Javale McGee Reveals why he has signed with the Kings Instead Of the Warriors. If it weren't for the reasons for which he decided to play in Sacramento instead of Golden State, this wouldn't mean much. This needs to be fixed NOW.
Although Saric is only 6'10, I believe he was a fantastic acquisition for the Dubs. His skill set aligns perfectly with the team's system, and he'll help alleviate some of the pressure on Looney. While it would be beneficial to have a player who can apply more rim pressure, I'm skeptical that such a player would be enthusiastic about that role. They would likely receive limited minutes each night, and the Warriors don't have the $$$ to pay them accordingly. Although we can increase the odds, I do believe that a frontcourt featuring Green-Looney-Saric (with Wiggins and Kuminga contributing) is capable of winning a championship.
I think what the warriors are trying to do is split responsibility among multiple players. They may not find the stretch 5 that can dish, crash the boards and guard 1-5, but they might have the stretch 4 that can dish and add a 5 that can crash the boards and guard 3-5.
Small-ball is fine and works in measured doses. You can play alot more Small-ball when you have prime Steph, KD, Klay, Dray, and add in Iggy and Livingston. When you don't have the same caliber of players as far as skills and IQ, you need to match other teams' size.
Obviously he was never gonna come to GS. He had friction with Kerr because he wasn't getting enough minutes, what makes you think he'd get mins as the 14th man, especially with Saric on the roster? That's why he left in 2019 to join the Lakers for more playing time. The fact they were in the discussions is suprising.
Well, Dunleavy didn't think it was a foregone conclusion that McGee wouldn't come back. I'm sure if he didn't have any other offers, he'd take what he could get. That's all the Warriors are able to offer anyone at this point.
GSW needs bigs, but more importantly Kerr has to play them. The world cup exposed that small ball still needs defensive bigs. Otherwise GSW lucky if they make the play in this season.😢
True. Sad thing is though, with Paul, I think Mcgees value would increase and he would've ended up with more minutes. Especially true, because he can protect the rim.
I was pissed when they "let" him leave in 2019. I've ALWAYS said having JaVale on the roster was key to that championship run and was why we didn't repeat. TBH, I'm tired on Kerr. That year Kerr was hurt, Mike Brown did a hell of a job coaching. Kerr came back for the Finals because he KNEW if Mike won the championship, the chatter would be ON!!! I personally think Mike is a better coach.
But, what if the Warriors had Saric and McGee? Big bodies at the 5 at all times. Green, Looney, Kuminga rotating at the 4. This would be championship ready.
Another problem with our defense down low, was our defense up top. Steph has improved, but is still not a great defender. With him and Poole out there, it was an easy walk into the paint. Our bigs had to switch, and passes continuously got thrown over the top. Paul is short, and old, but he will be in the right position defensively. At least he knows how to defend, Poole was a nightmare.
Yep this is the elephant in the room of this team. I think it's part of the root cause of the defensive issues. The overhelping in the paint is something many teams fall prey to but I think it's especially bad for this Dubs team because they know they have no rim protection at all. I love Looney and Dray's accomplishments speak for themselves but let's not act like either of them are really keeping anyone from the basket. In truth Dray may play the 5 a lot these days but that doesn't mean he can really guard the true giants of the league either. Jokic and Embid Bully him as they would any other player down low. While It's fair to say the league has changed a fair bit since 2015 and more is asked of centers than any position on the floor. In todays game they have to do everything, shoot, pass and dribble, bang down low and protect the rim but also get asked to switch out onto the perimeter. While most the past big men for the Dubs can't fulfill all that, neither can Dray or Looney.
Excellent data. I thought they were going after Myles Turner for Wiggs, having Kuminga to fulfill Wiggs spot, although it would’ve been a sad decisión getting rid of Wiggs. But M Turner fit perfectly to take care of the paint on both ends, adding the same 18 points from Wiggs. With Myles , the big guys would’ve great rotation the hole game. We’ll see how they perform this year, hope we’re wrong.
I completely, almost, agree. I wanted Myles Turner... I like what you said, but for me it's Draymond Green for Turner that I wanted... get younger. Get more size... keep the scoring. Yes.
First of all, Christian Wood doesn't fit what the Warriors are doing at all. He doesn't play D, he has no passing vision, and his IQ is below average. What makes you think he'd be playing consistent minutes on the GS Warriors? Just because you are talented, doesn't mean you fit the roster. Second of all, with what money to pay him? The Warriors cannot afford anything over a vet minimum, especially with the new CBA. The Lakers have that money. I genuienly dont understand this obsession with Wood, if he was what y'all make him out to be, he'd be making 12-15 mil a year. Not 2.
