Boxing Supraves actually my 1600m was 5:10 my 3200 was 11:12 my 800m was 2:22 and my 1200m was a 3:44. That’s what I hope are good times for a freshman
Boxing Supraves I’m a distance runner. My 1600m isn’t the best but this is my first year of track. And I did XC in the fall and made varsity getting sub 19 and 18s. And I’m making fast progress towards a sub 5 mile. I think I should be fine
BEM GANG IKR! people tell me all the time that the 800m is just you jogging! And I cannot stress enough how tough of a. Race it truly is! Not only are you carrying the lactic acid from the first lap, but you have to sprint the last 200m! And it hurts so bad! The 800m training is rough too, you basically train for everything! Endurance, speed, mileage, and weight training!
Rae Marie in high school my PR was 1:56.8 in the 800 & 48.1 in the 400. I can truly say that it was more painful running the 800 over the 400 and that was back in 2006. Like you mention, lactic acid building up and the push at the end that is basically arm strength getting you through the race when your legs feel numb. The 400 is great also but is simple at sprint turn, coast to last 250 then all out. The 800 that’s more thought than that. Still my most favorite race even though it’s not hyped like shorter races. And higher levels make the 800 a full out sprint when sub 1:52 down to 1:40s
Effort was impressive but the splits and pacing made them look like a bunch of wild animals. All of them are super talented and can run faster times if they split more evenly
OG!! You must have fallen out of your seat seeing those times pop up on the screen. DAMN. But ay you cold too my PR was only 2:12. I was a bowler, though. Put me in a bowling alley, and I was damn near you lol. Cheers dawg!
Jason W that’s so accurate. I used to rate my performance not on time, but how hard it was to breath for the next hour. Even if my time wasn’t the greatest, if I was coughing up a storm I knew I did what I could. To this day I can do a horrible hacking cough on command thanks to middistance track.
@@jessicaroskelley6147 my coach had me double the 4x800 and the 800m at the championship 3 days ago. I was able to pr back to back, it was great but my body aches and I have been coughing a ton
Same here. I was a 200/400 sprinter in high school and college. Decided to jump in an out of town all-comers meet to try a 800. Went out in 67.5 and DIED DIED last lap. Never did another. To me, TRULY the toughest race in T and F.
@@Zmad724 No man. Different people run differently. Some set a good pace and maintain. Some start strong and hang on. Some like Hunter gradually increase the pace and leave a devastating kick in the end.
Play by play of what would happen if I was in this race. - Start off at 65 second pace - Fall behind everyone else - Realize I'm getting smoked and need to step it up. - Die at 87 meters
"The Greatest High School 800m Race" annually is in Kenya. This year the Kenyan schools championships had 2 guys at 1.46 and numerous under 1.50. The Kenyan junior record is 1.42.53 by Timothy Kitum, he was 17 at the time.
"Rudisha Breaks World Record - Men's 800m Final | London 2012" is the one to watch if you have doubts RUDISHA (23) 1:40.91 AMOS (18) 1:41.73 KITUM (17) 1:42.53
I know and they were doing great. Nevertheless, this thread was about Timothy Kitum. (Who was 17 when he won the bronze at the London Olympics.) Bullshit was called, hence my response. No offence meant, especially for the sportsmen featuring this video.
Problem is that it is bullshit he was actually 17 at the time, since then where has he been, if you do some research it is quite astonishing how many east africans lie about their age so much. Doesn't overally matter though as he was running at a senior level
Mason Pachulski My school is not very fast but they have to send people to regions so I have to race against guys like these who run a 1:48 and I run a 2:14 PR so thats exactly what I look like
I ran 400 meters in high school and the best time I ever got was just under 53 seconds. During training I tried the 800 a number of times. I only got under 2 minutes once (just barely at 1:59) and I promptly threw up and completely cramped up. It's hard to put into words just how impressive these kids runs were with three runners under 1:50.
Like my dad always told me... Stay a little bit behind on the first lap and then go all out on the last lap since after the first lap of going all out would tear you up before finishing.
