This is the greatest 4:54 minutes on the Internet. I can only assume that the 478 dislikes can be attributed to people getting weak in the knees and accidentally clicking the wrong icon.
MrDirtBaggins I got chills, they're multiplying, And I'm losing control. For the power you're supplying..... It's electrifying........Very tentative..!! :-)
@@jwan2612 I'm still learning myself...but what I can say to you is, do the right thing by you and yours. Never give up on what you're passionate about. Be you!!! ✌
I told my son I want it at my wake.. My son died from o.d last year less than a yr ago. He was gonna see to it also. No child should die b4 their parent God I miss you Mikey my son... in heaven..
I'm a 66 italian old woman and listening to this song is like the sound of a life, with happynes and then sadness at the same time Now it's almost all finished
I appreciate the vocals in this and the original version as much as anybody, but I think what gets underappreciated is Richard Wright's beautiful, unique, and haunting piano arrangement.
Gilmore always remarked about Richard's contribution to the band He wrote "Us and Them" and co-wrote other lyrics too. His organ and piano parts, well the songs just wouldn't be right without them. I always felt he was underappreciated. David loved him dearly.
The Great Gig In The Sky "AND I AM NOT FRIGHTENED OF DYING, ANY TIME WILL DO, I DONT MIND. WHY SHOULD I BE FRIGHTENED OF DYING? THERES NO REASON FOR IT, YOUVE GOTTA GO SOMETIME." *"IF YOU CAN HEAR THIS WHISPERING YOU ARE DYING." "I NEVER SAID I WAS FRIGHTENED OF DYING." El Gran Espectáculo En El Cielo "Y NO LE TENGO MIEDO A LA MUERTE, EN CUALQUIER MOMENTO LLEGARÁ, NO ME IMPORTA. ¿POR QUÉ DEBERÍA TENERLE MIEDO A LA MUERTE? NO HAY RAZÓN PARA ELLO, TENDRÁS QUE IR ALGUNA VEZ". *"SI PUEDES OIR ESTE SUSURRO ES QUE TE ESTÁS MURIENDO." "NUNCA DIRÉ QUE LE TENGO MIEDO A LA MUERTE."
Being Pink Floyd fan for over 40 years and therefore very picky about tribute bands and especially with songs like these, I can only say: What an outstanding performance! You made my old eyes water and until now only Clare Torry could do that. Rick would certainly have been pleased with this!
I can't count how many times I've listened to, and WATCHED, these two ladies sing like angels. The hair on my arms is literally standing on end and I can feel it inside. NO WORDS can describe what I just heard. Wow. Just wow.
c Countless times and never get tired of Ola. Tory is old and didn't have the cardio these girls have. Live music is usually at a quicker tempo just because it's the way it goes, if you were ever in a live band you would know.
I did not like this song when I first discovered DSOM. 20 years ago. But certain songs grew on me over the years. This one for sure. I didn't even like money outside of the quick quip lyrics. I love em both these days. It just took TIME--LOL
Who almost cried at 2:08 because WOW WOW WOW. That hit so hard. This has got to be one of the best performances of this song. SO powerful and full with feel and not to mention how close the notes hit are similar to those in the original version. Hats off to all of the performers.
This is the most beautifully played & sung song anyone could possibly have played at their own Epitaph ever . I will have it played at mine ,when it's time ! T Y , Pink Floyd .
I sad, I would like this song at my funeral.... That 's is my only wish, no floweers, no priest, only my loveing Floyd, playing The Great Gige on the sky..........
+madmick17 only 50? I think i went thru at least two weeks of continuous play. and only then figured out the lyrics in the beginning. No end in sight either.
+madmick17 Wow. Just WOW. Don't know what else to say. If I were younger, and single, I'd sure like to get to know one of those ladies. It might be hard to decide which one. Again, wow!
There is a you tube video of Clare Tory explaining how this came to be. It appears she walked right into the studio with no knowledge of What Pink Floyd wanted and they told her that it couldn't involve words. She only did two takes of it and the producers wanted more but she said her first version couldn't be surpassed and she left thinking they wouldn't even use it. She was surprised when she was on the song and they used her first take. I thought about that awhile and it still amazes me that the human spirit is and/or can be so creative. This song to me and most others is all about death but its also about what leads up to death. Her voice and the voices used after her are about the anguish that comes knowing you are dying and accepting all be it reluctantly. What raises the human spirit in this song is that it can be so creative as to transfer words (Or sounds if you will) to simply pure emotion. After listening to this, is there really ANYTHING you can say in the written word that would illustrate this any better? I think not!
