Here's another grown ass 69 year old man in the midst of crying, what is it that does that to us. Very powerful, almost spiritual experience. Pink Floyd, was into them with Umaguma, and A Nice Pair, before anyone heard Dark Side of The Moon.
I am a vocalist with opera training....I have been a singer my whole life and still today. I have spent the last 2 hours listening to every other female back up vocalist for Pink Floyd including Clare Torry the original vocalist for Great Gig In The Sky and in my professional estimation Brit Floyd NAILS IT to the sky with vocal skill far surpassing that of any other. A full range of vocal gymnastic talent heaving with emotion...when my body is covered in shivers after hearing her first few notes you know the ultimate decision has been made.....I LOVE her passion!
Under the situation that Torry was put under recording the original. I don't think anyone could have done it better. She was told to make a track using no words. This was over 40 years ago.
clare torry improvised it, off the top of her head at a moments notice. the lady in this video is great , but she was just recreating something which had already been laid out and probably spent countless hours memorising it and practising before the performance.
I just got chills thinking about the situation Clare Torry was in, she tapped into some deep deep feelings of sorrow , hurt, longing and regret. Every time I listen to this song the damn dirt get in my eyes and uh you know the rest!:)
I saw Brit Floyd last night. This is one I was looking forward to hearing. SHE WAS PHENOMENAL!!! BEST I'VE EVER HEARD DO THIS!! Not only did I get goosebumps, but I started to cry. For me, it was a religious experience. It was THAT GOOD. Cheers to the lovely singer.
Not done in a studio with all the advantages that provides. This is raw. Here and now. Unadulterated, unpolished. Note perfect. Claire Torry set the bar. This lady jumped it.
Ola Bienkowska, she was BORN to sing this song!! She does the most incredibly amazing, melodically pleasing version to the ear - she's a TRUE tribute to the original vocalist who invented this enchanting singing piece, Clare Torry. A stunningly gorgeous, absolutely angelic performance!! She can transport you straight to the divine heavens!! Bravo Ola, magnificent!! Much LOVE to you!
i saw her perform this a few years back just before she left to give birth....this was the one song i was waiting for.and she didnt let me down .gave me goosebumps.........not very often in a live concert do you see a standing ovation before show ends..........but that night at Rama i was witness to one
I wasn't sure if I would like this because I thought nobody would match Clare Torry, but she absolutely nails it. And the audience loved her performance. Totally echoing your opinion, Jessica H!
« And I am not frightened of dying. Any time will do; I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it! ....you've gotta go sometime.... »
Better to go later than sooner because "life is precious" Apreciate each and every day from sunrise to sunset and into the moonlight above Life is a brief sliver of time into the light & love And in between the darkness of the before and after
For the original album, Claire Torry - who was invited in to sing "The Great Gig In The Sky" totally improvised the whole performance ! Yes that's right - she was instructed to just do whatever came to her mind as she went along ! The result could / should have been chaotic, but as it turned out actually has a melodious tune that has a structure to it ! Quite astonishing when you think on it.
We saw this performed last night in Providence RI, April 5th 2016. She received a long standing ovation after her singing part. It was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, Brit Floyd also announced that last night was her final night with them as she is pregnant and is going to become a mother. I don't know if they meant final forever, or for a while, but I am so very happy I got to hear her sing this part last night. Incredible performance!
+Kenneth Orabone I'm sure it won't be Ola's final performance with Brit Floyd, just the last one for a while, as Ola is indeed about to become a mother for the first time
+Kenneth Orabone I had the good fortune to be there last night too, and maybe like you I could feel the warmth coming from the audience towards her when they made the announcement. As far as I heard, she's leaving for an indefinite time. With how tough it must be to tour almost continuously like they do, with a newborn added in it seems to me like "indefinite" might be a long time at best. I've seen Brit Floyd quite a few times, and feel lucky to have been able to see her perform.
I was fortunate, too, to see her just a week before you in Indianapolis with my Lady Friend. We loved the show so much we rounded up four more friends and saw them again last week in Louisville! Alas, it was a different beautiful lady singing the Great Gig, but no less awesome! They are going to be in Ohio soon. I might just do it again! Awesome show.
That's the point of the song. The album was an exploration of birth, life, and death. This song was the death part. It's either what you hear in heaven or in hell, depending on how you hear it.
The soloist on this cover by Brit Floyd is Ola Bienkowska. Other soloists who have performed this song with Brit Floyd are Angela Cervantes and Eva Avila. Stunning performance of a Pink Floyd classic, indeed.
@@conanhayle Clare Torry's original vocal was composed spontaneously and recorded in one take. This woman does a wonderful job, but has had much time to perfect her performance. I think the original is better, but to each his own.
I disagree. Someone not even remotely close to any kind of music would also respond to this. And that's actually what makes this - and the original recording of course - so great.
Why is it that I keep getting older but this doesn't. I originally got the album in '74. Never grow tired of it. So glad you guys hit the mark and are passing it on to younger generations. Yep, the Floyd will never die.
