@@onixpanda13 There are plenty of completely sane serial killers that knew exactly what they are doing and that it was wrong and they did not care. However frontal lobe damage screws up reasoning, impulse control, feelings, outward emotions, all the things that make us different from other animals.

@@onixpanda13 According to the law a sane person is one who understands that they did wrong at the time of the crime and still committed it. You are completely right but in court none of that really matters. You can be nuttier than a squirrel but if you know what you're doing is wrong and you do it anyways, that's all that matters in the court. its definitely not completely fair or right but that's just how things are when it comes to the courts deciding on a sane or insane person. Understanding psychology is all well and good but knowledge of the law is what matters in these situations. The courts only care about specific time frames. The Dahmer case is a good example. He was obviously insane but none of that mattered to the judge who would not even consider an insanity plea.

Well it is little bit harsh to say that somebody deserves to die because they are unfortunate enough to have a defective brain. Not saying that makes it okay for them to kill, but in that case it is not entirely their fault.

Madeline Bell I know its harsh. And on some level i agree. But that do not change the fact what they did is wrong. For the relatives of the victim it dos not make it better (in most cases it even worse considering how brutal can some psychos be). Some wan who is not in the control of their action is a treat of its surrounding. If some wan died in an accident involving a faulty machine we would still blame the machine. Doing differently in this case makes for my no sense. (And please dont point out that humans are not machines and so comparing them is not correct. I sad it only tho show how different we react if there is not involved the question of our free will and responsibility.)

I kind of agree. No one will like this analogy, but we put down animals that attack and kill people, right? No questions asked, just put it down because it's dangerous. Why not the same for these kind of people who cannot be rehabilitated? They're just as much predators as wild animals, and more dangerous.

Bit of a slippery balance there. Do you punish them for the crime or acknowledge that it wasnt entireley their doing? Difficult to give a definite answer of such a contraversial and confusing psychological issue.

And some times write creepy letters to the children's parents afterward.
