The second half of this is "The Ecstasy of Gold". Metallica uses the original Morricone track from the soundtrack as their intro music. A few years back, I saw them at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and they played the whole scene from the film while the music played. Standing against the front edge of the stage while the movie scene played on a 52-foot-tall screen while the music blares through a stadium filled with over 40,000 people in a rain shower??? ....That's how memories are made.
The lady who sang "wah wah", her name is tuva semmingson, a classically trained singer in her own right, she sings everything from opera to standards to pop. A diva of the 1st class. If you look closely, for this concert she was wearing little six shooter earrings. PERFECT!!!
If you ever live on the plains of the west for any time you would hear the coyotes cry at night ( the women choir ) and clap of thunder (slapping sticks) classic western movie sounds.
Only Sergio Leone could have made all that tension happen with so little. It didn't hurt that he had the Badassery of both Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef to work with.
I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to this. You absolutely should be proud. I can only hope that one day I will be able to hear them live though the probability is low because I live in north central Florida and even though we do have a proper concert hall it isn’t nearly as large as this orchestra and choir commands. Love and Peace ☮️💜☮️
I watched an interview with the two vocalists.Tuva Semmingsen AKA the Wa Wa Lady, as she has been called by the tube, actually likes being called the Wa Wa Lady. She couldn't believe how this performance took off on the tube. Christine Nonbo Andersen is the solo vocalist in the audience. This was her first performance with the Danish National Orchestra. Both ladies nailed their performances and added a stunning element to this Ennio Morricone masterpiece.
That guy you are talking about is Al Murdoch. He was in the movie Once Upon A Time In The West. He was in opening act where the 3 cowboys are waiting for Bronson to come to town. After the final take of the scene he goes back to Hotel in Italy and with full costume on jumps off the Hotel. Of course he dies for his injuries.
Ennio Morricone was one hell of a composer and that orchestra totally nailed it. Their performance sounded identical to the theatrical version we all know.
@bevoburn - he was, no question about it, while lookin at his career, from the early age. That guy was a genius. But, let's never forget about Edda Dell’Orso here. Nobody should.
@ted ritola It's actually my favorite movie ever. I am a _huge_ fan of the spaghettis in general, from the very worst to the very best. Even the lousy ones have incredible atmosphere. But _this_ one is the very best of the best. _Once Upon a Time in the West_ is a close second...and _The Big Gundown_ is probably the third for me as far as spaghettis go. Curious, if this is your number two, what is your number one? (Y'obviously have good taste.)
@@joelbizzell1386 I'd rate "The good the bad and the ugly" as the best western ever. However I must admit, I find "For a few dollars more" to be a more entertaining movie in terms of being re-watchable.
I was physically moved. I was right back at the movie. They nailed it hard. I’m so happy this is out here now for me to watch and listen over and over. I loved it beyond anything I’ve experienced
Funny parrot story (true). A woman owned this parrot and would allow it to sun on her porch. She went in the house for a moment and came out the parrot was gone. Under US Law parrots have to have a band on their leg to prove it was bred in the US, not imported. You have to have a vet certificate if it has to be removed. Someone located the parrot and they wound up in court. The judge claims there is no way to prove the parrot is hers since the band is gone. She says "Yes, your honor there is. He can whistle the entire theme song to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". She starts off and the parrot serenades the court. Judge gives back her parrot and the guy is found guilty of the theft.
Hello Jamal, I am a professional musician and I would like to demystify some of the instruments used in the video. The wooden flute is called a recorder, it can also be heard on "Stairway to Heaven". The odd looking, egg shaped instrument is an ocarina, or sweet potato. The percussionist is playing a slap stick, which is used to simulate the crack of a whip. Film music is full of these types of instruments and even more unusual ones. I hope this helps.
All correct! Just for Jamel - right when the music gets softer and the piano comes in, there was an English horn - one step bigger than an oboe - oboe was my major in college and I got to play English horn some as well.
Ennio Morricone was a composer of film soundtracks, where he used instruments and objects that are not normally used in an orchestral ensemble. Electric guitars, basses, ocarinas, bongos ... but also whips, gunshots, gusts of wind. Entering Morricone's work is a complete immersion. A moving tribute for fidelity down to the smallest details is what the Spaghetti Werstern Orchestra did to him.
Actually, my 16 year old son introduced me to the movie last year. A friend introduced it to him on a long car trip. He told me that the soundtrack was incredible. Interesting how stoked he was over the movie/soundtrack for his age. Since then, we often have Ennio Morricone music wafting through our home.
