Ollie is invited to participate in an off-road challenge but he still shows up dressed as if he is going to race in a cold Milano - San Remo! You can get Ollie off road, but you can't get the roadie off Ollie. 😂

@@gmbn I ride the EMTB about 45% my MTB 45% and eGravel about 10%. I blame Steve Jones for my purchase of my Trek Rail as I really liked that type of biking. LOL

This is really great, but how about also doing a bit of first-aid/rescue work simulation competition using e-bikes? 😁 For some reason, I can see more and more emergency services teams/trail staff adding e-bikes to their fleet, all to reach people in need faster.

Neil was always going to be able to make up time on the down hill dirt. His skills for cutting the corners and using the environment to his advantage will easily show up the roadies but loved Oli's little skids and giggles, he was having fun regardless. 😃

I am seeing a ton of them in Washington State. For the normal rider over 40yrs with a full time job and bike hobby, it means you can go further, faster, and up more elevation. If the point of riding is having an adventure in nature, then get an ebike.

I dont get why bikes are fitted with bolt on axles,I've never had a lever open accidentally ever...and tbh never an old school qr either. Faffing about with an allen key is a waste of time and effort. How short is the stem on Neil's bike then,is it a 10/20mm ? because most people run 40 anyway

For me a "bolt on axle" is a lot quicker than qr to install. Dont need to adjust disc brakes every time, and there is no way to put the wheel wrong. I've got a cheaper bike with QR, which had a lot of problems with putting the rear wheel straight. Also it has some problems with QR getting loose over time when riding a lot over bumps. It may be not the case for better bikes, but idk, I've never got one. So it could really be more a problem with bike quality than a QR system itself. But anyway im glad to have thru axle on my current bike, so I don't have to set up the brakes every time and don't need to check if the wheel sits tight like every half an hour xd Allen keys are always near in the garage where I keep the bike and have them in multitool while riding, so not a big deal to use them :)

@@jakubhuzior3999 agreed, although I would add that a QR system can also be quite flexible in comparison. Thru Axles are torsionally stiffer and better cope with braking loads from disc brakes. Even if QRs don't come loose, on bigger and more modern bikes with more powerful brakes would likely cause twisting and therefore brake rub and handling issues on QRs. Also the fact that hubs are wider nowadays to allow for a better brace angle, adding stiffness without adding weight is a no brainer.

@@elvislad ah, I get it now. So probably it's just cheaper, a bit less weight, and simplier. In most cases probably just cutting expenses for a bike manufacturer, and it's not so important for most buyers, even if it's a bit easier to use.