Thanks for watching! Sky makes a good point on the fit however. Look at what makes Loon successful and build off that. Any player that sticks has to be able to move the ball around. Guys can't have a superstar mentality with high expectations (unless they're like I mentioned in the video). They're role needs to be HIGHLY supportive of the motion offense with trying to get Curry/Klay open shots as the primary offense.
Personally, I'm glad the Warriors didn't go after Wood. This is a guy that couldn't succeed in Dallas and Houston. Why are people so high on him? Because of that one outlier in Detroit? He's never been a winner and his next stop won't change that. NBA fans are so high on the Lakers making the WCF they conveniently forget that they did that coming from the play-in. For their sake, I hope Wood doesn't take them completely out of the playoffs.
I couldn't agree more. Besides, it is hard for them to win the Championship now if they'd stick to playing small-ball and wouldn't want to get a reliable center. The main core is kinda old and the guards, shooting guards, and forwards are not as fast and accurate as they were.
They definitely do need the size. The core guys can't expend as much effort as they did 8 yrs ago on those hustle plays. They need somebody willing to put it all out there on the floor, a physical presence to deter opponents Right now no one is afraid of getting into the paint with the dubs.
Very good analysis Swish. One pattern that's emerged is that GWS cannot develop centers. Ekpe Udoh (2010), Festus Ezeli (2012), Damian Jones (2016), and James Wiseman (2020) are good examples of that. Do you think this is a fair assessment?
This is fair considering they haven't really developed any of the players they've drafted at the 5. With Kerr, the franchise has ended up doubling down on guards and a focus on winning with already developed players or those that can thrive in the mold of Curry/Klay or Green. It would seem if players can't really fill these specific roles, it becomes problematic for them to become a part of the lineup. GP2 is an exception, but otherwise, you see Kerr finds it difficult to give the young players minutes.
Well that list looks like they just haven't drafted well. Boucher being the exception. I think they have developed Looney more than cpuld even be expected. Would've loved to see mcgee with Paul for that lob threat.
What do you think about Trayce Jackson Davis who stands at 6’10 and is a good passer and has a 7 foot wingspan ? cus I see a better version of kevon looney in him
Have some respect for Loon, man. Would love TJD to turn out great. His post D and overall defensive positioning is weak. He chases blocks waaay too much. At least hes not 19 years old. Hopefully, he can learn quick. That defensive positioning, he should've learned in high school. Been getting away with using his athleticism. That won't fly in the league.
They need Dwight Howard for sure a height 6”11 weight 260 with a 7”5 wingspan for or Demarcus cousins is available in free agency big man and size matters
I've been a javale fan for a long time, especially with the warriors. But, his time on the court has diminished over the years, and he had a hard time keeping up when on the court.
I'm not sorry JaVale went with Coach Browne. GS takes its time to go for him, when we were pleading for them to do so. They are always so quick to trade and trade the wrong ones. Good choice Kings!!!. I wish WARRIORS all the best this season, but I'm on reserve. They piss me off ROYALLY last season. #StrengthInNumbers #WeBelieve #DubNation #thatswhoweare #GSW #TeamWarriors #thatswhoweare 🇦🇬🤞🙏
@@MaxPotentialGreatness fr man, like I get it, it's Looney he's been loyal and he's put in work, but let's be honest, he's only in the starting line up BECAUSE there hasn't been a real big man there since cousins
@@SwishCulture they've had 2 opportunities to get some vets, they could've got Dwight Howard and they could've got Javelle Mcgee, I would DEFINITELY give them the starting spot over Looney. If they don't find a decent one and stop being cheap, they can win 2 more rings but their loyalty is gonna be their downfall.
I appreciate your comment. Sorry to be the bearer or bad news my friend. The good news is they're actively looking for one and still have a roster spot, so let's see if they make a move.
All these years, the narrative around why Javale couldn't get more playing time for teams was because of his asthma. But with Javale getting less than 10 minutes with GSW, we know the truth.