You put it so eloquently , I concur, Is this Why God has not wiped humanity of the face of the Earth just yet? Deus Vult my friend , we'll not meet here on this earth , but we 'll have a cold Guinness somewhere.
I have always been a words girl. Lyrics move me. They make me cry more often than I care to admit. But when that soprano came in, I was in tears. Over what? No words, just a sound. The unadorned beauty of her voice.
Seriously, check out their version of "Ecstasy of Gold" (also from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly") and hear that woman's voice in THAT song. Good choice, people!
Samurai jack had a cover of that song in season 5 called ecstasy of steel Note: was wrong. Its labled as the catacombs on the soundtrack which is on spotify
I was there, at the concert, and it was really really amazing! They took all the western classic themes and nailed them...all!! One of my friends plays third violin in the orchestra, told me that it was the most demanding concert to perform, in terms of equipment!!😀 Morricone had all sorts of equipment available, when he composed his music apparently.
You were so lucky to be there. I just recently stumbled onto this video and orchestra and man. Am I glad I did. Whoa. To have been there. I would have had so many years of joy. Those movies were a time in my life that will stay with me forever. To have it recreated by this orchestra in such a pinnacle performance is a dream worth living over and over. Thanks to you tube and the internet. I will always have it at my fingertips.
@@eb311235 I would put Ennio Morricone 's work in with Mozart or Bach any day . I cant imagine where a person would even begin to compose something like that
@@donwarrington4916 I like the way you make the comparison. Music written in say 1785 was the popular music of the day; we call it classical because it's old even if it's still played.
you get just an imagine of „handmade“ music 😂 with all the stuff off an orchestra it’s epic I love the internet to make it able to get the experience for all Love from Austria/Europe 🇦🇹
Love your respect for this great professional effort out of Denmark: what professionals can do when they go at it hard ! The conductor was sweating by the end. A great effort !
I get goosebumps every time I watch this. I never realized what it took to make the soundtrack. The music in the movie is so great that I bought the movie soundtrack cd album.
This inspires me with a great respect for orchestra musicians. They are so dedicated to their craft, but they know that they will never get the recognition of many solo artists. But, videos like this give them more of the recognition that they deserve.
this music is profoundly evocative , the rythm is that of a horse galloping , and in your mind you can see a cowboy , canyons , a far west scene - takes you back in time - it's music that shows scenes - your perfect reaction gives justice to this masterpiece , thankyou !
This is incredible to watch. So many instruments you almost never see in an orchestra. Ocarina, electric guitar, harmonica, tin whistles, waah-waah girls.
That thing with the boards is called a "slapstick". It's part of the percussion section in the category they call "toys". Things like that, the vibraslap, flexotone, wind chimes, shakers, and all that other stuff.
I've witnessed numerous reactions to the theme song of 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.' It begins on a somewhat lighthearted note, but then the atmosphere takes a profound shift. People are genuinely astounded by its excellence and distinctiveness. It engulfs you in a captivating journey, leaving you speechless, with only the mesmerizing journey and the remarkable SONG at the forefront of your thoughts.
I have been hooked on this music since the movies came out. I had an 8 track player in my 1967 Impala with speakers in the grill so everyone could hear me coming as I played this music.
You've been the only reactor to mention the guy hanging! Good eye! I noticed that right away and wondered why no one was mentioning it! Great reaction Jamel!
@@drakeequation521 That one is good too. I felt the chimes were slightly overdone. Of course, part of it was that my mom had the Fistful soundtrack. When I was a kid I would put it on the record player at night when I went to bed. So, I heard it a time or two. 😉
@@brettmanus7904 There was an emotional tie to those chimes if you remember. The colonel's sister was raped and murdered and her locket was taken by the brute.
When I was 19 years old, in 1969, driving in my Chevy Malibu from Houston to Arkansas, I had 3 eight-track tapes in my car. I put "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" in the player and listened to it for almost the entire 6 hour drive, frequently rewinding back to "The Ecstasy of Gold" to hear it again. The trip passed amazingly quickly.
so much talent. the waa waa lady, the so so serious violin player, the horn player with whale lungs and OMG the angel on balcony. just look at all the peoples eyes so into it so much talent!
I really like listening to music but I cannot even fathom the amount of skill & talent it takes to arrange something like this. Thanks for the reaction.
Amazing isnt it!! i was lucky enough to see the original composer Ennio Morricone with a full orchestra conducting a collection of his most well known film scores at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire before he passed away. An evening ill never forget.
