Tony and the Team climb a remote Herefordshire hill to investigate one of the biggest prehistoric sites ever featured on Time Team. Was Dinmore Hill the site of a vast Iron Age hill fort? Needless to say Stewart doesn't think so. He is going with a much earlier cross-ridge dyke. To prove it one way or the other they need dateable finds.

When British archaeologists examine areas with rivers, they should always remember the influence of beaver, which had been everywhere but were removed only recently, meaning water would have been concentrated in massive, stepped ponds. The river could've been a giant moat around the hill.

You're so right! The Eurasian beaver went extinct in the early 1500s and was only reintroduced in 2009 in Scotland.

Love these shows, but I’m always struck by the assumption that things have to have been done by lots of people. We often neglect to respect the sheer time, let alone dedication, that our ancestors had and could very often display.

I dont understand how to read the geophysical reports, I guess... ive watched probably 30 tt episodes and could never quite see what they saw. Mostly bits and spots of shadows. Then at the beginning when John showed Tony the report I could clearly see the line but according to John, it wasn't very good. 😅

It seems the massive ditch could also have served as a quarry for stone for the settlement.

Sir Tony... "I don't want to be too negative, but...". That is how he ALWAYS is. Negative and complaining that it is taking the professional archeologists too long to find evidence. Professionals know many times you find nothing during a dig. I take my hat off to Mick, Francis and Phil who go out of their way to painstakingly explain to Sir Anthony what they are seeking and how they may find it. They are highly educated and professional in what they do. I have learned a lot as they explain things.
@RevantuZ
@RevantuZ 2 года назад
I think he purposefully talks as a sort of devil's advocate/sceptic as a way of making the interviewees explain exactly why they think what they do, for the benefit of the audience at home.
@lizzy66125

thats what Tony was for,a link between the team and the public.he purposefully asks these questions.he knows a lot about archeology...
@jrmckim
@jrmckim Год назад
That's part of the show... he makes these highly intelligent and professional people explain exactly what is going on. All those questions are for to understand what is happening. Also it builds suspense in the viewers.. keeps us guessing.