That is correct. The very first one was "the one". And she made 30 pounds for the job, during the summer 1972. Later, in 2005, she sued Pink Floyd and the record company to be granted as a co-author. She won and they gave her 10 million dollars, good enough for her deserved retirement.
Escuché lo mismo.. tenía que cantar algo que expresara el dolor ante la muerte... una maravilla lo que logró.. o lograron.. también la música inspira...
The song is about death. The woman is using her voice as a musical instrument to convey emotion. Listen to the original. No words need be said. You get it or you don't.
My life is better after hearing this. I believe this performance could stop wars. Super talented lady to be able to sing this. Probably the hardest 'song' to reproduce
I guess she was touring with Australian Pink Floyd ? If so they came around here, but I blew them off because of the price of admission. It was a lot for a cover band, so I was thinking, but after seeing this I might have been remiss.
Me too. Choked me right the hell up, watching such commitment by Ola and Amy. I can think of no bigger shoes to fill if you're going to try and cover someone else's One Shining Moment performance one evening in a studio in London. Clare dug deep to invent this. She deserves the co-writing credit in every way. These women paid homage magnificently. Magnificently.
Some of the very little amount of music that can literally reach directly into you and grasp your soul and pump it back to life. Music unlike anything else in this world.
These musicians are not imitators -- they are "ghosts" of the essence of the real Pink Floyd. That Ola Bieńkowska is simply amazing and must have studied Clare Torry's performance beyond what many before her did. She was probably not even born when "Dark Side of the Moon" was released by Pink Floyd. She deserves the applause. Bianca Antoinette does come very close to perfection here as well. But correct me if I am wrong....on the original "Great Gig In the Sky" Clare Torry sang all the parts. There weren't two vocalists. Many times in these performances, it's always two female vocalists sharing the chores. If I am right, then Clare Torry is an unbelievable artist. I will admit -- this live performance by these two women and the band, is beyond just excellent. Very impressive.
Clare did indeed sing all the parts. She was amazing. and still is. Unbelievable vocal range but she was a session singer then and paid very poorly for it. Although she did receive huge royalties when the song became PF's greatest. She was unassuming , in the early 70's, and understandably miffed when DSOTM went meteoric ...and eventually got what she deserved. She is still the greatest singer of this in my mind....much s I love the later versions..
Just listened again ... Clare Torry was an absolute genius! Those vocals!! She just improvised for PF. Her voice the perfect instrument to complement PF, and The Australian Pink Floyd Show have absolutely nailed it!! Brilliant performance! xxx
they had multiple artist tour with them they are all amazing ide like to see mariah or janet or any other of them beside Christina she might be able to pull this off
Can anyone help me please? English is my first language and, I believe, I have a fairly expansive vocabulary. I cannot, however, come up with a word to describe that performance. Mesmerising. Incredible. Phenomenal. Nothing seems to come close. Anyone..?
Imagine being married to one of these ladies and she stood on an upturned plug in the middle of the night. Jesus wept, the noise would split your eardrums.
This is without a doubt (100%) the best version of this song live anywhere to be found!! Close your eyes and listen too the original album cut and do the same to this live version. Musically, as good as it gets on this planet with call earth. Peace!
Those are the most beautiful lyrics ever written! It's amazing how no words were needed to convey this song. The emotional impact is all over the place; highs, lows, happiness, sorrow, pleasure and pain, etc. It's absolutely beautiful!
I've always loved Pink Floyd's unique style of music. This band and the two women my have just done a better "live version than Pink Floyd's ever done....like everyone else it brought tears to my eyes, gave me chills and I can't stop watching it. Still searching for a word worthy of describing this piece
Torry set the bar, Bianca Antoinette came close... Ola Bieńkowska and Amy Smith NAILED IT! What was Rachael Fury ???? Chopped Liver ? She did the," Delicate Sound of Thunder" tour .
João Gabriel What guitar? It did sound like the singer threw a few notes in that descending lick but the vocals on this are pretty freeform, the whole idea of Great Goig
Considero que esta canción, especialmente esta parte "The Great Gig" tiene poderes, me trasporta al espacio y difícilmente el querer retornar. Bellísima interpretación.
Jesus Christ! They drove it home with AUTHORITY! I didn't think anyone could get that close - Clare's shoes are big ones and hard to fill. How each of them found the emotion to pull that off is quite something, isn't it? It was so beautiful it made me choke up and brought tears to my eyes. Well done, Ola! Well done, Amy!
