I love David Walliams. His story with the reunion was touching. Makes you think how we take things for granted. This kid was thrilled with a thin cot and school.
Yeah, the boy seemed so sincerely happy to see him, made me cry. At the same time it was very sad to hear how his friends were left on the street and died :/
People who say women aren't funny are fucking stupid. This is coming from a 40 year old man who doesn't like people. I'm a loner and a homebody. TMI, but I don't give a shit.
@@usercarefree44 Must be comic relief merchandise? Polka dot pattern of red noses. I believe she said at the beginning she was wearing all - not just the silly glasses?
They build infrastructure, which in some of the African countries especially is hard, it's long term goals, not short wins. You can actually google where the money goes, there's a pdf of the finances and everything. Some high notes: Over 2 million people got access to healthcare over 147,000 were supported to grow their incomes and savings. Over 90,000 people got better toilets and sanitation. Over 64,000 people got clean drinking water. Over 189,000 children were supported to be in school. Over 34,000 women were supported to influence decisions affecting their lives. Over 45,000 workers improved working conditions. This was all in 2014-2015 The trick is to keep all of them there and get the infrastructure built so it doesn't collapse upon itself, that's where the cost comes into play. It's easy to build a well in some remote village, but to teach the villagers about how to keep the well clean and how to manage it takes longer and costs money. And that being said Africa especially is a very worn torn continent with plenty of civil wars, corruption and people in power that exploit other people, again building the infrastructure over time helps more than a quick win.
I KNOW, it's very interesting, (in a bad way), with the all the "fund" raising, you'd think every African, would be set up for life, and they are not!!!!!!!!!
Have any of you actually been to Africa? It _is_ improving. Incidence and fatality rates for malaria for example, are going down. You also probably have this half-image of Africa as mud huts and naked women or something from the movies when the reality is very different. With a few exceptions in war-torn, dictator-controlled, or hyper-religious areas, Africa is quite modernized. I mean, jeez, Nairobi has skyscrapers. The target of the relief programs like these are the truly depressed areas where poverty is extreme. And you can't fix that kind of thing overnight without fixing the causes which is usually political. But they do help immensely.
Chocolate Field watch the new black panther movie, I'm pretty sure there's people who would say Africa has flying cars and scientifically advanced than the rest of the world
Lentil & chickpea joke, hahahaha. Please though, no more Johnny Vegas, he just comes across as needy. Interrupting other guests just because you think you have something funnier to say is not cool.
This clip changed my attitude about David. Before, I always felt he was very egotistical. His charitable contributions are quite generous and remarkable.
with the last joke i thought he ment he'd pay for a chicken to pee on his chest, i didnt understand and it took me about 5 mins to realise he didnt mean that kind of chick
While I appreciate that it brings the plight of Africans to the Uk, No African has ever heard of Comic Relief or before that Band Aid, Live Aid so we are just throwing money at corrupt governments.
@Kim Smith Oooh are you so wrong. I'm married to a Nigerian and I'm also emigrating there next month to set up a free pre-school for local children in Abuja. I will also be employing locals and creating jobs and distributing free vegetables to the needy. I put my money where my mouth is. All at my own expense and if we are talking about age I'm 51. So please believe me, when I say that you putting a couple of quid in a collection box doesn't help anyone. And I'll be living in the bush, so no electric or running water or phone signal. Please don't try and tell me how Africans live.
@Kim Smith I appreciate your reply and I can only talk about Nigeria which I have visited many times, I'm sorry but you are totally deluded if you think the money gets to the people it's meant for. I'm sorry but that is a fact. You make yourself feel better by donating. At least I can sleep well at night knowing that I'm doing something to ACTUALLY help!
amazing story about philip in kisumu, that hug really gets you, this is what governments should be doing with our money, helping people, not blowing them up.
The Graham Norton Show is great, but was I the only one to remember the African economist James Shikwati? Google his interview: "For God's Sake, Please Stop the Aid!" (Spiegel).
Sadly what he says is true. It's no secret that the poorest african nations have the most corruption. There are many poor countries across the world but Africa has been the biggest recipient of foreign aid but has seen the least amount of development.
Jeffrey D. Sachs, a University professor and leading aid advocate, calls Shikwati’s findings “shockingly misguided” and “amazingly wrong.” adding that there are huge consequences for the poor with Shikwati's type of beliefs.
So so glad someone made the summitted joke because I was thinking it and laughed too hard at myself so knowing i wasn't the only one made it much better
Forgive this Canadian who doesn’t have a lot of exposure to Geordies but can someone pls put me out of my misery and translate for me?!? Also must say this is the easiest time I’ve ever had understanding Cheryl (enter current last name here) and I KNOW I’m not the only one who struggles with what she is saying sometimes!!
950 Million is almost 1 Billion, THAT'S A LOT so HOW MUCH IF THE MONEY got to tje people that needs it, or like most other "charity's" the money went to the middle man. What a shame on humankind né. Alway great to watch Graham's show, pity about assholes like david walliams
Clearly Covid lockdown was on this episode... these folks are blocks away from each other and all doing the same shows before and afterwards haha. Still love em.
Most of that money never reaches the people who need it, it gets stuck in the hands of corrupt bureaucrats. Instead of aid it's better to invest in these countries. That way you create jobs, provide much needed infrastructure and earn a tidy profit at the same time. Just giving away the money isn't going to help.
David is hit and miss. For me hes very strange with his comedy, there are some times I see him and I just can't stand him, then there are times where he is amazing and sharp and very good. I'm not a big fan due to the low times, but I do admit that I've seen some shows and stuff where he is just on point and funny and great. To me, he's an entertainer, not a comedian.
love Jennifer Saunders! she's beautiful and Cheryl is only there to be her toothpick! She needs to hook those bottls from her cake out between her teeth! AB FAB!
