Just finished your nuanced and beautiful Gatsby audio.. I read the book during high school (not for course work) when I read almost everything of Scott's. I've seen the films over the years too. I have to say, the novel never hit me as hard as it did today. It was a great experience to come back to Fitzgerald with such a remarkable reading. Thanks for doing it for us all.
Possibly the finest writing of the twentieth century. Beautiful use of the English language, many passages that so lyrical in the images they create that they verge on poetry, and incisive, acute observations of human behavior that are pin-point accurate. Stunning work. Very well read. Good work.
Of the original draught, the publisher complained that FSJ hadn't given a physical description of the main character. Zelda made some sketches of her idea of Gatsby for FSJ to work from. We can just imagine that these drawings are lying in an attic somewhere and what they'd be worth.
Sometimes when you read something really you feel like you do know someone. I’ve always felt that way about Gatsby. Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. Means a lot to me.
Reading this for school and I was having some trouble with it, having to go back reread things multiple times, but reading along with your voice helps comprehension a lot for some reason!
This is the best way to introduce reading as an activity to anyone. Every time I decide I need to read a classic I decide to find it first in an audio book and l may listen to it entirely but I find myself locating the same book in my local bookstore; I buy it and read it. I discover so much more TBE second go around. Thank you for this one and it'll be my next book to buy and read.
@@nolanreads... Not only was this a fantastic read but it has made people think comment and argue the points, motivations and epilogue of the story which has been ongoing since its release. That alone says something about the novel.
@@nolanreads... Another great author to read is Harold Robins. I met Mr. Robins several times in NY while on a commercial diving job. He was a writer who wrote as a spectator and person in the frey. He wanted to dawn the deep diving suit we were wearing and I wouldn't let him as the lead diver we / I could be held liable if he drown. Neverthel; he persisted for a week or two and hung out on our crew boat a few evenings drinking Rum, Southern Comfort and what ever else was on the boat. He passed on a few years later I understand but he was quite the character. Women who asked for autographs and claimed they loved the book. He'd quiz them about the book and really hammer them if they really hadn't. Lol.
Your narration is flawless. I’m one chapter away from the end, but I keep going back and listening to previous chapters, as I don’t want it to be over. Thank you for this, it’s such a pleasure to listen to.
I have to read this for my English Honors class and do a report on it. Ive always had a hard time focusing on stories, especially ones written in old English, but most audio books just arent that good or cost money. This one is fantastic and free. I thank you so much for this ❤
Not familiar with many other audiobooks, but i like that when you read dialogue, you still use a very similar voice to your narration one, but only slightly different. It's just enough for my brain to understand that a different character is speaking, but without sounding cartoonish or over the top. Very well done.
I disagree (Nick's character had two women "on the line", the one back home and the golfer), but I think the way that Fitzgerald describes Buchanan starting about 11:20, I think Fitzgerald was a closeted gay or bi. Effeminate swank, riding clothes hiding a powerful and cruel body, straining the top lacing of the glistening boots, a pack of muscle shifting. All that just screams gay to me, but in Fitzgerald's era I don't think people saw that as revealing as it was, certainly Fitzgerald didn't or he'd not have publicly said that.
I love the way you speak different people discussions in a way that separates it from the rest of the text. Also provides more context to the story in the easiest way possible to follow. Thanks for saving all of us students who are reading this for school.
You are very quickly becoming my favourite creator on RU-vid. There is something so pleasant and soothing about your voice. Perfect for listening to for hours while crocheting or embroidering. Thank you so much for all the effort and hard work.
It brings me a lot of joy to read comments like this, and more to know that these recordings are useful to those seeking a little respite in a busy world. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I have always wanted to read it, but never got the time to sit with a book for over 4-5 hours. I can listen to this while working or doing chores etc. Thank you!
Holy crap. 25 years of reading this book and it finally hit me. Selling grain alcohol in a drug store was totally legal in prohibition. It was a loophole. Meanwhile Tom’s been serving gin and whiskey (probably imported) and beer (definitely imported). Jay Gatsby was a legitimate businessman.
Wow, the fact that your voice has been made to sound like it comes from a radio in 1:20:35 says something about the amount of effort but into reading and making these audiobooks(I won't even start to praise you by saying how naturally well you read). Really wow!
This is so so so good. I love the tone and expression of your voice. As someone who absolutely loves to read but often has trouble focusing and therefore is a very slow reader, I thank you from the bottom of my heart
I was just looking for any random audiobook and this video appeared, I never thought about reading this book but my oh my you have such a soothing voice! I’m definitely starting this one, thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much for this recording. Your honey-smooth voice perfectly encapsulated the fondness Nick had for Gatsby. 🥰 It was wonderful to revisit this story 15 years post high school.
@@nolanreads...Please do. So many are unlistenable because of an annoying voice, mispronunciations, bad pacing or robotic voice. I don't know how hard this was but you make it natural and perfect listening.😎☕🦩💕🥁
Thanks for the idea! It's a pretty humble setup, but I'm lucky to have a Sennheiser mk416 to record with. If you're interested in that sort of content I would strongly recommend checking out @BoothJunkie or @VOTECHGURU here on youtube - both great channels that helped me get started recording. Couldn't have made these audiobooks without their videos.
Thank you so much for this. Subbed and will keep up with your other readings hopefully. Enjoyed your expressiveness and your voice is great for reading!
i enjoy the subtle but constant use of pathetic fallacy throughout the entire book. really nice! thank you for reading this. had is at 1.75x speed the entire time
This is a fantastic recording. there are a few glitched, repeated lines throughout, but I only noticed them because i was so engrossed in your recording. i finally feel like I "GET" this book after hearing you read it. Thanks a million, and best of luck for your future
Thank you so much. That's such a wonderful compliment. Thanks for listening through despite the little errors! Unfortunately I can't go back and fix mistakes - but if I post this other places I will be sure to do so.
I love all the little voice inflections you make you really make the story and characters come to life. Please keep creating more content you are very very talented!
I was happy to view your channel and was mesmerised by your voice !!! I have also bought 3 books already to hear your performance !🦋 Thank you for sharing your creativity through your RU-vid channel !🙌🥰
If i ever finish my book I know who to turn to! Okay okay, but besides that, this is amazing! I had trouble starting the book myself :( but this audiobook saved me! It was nice to listen to. So thank you so so much!!
You have actually helped so much!! I love when people truly get into character when reading because it helps me visualize and understand the characters a lot more. Ty for your hard work 🫡🫡
3:43:45 just as a heads up, you made an editing mistake. i love your narration and you’re one of my favorite audiobook readers now. keep up the great work!
Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately once the video is published there isn't any way to adjust mistakes without removing and re-uploading the video. I'm glad you enjoyed the work despite the error.
Thank you so much ❤ I finished The Catcher in the Rye in a day (sped up) and I was so completely charmed by your narration and voice Gatsby is my absolute favorite (after Jane Eyre shh) and this is going to be such a treat, talk about a good swoon. Can you have a crush on someone over their voice? In your mid 20s? Embarrassing for me, but hopefully it makes your day to know 😂 But in all seriousness, some of the best quality narration I’ve come across. And for free??? Are you mad??? Thank you, and please please think of this as a career if you haven’t already. Absolutely well deserved
It does make my day to know! So glad you’re enjoying these. I started recording around 4 years ago when I was 27, so a very close guess. Currently I am transitioning to doing full time voiceover work after leaving academia. Having listeners like you who take the time to be so supportive is a huge help. So thank you so so much. I hope you enjoy this one as much as Catcher!