I've been saying it for a long time. When it comes to McGee unless there is zero option he won't come to Warriors why? You just heard it from him he isn't going to sign because of Kerr. He doesn't want to sit and watch he showed how valuable the year he was with Laker he did what KERR wouldn't allow him. This video just ran through what I've been saying for years with Kerr that he playing small ball only this is his legacy. His last chance is this year! If he fails Christmas KERR is gone. They didnt miss out Brown already has enough bigs but know the Warriors to make sure they had zero chance. McGee might not even make the team King will release one after the season starts just to mess with Kerr. Kerr is the reason players aren't coming and his screw up this week hasn't help.
@@SwishCulture I've been a fan for 60 years, and it isn't pleasant to speak my opinion but being s fan doesn't mean you have to support them by being silent. But I've seen worse through the years, owners, GM, coaches. Not to be disrespectful to any expert I need not have to have a pedigree like Jay Bilas to see a pattern. That pattern players like Cousins, Howard, aren't coming if KERR wanted them it would have happened main reason attitiute they aren't going to sit and be silent same reason JMG isn't back. You blame him one leader one mouth like Draymond is all he can handle. That is Kerr, MO it was evident the last year Durant was on the team when he started to go off the rail. Go back on interviews when Durant said " They know who I am " then KERR frustration with Green in Background mouthing off sarcasticly with Kerr saying he should coach. 😂
You are right on with your evaluation of the Warriors, Steve Kerr, and the odds of winning another championship. But, I would like to take your comments to another level. Everyone in the league knows that Mike Brown was the coach for the Warriors and he was key to guiding them through the championship years. However, Steve Kerr has been given the credit that he did not earn. Put your data together when Mike Brown was with the Warriors and post Mike Brown. The results will be surprising.
Hey Kirk! Thanks for the kind words, man. Great take, but the fanbase can only handle so much "Steve Kerr ain't sh*" before they get frustrated and decide to stop watching. Let's see how we start the season and go from there.
Yes, typically small ball is for spacing the floor, but Draymond isn't a shooter and neither is Looney. Furthermore, when Klay is cold, he's VERY cold. Wiggins isn't as reliable as a perimeter threat. This leaves Curry alone to carry the load on a small lineup. This can be problematic.
@@SwishCulturewiggins was shooting 45% from 3 before his personal issues though so hopefully he’ll get back to that. Moody is also a pretty good shooter
@@toastedricee3123 Wiggins was going crazy from three for the first half of the season. The 2nd half was not so well for him. He's missed some clutch shots that would've helped but sometimes I would've rather watch him take it to the rack. That said, therein lies the problem. The Warriors being a smaller team makes it tough to go up against the bruisers. While they can manage a few times, it wears on you eventually.
Precisely. If they give him what he's likely looking for (he's most likely leveragimg the 2022 chip), that's gonna put a strain on the team hetting help. Look has been taking a pay cut so Klay could get paid. I think KT should be reasonable.
@@SwishCultureI don’t see KT leaving the Warriors because Steph, Draymond, Clay, and Looney see them as their family; this is important to all involved. I’m hopeful they will find a way to make it work.
Actually with what I saw when he played for the warriors, am convinced he enjoyed playing with KD instead of Curry cause every time I watch them he looked a lot happier with Durant I believe for real
While I don't think he's available, the one guy I hope the Warriors go after is Alperen Sengun. Unfortunately, I highly doubt the Rockets would be willing to take back Chris Paul in a trade for him.
The league is changing from the Steph player build to the Giannis build. Now the warriors need a team full of Kumingas to go along with the green light play style they have
Excellent in depth analysis Swish! It makes perfect sense why McGee would by pass the Warriors. Steven Kerr's coaching staff has not found a way to incorporate bugs into their schemes. It is certainly one of the dynamics that has made consistent winning a problem over the passed two seasons. Bravo!
@@SwishCulture They sure need some help in the paint. The FBA tourney should have opened Kerr's eyes, but I'm not optimistic about it. I wish Ty Lue was the Warriors coach, honestly. I think he's much more creative. But, we'll see.
Their needs as described perfectly describes Superman aka Dwight Howard indeed! And being that he's been been playing in Asia, he'll no doubt welcome to return back to play in the nba and do it "for cheap"
Javale should have got the starting center spot and it bit the warriors. Got the #1 pick that year we would have got lamelo ball and got more rings splash brothers
Realistically GSW shoulda been hellbent on signing Jakob Poetl. They've been looking for a true Bogut clone for years but it's not going to happen. Just get someone close that can learn the offense and play defense. Jakob played with the Spurs. He'll be fine.EDIT- didn't realize Free Agency was over. They'll have to get Hernangomez at the least - or even Kaminsky (as bad as his defense is) or trade Lamb in a package for someone restricted
Warriors could had picked a very good rim protector on Alperen Sengun drafted 15th when they had a chance over Moses Moody drafted @14th during 2021 NBA draft.
