For a pixel peeper like you, it might not be good...but for me, travelling with this camera is a game changer. Ive had osmo, multiple goPros, but nothing comes close to the X3.

I think a lot of people use this camera to post on social media sites that are consumed on smartphones via apps. On those smaller screens in 9x16 format I'm sure the video quality is more than fine. Thanks for sharing.
The end video can be very detailed and sharp but needs the correct settings and very good light. I shoot 360 videos playing with my dog and after reframing I’m able even to see the small grass leaves. 5.7k, low sharpness in the camera settings and then reframing in 360 app then premier pro and last Topaz AI but only if really really needed. The results are awesome 😎

I think it’s easy to get hung up on video output quality when taking about this camera. But it’s important to keep in mind the main reason you get any video camera in the first place - it’s to film things. So no amount of camera resolution quality is going to make boring content look good.
*The problem with these kind of action cameras is that they were really meant for just taking specialized action videos. Other than that, photos or vlogging, a flagship cellphone would shoot in better quality.*
Thanks for the very informative review. Lots of valid points but... This is a camera for fun. The physics determine how good the resolution and video quality will be. An Action camera will never be able to produce the same quality photos and videos of a DSLR. There's a limit to how many pixels you can fit on a small sensor and a small sensor with a lot of pixels is going to be noisy. If you make the sensor larger then the camera is going to have to be larger and the "action" aspect is lost and you have a bridge or DSLR. I have "real" cameras when I want great photos and videos. The "real" cameras also cost a lot more than this relatively cheap fun camera. The cost of a good fisheye lens for a 35 mm camera, which also would be used for unusual shots, is on par with the cost of the Insta360 x3. But, based on your video and others, you can do some really incredible things with the 360 that I can't do with my "real" cameras. And when you do those really incredible things no one is going to notice small differences. Again, thanks for the review. You have pushed me over the edge and I'm pretty sure there is an Insta360 X3 in my future.

I only use this for fun stuff.. i don’t consider this a serious gadget like mirrorless camera’s and expensive F1.2 lenses…insta 360 is to make fun acceptable quality pictures and videos don’t wanna use this for serious work..its just a fun toy for me on family outing trips.

360 cam is already my favorite for everyday walking family memories. And tiny planet is just unbeatable effect unavailable in any others even crazy expensive cameras. So 360 for my studio is a MUST be (using Insta 360 one RS from day one ) Nice talking, thank you.
Insta360 X3 is a unique action cam that does require more effort to achieve good results. The Sticky Lens Guards are a must, and they do degrade the image quality. Insta360 needs to offer a higher-quality lens option like glass. I would like to see the X4 have a removable screw-in lens. It would nice if Insta360 could offer more editing options to make the workflow easier.

Reframing shots is like editing twice. Battery life when in 360 mode could be better. Otherwise it's useful and can complement other cameras. Idk if I'd choose it as a main camera tho
Thanks for the video, your humor makes it engaging, but not at the cost of a lot of factual information. I just started using an X3 for on bicycle recording (mostly clips for reels and Instagram posts). Seems to be working well. I’m going to try out the HDR now, to see how that looks. I’ve been using Vivid with -0.5EV. I’m usually posting on the fly with no manipulation, only cuts. Thanks for your information!
@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens I am competing in ultra distance events and so the mount for the camera doubles as the headlamp mount for night time riding, to keep weight down, so there's no low-light conflict there! I'll take your advice and try the HDR next ride, I'm going to change the setting now, so I don't forget! 😉
First of all because I hear it a lot and it is driving me crazy . People always refer to 4K as it is a better image . You want a 4k or a 5.7 or even a 8k image (smartphones) on a smaller sensor . But when you are on a super 35 or a full frame the 4k isn't that important . Even now big film productions are made in just 1080 , but they are on Arri Alexas . I am just mentioning it because the numbers are often not so important than other factors . Especially for serious work you NEED a bigger sensor and you NEED a great dynamic range. As a professional videographer I think that even the low resolution output of this camera has its place for some occasions . All the equipment that we have are TOOLS . We just have to use the right tool for the right situation . FPV drone shots- GOPRO CRAZY reels and stories - insta360 X2, X3 FOLLOW MODE on a tripod - just use your phone with a gimbal like osmo mobile 6 or the new insta360 flow with their tracking (cheap solution) I use much more expensive cameras on my work but for social media I use EVERYTHING ... and to be honest EVERYTHING has its place... I also use the insta360 go2 quite a lot . I think it is a phenomenal camera in some occasions for some crazy shots .