NO ONE at the world class level runs the 800 the way your dad advises. But then, you're dad isn't a world class runner and doesn't know what he's talking about.
Hmmm, you cannot generalise that though. It depends on yourself, whether or not you have strong final sprint, and on the field. Experienced athletes won't run all out and discover they cannot go on anymore. I myself have to go all out on an 800m for on the last 200m I can no longer accelerate, but I am able to keep up my pace
Watch a video of Dave Wottle at the 1972 Olympics. Each runners different, some run from the front and try to burn the kickers, some run from the back and rely on blazing speed last 100
I won a state all schools title in Victoria at 12 yo 2:18.9 and when I was like 15 in high school I grew heaps came like 5th at state running 2:07 winner was like 2:02 so I'm finding it hard to believe the last place highschool runner in this event runs 1:52? How old are these kids?
+bigbillwaltonsacidheads You Can't Just Say There Not On Pace Dumb Ass There 5 Seconds Off Pace In Highschool... They just got to keep working its there dream
@@colten7525 you just keep practicing and try to run faster then you did last time. I'm an 8th grader an ran a 2:26 800 meter and came third place. That was my 4th meet too. My first ever 800m was 2:54 then the 2nd was 2:37 then my 3rd one was 2:29. My last one today i only improved my 3 seconds at a time of 2:26.
I thought your title might be bogus but it provewd to be right on. Yes, it was a great race for and especially for young guys. Thanks for the upload and for not revealing the results in your title.
That wasn't a US number one. Sean Torpy of Sandburg High School in Illinois ran a leading mark of 1:47.95 at the US Army Midwest Distance Classic on June 11th.
That guy who led and went thru the 400 in 51 seconds can probably go faster just by evening up his pace a bit, if he doesn't have traffic around him to worry about. Usually 1 second on the front half is 2 seconds off the back half, so if his splits were 51/57 he could probably go 53/53 and run 1:46. Save it for college.
Running negative splits is his way of running, how do you think the 400m world record was set? The dude sprinted the first 300m then maintained form the last 100m. Same thing for this 800. If the guy tried to have even splits he would have ran much slower.
Insane that high schoolers are running sub 1:50. Mid distance and cross country is getting huge and the times that many are running keep getting better and better.
Yup.. back when I was in high school. I ran the 200, 400, 800, 1500.. then towards Junior and senior year I focused primarily on the 400, 800... One meet. I ran the open 4x800, 800m and 4x400. Miss racing on the track
You used the adjective”ever” in the title. I always get leery when I see the word “ever” in the title. But in this case, I think you are absolutely right. This may have been the greatest High school 800 m run ever!
did you get there? sounds a bit ambitious (what am I saying, I went from a 2:13 to 2:00 freshman to sophomore year). I ran sub-1:56 junior year and am going for low 1:50s this upcoming season
How the hell are they doing 1:48 on 800m!! I’m not a runner exactly, I do triathlon and to qualify I have to do 1 km my best time is 3:19! That must be like a 2:50 at most! Jesus this guys are insane!
bombbrain1 at 1:49 when they are running the final stretch the leader takes a quick look behind him and then starts drifting to his right out of lane 1 and blocks the runner/s from passing in lane 2. One of the runners uses this as an opportunity to try to pass on the inside and the other runner is forced to stray further right to pass.
One of the craziest parts of this video in my opinion is that none of these guys have gone on to run a time faster than they did in this race. It’s as if they peaked in this moment. Now don’t get me wrong, they have been successful in running still to this day, but I believe these times still stand as all of their PRs for the 800... which in my opinion is just crazy.
I was a sprinter in skl and they put me in for the 800m which I had never done before... I went off fast as sprinters do and proceeded to finish last 🤣🤣🤣🤣 never forget that day haha.
Who won the race? Runner in white shirt? They didn’t even show a slow-mo of the finish. 1:48 for all three runners. Leader for majority of race leaned in.