Well, they had James Wiseman already at that point with high hopes. They needed the Moody pick and he's been very good. That said, Sengun was my next pick after Moody.
That year..myers drafted kuminga and moody over wagner and sengun..that was a total fiasco..then he overpaid jpoole and kept wiseman too long until he lost his trade value..that was the reason why lacob did not extend his contract...he could have traded wiseman for turner, sabonis, or poeltl...and jpoole for simons or herro..and the dubs could have retained the chip last year...the roster could have been..steph, klay, wiggs, green, and sabonis, turner, or poeltl...coming off the bench could have been..simons or herro, donte, wagner, sengun, and loon plus jgreen, a veteran pg, and their first and second picks last season..
@@antoniouy9704Far from a fiasco. Kuminga and Moody are both still 20 years old. They are also both good players. I still want those guys going forward. This is year 3. Supposed to be the year everything clicks. Kerr just needs to give them minutes. Kuminga is 6'9"ish, with a huge wingspan, huge athleticism, and good defensive instincts. Not that he could stop Jokic or anything, but he should be a great help defender down low.
Sorry to hear that MrB. I do like to talk basketball and typically there are a lot of surrounding facts to a topic so I try not to leave anything out. You might come here for one thing, but you end up getting a bit more including my thoughts on the ideas I present at times. No matter how much I put in though, it's always never enough or too much but thanks for the feedback!
Well there are a number of reasons. First one being that guys that don't make it in the NBA go and play in the Euroleague. They're typically not as effective in NBA basketball.
@@SwishCulture Willy Hernangómez is available. He is a skilled big with good fundamentals (which Kerr covets) and passing abilities. He'd be a very good addition and fit for GSW.
@@Acer3859 I like Willy's game and think he'd be a good fit, but the warriors signed saric and thered be a lot of overlap. If they didnt have Saric, they could go after him which leads to the next problem. He's making more money at home than he would here.
That Kings team was a new lineup, new core 5, new coaching staff, implementing a new play scheme. People forget that. Yet took the former champs to 7 - NOT PLAYING THEIR BEST basketball. Last season was a measure stick - you know this if you'd watched their vlog series "The Run." With the exception of the rookies (1 has a 4yr contract, the other a 2way contract) and Sasha, the newness is gone. They know what to expect - that's why they've been quiet the entire off-season. They've all been in the gyms - working. Them exiting 1st round in the playoffs this season is less likely to happen, IMO.
Get Neemias Queta solid and 24 years old athletic 7 footer that runs the floor shot blocker moves well set solid screen.I seen his footwork which is not a surprise being from Portugal . Will learn from Looney and Draymond
He could be a good pickup, the team worked out a number of guys couple days ago, but considering two were guards, it's tough to figure out what they're trying to accomplish.
And I'll say another thing. Steve Kerr disrespected Javelle McGee, for ZaZa Pachulia ?????? Kerr woukd cut Mcgees minutes DNP him multiple games . Javale will never play for Kerr again . Swish, I bet you Mcgee's mom doesn't want her son playing for Kerr either. She used to play basketball and understands the game. being in WNBA.
Playing small ball without shooters with non stop movement, playing off the ball with cohesiveness, like steph and klay under fiba rules is downright stupid...tbh..with all the dubs chips..i really don't think kerr that good as a coach...
He certainly could've made some better decisions and doubling down on small ball isn't going to help going forward, especially not with the talented bigs the team has to face. You at least need someone to guard them.
Do you think Steph should be forced to carry the team like he did...again? The exception should not be made the rule. Just because Steph's offense was enough to bring the Warriors to a chip, the West is healthier and stronger. Steph alone is not beating Jokic and Murray. If it were reliable enough dubs would've beaten the Lakers.
@SwishCulture. No Steph shouldn't be forced to carry the team again. Wiggins was out most of the year. Gp2 wasn't fully healthy. Poole was a dumptruck! No excuses, just the truth. I believe Warrior's are a better team than last year. Draymond plays the best defense against Joker. Klay will be better this year. Gp2 back to locking up players. Saric will be a beast with the Warrior's. Cp will help with less turnovers. Poole had 252 turnovers last year, sloppy! Warrior's will beat the Lakers this year.