It's the post release hype that was misleading a little bit ;) I really expected the video to be much better then on my Osmo Action because it's a much older camera. Hello! I would suggest the DJI Osmo Action 4 because it's the cheapes and in my oppinion the best looking camera (I mean best video quality) BUT all three are amazing and now the Insta360 Ace Pro is also added to the list. The most versitile is the Insta360 X3 and it's also the most fun to use. There is a bit more work in post production but the software is very easy to learn and very good. The video quality is however not the best. Insta360 Ace Pro is supposed to be the best one as it is the newest but it is more expencive then DJI Osmo Action 4 and has the exact same sensor ans the DJI Osmo Action 4. Thanks for the honest review. One thing I wonder, with these smaller sensor cameras, is that are the marketing videos shot with the same product, or something that shoots extremely high bitrates, but only in very short bursts? The marketing videos always look clean and have very few artefacts, but footage from normal everyday users is definitely not as good. Maybe I'm just being paranoid? The DJI Action 3 also has almost picture perfect marketing clips, but on the consumer version image quality doesn't even compare. Again, short clips that could be shot with custom firmware, but not something that would be viable for consumer use. Your X3 footage is also somewhat disappointing when comparing it to marketing sample clips, and I don't think there's much you can do post-processing wise to affect the image quality.

Also I have a DJI air 2 s and recorded a video in max 5.6k but it took me all afternoon to upload it from my hotel in Fuerteventura , then RU-vid reduces it to 4k
When you use a 360 camera for a time lapse - it's almost impossible to go back to using phone again. I use mine just for them, and occassionally quick videos if I'm not sure if I wanna use it as reel or video.
Just took this toy camera out of the bottom of my camera bag and blew the dust off to update the software and I am going to play with the settings and check on my phone app the quality and adjust before I record and give it another go. I have suffered from the blue screen freeze of death from day one out of the box I should have sent it back under warranty does anyone else charge the battery after use and leave it within the unit. Mine drains the battery so to keep it charged I pop it out but leave it within and fit the soft case

@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens I was influenced by some videos on youtube that actually only show the good things. I didn´t think it would be that great but I was going to use it mainly to livestream in 360. What I realized is that 360 broadcasts are absolutely unusable. The streaming quality is not even 1080p. Try it and you´ll see what I mean. Not many uses now for it as I can´t use the footage as B Rool to any of my cine cameras...Always learning 🙂
Hi! I'm a photographer too, and I'm on the fence fro buying my first 360 camera... Have you tried the 1 inch edition version? The quality seems to be much better but it's difficult to find an impartial review... I also think the X3 quality is a bit sub-par once you reframe, but i want to really see if the 1 inch is MUCH better... Cheers!

If I want to use an action camera in the water, playing on my jetski and/or boat, would you suggest the GoPro over the X3? It seems the X3 would give me more fun shots, but the ruggedness and float case GoPro has might make it the safer option?

Hello. Yes the camera has gyro data stored so you can use a third party software for stabilisation. The low light performance is not as good but similar to other action cameras. Just note that the noise is really visible because the output resolution is just 1080p. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
I disagree with u on 720p quality u can export to 422 u can export at 2k ,,problem with people who are go pro agnostic they will hate on insta 360 x3 ,most don't even update the firmware yet they rant how bad it is ,,the video quality isn't that worst as u try to make it look like set up your export quality ,set up the camera tweaks too ,,do another video when u have done manual setting ,put the quality sharpness to be low not high ,,have some sort of exploration before u rush to give a camera bad review,change iso etc u can tweak this camera how peter McKinnon get best short from it and u get worst shorts and he shot the videos when even the new firmware was not out tells us you are a RU-vidr who values clicks and emotional picked topics like talking how bad it is to push a view than rather making best use of the camera ,koz even the go pro and the likes that u praise have freeze and over heating issues that also other RU-vidrs have found which u haven't talked about 😂

Hello. Max is 4K but it really looks like an upscaled 4K from a lower resolution because the full 360deg video is just 5.7k - with both sensors together. Cheers!
My fucking device keeps giving me a blinking red light. It is working without a battery in it but once I turn it in the camera shuts down?! Also the SD card is being read accordingly so is my battery broken or what? I have only used it about 3 times(2 times for just a short duration)
Hello. There are two possibilities: one is that there is something preventing a proper connection of the battery (something in the way) and two that the battery is faulty. See what your saying but generally I think well lit 1080 is sufficiently good on RU-vid its not necessary to see the detail in leaves at the edges . I have the X3 and am thinking of the Insta 360 R1 but it's bulkier and not waterproof and almost double the price. so. if i could only afford one of either a hero 10 or insta360 x3 - for a trip - which one? also - saying the video is subar (not 4k) is too imprecise... how does the reframed video compare with, say, 1080p?
Hello. From the usability point of view the Insta is so much better but video will be better on the GoPro. At least the 4K. The 1080 depends on how much you zoom in when reframing.