When she started singing this during their show at Manchester...The whole arena burst into cheers, applause and so on. In other words, we were all VERY impressed.
Saw this group last night for free on the Main Grandstand.7/25/2013 California Mid-State Fair. Her solo lasted 3 times as long and the Band played for 3 hours. She had the entire crowd on our feet cheering. What an incredible voice. Like one comment says," She told the most beautiful story I've ever heard without speaking a word.
One of the best performances ever! I heard many singers performing this song but this is the most emotional one for me. I can't stop listenin' to her. I really enjoy!! She speaks without words...
Buon pomeriggio.
For some reason I never got to fully comprehend the meaning of this song but her unbelievable performance showed me what it’s really about and it just made appreciate this song even more.
she is superb..exquisitely performed. I imagine if we could hear.the angels singing in heaven they would.sound like this.***one of the finest covers ever.thanks..
This wonderful womens voice speaks for us all in the face of a planet of daily confusion, it’s a Prayer directly from a divine source, it allows us to be part of something of such beauty.....rising so high above words...
Such pure passion ! The very finest performance of this Torry Original that exists to this day and well into the future. Stunning professional and with such passion and emotion, genuine heart-breaking piece, I have never been so affected by such,.........such a beautiful woman, exceptionally talented and born to do this Classic. I have been a Floyd, deep rooted fan for 55 years and know every note and tune all of them have ever done, personally met Waters and have gone to many shows. My two (now adult) children are Musicians, My Son a Guitarist and drummer, My Daughter a woodwind dynamic. Both well educated and started out at aged 5-7 yrs. old. My Heart is so warmly pricked by such highly charged and engaging performances, One of the comments here states that they want this played at their funeral when he/she dies,....having given it thought,......I also would ! A absolutely perfect piece to finalize ones life, yet,.......perfect also when a woman gives birth and is dazzled in glory holding a newborn,......I am a grown Man, and I cried when I listened and watched this bit,......! Dazzling, spectacular, heartfelt, to the core. A truly touching and well mastered Masterpiece !!!
Just saw these guys last night in Peterborough Ontario Canada. Front row. Saw Eva Ávila perform her rendition. Was blown away. She was also a Canadian idol winner. I don't know what they feed their singers in Quebec but holy crap, they sure churn out some amazing vocalists.
Absolutely hand-down the best rendition of this song I've ever heard. I never thought a tribute band would be able to stand a chance of bettering the original, but this young lady smashed it right out of the park.
She has the smoothest version of all and does it constantly night after night. My photo is from a Floyd concert, seen 28, including Brit Floyd. She was amazing live!
this is the first time i ever heard one very talented singer nail this peace of music/lyrics/solo normaly its shared between three singers even in pink floyd and so close to the original if not as the record im in greatful chock and appresiation of that version so so beautiful thank you for being so professional loved it and will hear it many times in the years to come great work guys yeehaa
I love seeing these incredible women singers try to take on this song. Respect babe! Great work. Saw the Aussie Floyd last year and they actually had Durga McBroom touring with them. Wow. She's still got it from her days of touring with THE FLOYD. I am so happy that we have the Brit Floyd and the Aussie Floyd out there letting me relive my love of the Floyd. These are no mere pretenders. Respect.
Why do I watch this? Why don't I just watch Pink Floyd?... The real thing.. Well, I don't have a clue, but I do watch it, and absolutly love it.. This woman's voice, so moving! Like the black woman in the Brit Floyd's cover of mother! Sensational!! Will keep watching Brit Floyd as well as Pink Floyd! Floyd's music lives on. Wonderful!
She sent chills up and down my spine when I saw/heard her perform in Pensacola. When I hear The Great Gig, I hear it as a representation of life rising to a crescendo at it's prime before fading toward the end to our final breath.
I have seen Pink Floyd twice and Rodger Waters 3 times. I have also seen Aussie Floyd 3 times and I am now heading down to see Brit Floyd for the first time Tuesday night 11 / 14 / 17. Rock on my friends . You can never get enough Pink Floyd .
Absolutely fantastic! This always brings tears to my eyes it's so powerful!! She sings it PERFECT and I wish I could see them live but can't :( The band is awesome and a great tribute to Pink Floyd.
There are some brilliant songs, some great songs and then there is a category way above them all. This song is a masterpiece and the cover is a masterpiece 😎👌
I saw a band doing a Floyd tribute in St Petersburg, Fl, and the woman who sang this part was incredible, as well. After they were done, I made a point of telling that woman how incredible she was. I am not taking anything away from this performance, by any means. This was surreal and beautiful.
FREAKING AMAZING.... The sincerest form of flattery is honing your skill and paying tribute to where it shines almost as bright as the original -- and they definitely hit the mark here. Outstanding....!
Not just tears in my eyes for me... tried to control them; but, overflowed & were streeaming down my cheeks to my neck... At first was suprised & then embarassed that I had been reduced to tears (in public)at a concert.