Look if G.S signs Dwight Howard their big man problem will be alright because Howard is coming back to show everyone who's cast him aside and watch out because he might win comeback POTY.??
@@SwishCulture no sir I said what I said bcuz I watched every Warriors game (league pass) since 2014. They was playing ATL McGee went for a block and wildly jumping up in the air coming down on Steph leg.
So you would rather play a bigger role on a team that doesn't win chips or would you rather play your role on a team that wins? He sounds slow...so he had a 30-point, 20-reb game...one game out of how many in a career? It's clear he is more suited to be a role player than a significant piece. If it were the other way around he would have produced early in his career when he was a starter. Buddy has been in the league since 2008 and his best game didn't come until he was with the Lakers, which was in 2018-19 and was his best season as a player and he only averaged 12 pts per game. That tells you all you need to know...he was being used properly based on his output when he was with the Warriors. People need to get a grip and learn to recognize their contributive potential or lack thereof.
You don't understand basketball too well, do you ? It's not just about McGee, Kerr has a problem with big men and he's too stubborn to accept his mistake. He wouldn't even play Kuminga to the point that he didn't adjust at all against the Lakers and in his pride doomed the team to make the same mistake again and again till they got eliminated. I know GSW is a fast paced high octane fluid offense but they would greatly be benifitted by adding a big man as he'd provide a screen and roll dimension, a lob threat and a defensive rim protector- all of which GSW desperately need and even a novice fan could see that but somehow Kerr refuses to.
I think he wanted the opportunity to grow, but when there's consistency within a system, one in which he went the same as everyone else before him, the system then takes some responsibility. Some people are late bloomers and he was at peak with GS.
@@afterthought054 McGee is speaking about his time there, not any other big...and like I stated in my initial comment he HAD NOT been a big producer his entire career... let's take scoring out of the equation...for his size over his career he only averages 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks at 7'0"...for a player...Jokic by contrast and definitely nowhere near as nimble or athletic as Javale averages 10.5 rebounds at 6'11"...he just is not a top tier player...so where he got floor time or not he wouldn't be a big factor.
@@darrellwilliams1991 Yes I agree he has had an underwhelming career for someone of his size and athleticism but also consider the fact that he was a late bloomer and this can be evidenced by his efficiency numbers in GSW wherein although he played few minutes , he did a good enough job. The real issue here is that Kerr won't integrate bigs(real ones anyway) into his system even to his detriment. Again I'll say this- GSW won the chip in 2022 "despite" not having a big man, not because small-ball is superior
Small ball works.. they have 4 championships doing it.. 😂😂😂 I think FIBA small ball, just don't have the right players to do it according to Steves playbook. GSW small ball death line ups in the past got a good balance of Defense and Offense, not this year, and not in FIBA.
Works in measured doses. What the team is doing nowadays is different than what they did when they won the first 3 chips. The 4th was an anomaly. We shouldn't expect Steph Curry to carry like that. Not even LeBron carried the Cavs the way Curry carried the Warriors in 2022
Please delete this video cause every teams needs to plays big when it’s count the Warriors the play big sometimes not just adjustments to play small ball that’s only! I don’t know why you making this video bro😂😂😂
Bro spent the first 5 min saying the same thing over and over again without even getting to the point i just stopped the video to drop a comment and move on to the next video
Mcgee forget that he was a joke and just about given up on. And it was the Warriors that breathed life into his career. His chance with the Lakers wouldn't of happened if it wasn't for the Warriors.
Well, with that logic, no one but the players and coaches should talk about basketball, which includes you Mister Guy 😁 And nah...not an expert, just a nobody that likes to talk about the sport😅
The reason the warriors don't push hard for these so called big men. Is because they are all dead weight. And below average players. For a true big man. And they are not worth the money they want or are getting. Plus none of them I would want on the floor at crush time. Because they don't have the ability or smarts. So why would I want to waste my money on someone I can't trust at crush time. Plus none of them are able to comprehend the warriors philosophy and system. And another thing is they are all me me me players. Not team players.
How does someone who has no experience coaching or playing in the NBA. Criticize and second guess. A coach and players that have 4 championships under their belts. Your opinion means nothing and is total 💩. If you criticize them. I can criticize you. And my opinion isn't total 💩. Because it's based on fact. And yours isn't.
