and simply projected it this way by masking the top and bottom of the screen. Thank you for another great informative video!

Did you buy escape from L A yet? Are the white upc still have audio issues or not that big of deal?

I'm surprised you didn't opt for the Limited edition boxset being such a fan, any reason why? I picked up a copy myself and seeing how flimsy the standard edition boxset is I'm glad I did, definitely worth the extra money👌🏼 cool review as always, cheers.

In THE GODFATHER 2 I grew up always seeing that heavy yellowish tint and now that's gone.

I love 4k transfer . But hate the cheasy half ass box with the skinny slips. All they had to do was make 4k in blu ray slip covers and made a hard box. For 50th anniversary I was very disposable.

I'll wait until I can get single copies of #1 and #2. Most likely #1. I think #2 looks great on bluray..

Does release include Coda?

My favorite movies of all time...except for the third one. Coda is definitely an improvement over the previous cut, but still not nearly as good as the first two

The deluxe set, for some bizarre reason, is as good a package as the "regular" set is bad.

Random grain removal applied, clunky encode and incorrect colors.

They screwed up everything in the picture quality

Great 4k review to a beloved American classic but the flimsy packaging is very disappointing & no dolby atmos audio & also no blu-ray version 🤷 50th Anniversary deserves much better for $72.00, is over price in my opinion🤦 Good Job Buddy 🍻

I give the video a "B". I saw a little unevenness. Only way I would give a "A" is something like THE SHINING where that's perfect 4k.

The dutch packaging release is terrible even no independent cases inside.... just an inlet...

I will never understand the cheap ass packaging for this release.

Frozen grain, heavy DNR, almost no new extras, terrible flimsy packaging, etc...The 2008 Blu Ray restoration, while not perfect is a better way of watching these films...NO way would Gordon Willis have signed off on this! Paramount strikes again...This is an appalingly bad release ALL around.
