Thanks for giving props to TC. He deserves to be in HOF, but since he didn't win much, he would have to take back seat to many of the historic players who DID win.
I was at the game in Seattle when Tom Chambers won the MVP. Magic kept finding Chambers on the fast break. Chambers was a great running power forward. If he was on the Lakers he would have been considered an all time great.
He was a monster. The fact that he's overshadowed by some of his contemporaries just shows how competitive and top-heavy with talent the league has always been.
NNNNNAAAAAWWWW, HE WASN'T OVERSHADOWED,.. IT JUST SEEM LIKE IT, BUT,.. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT HE WAS IN THE HALL OF FAME,.. ALL THESE YEARS,.. WHICH HE REALLY SHOULD BE,.. & HE'S NNNOOOOTTT IN THE TOP 75, EITHER!!! & THIS IS DEFINITELY AN EMBARRASSMENT TO NBA'S HISTORY,.. ESPECIALLY, FOR THE GREAT THAT HE WAS!!! & I'M ANGRY ABOUT IT!!! BECAUSE, I WAS THERE,.. SEEING HIS WHOLE ENTIRE CAREER!!!
@@angiewilliams8472 It's been too long now, if you're not MJ, Magic Johnson, jabbar, Bird, etc., chances are your name won't get in the conversation, people have short memories. And the young people today are totally ignorant of them.
No it doesn’t… it shows that he has been left out for some reason while people with lesser careers have got through - was he a drug user? Did he sleep with NBA owners’ wives like Udoka? I mean what did he do?
He was a pure scorer. You could always count on Chambers getting 20 or more. Always enjoyed watching him play. Picked up the tempo of the game whenever he was in. Not much on the defensive side. Guess he figured he'd outscore whoever was guarding him.
I remember watching him.. he was a scoring machine. One of those kind of players if you were a fan of the opposing team he would get under your skin and you couldn't stand him.. absolutely HOF
I remember playing NBA 1990 game. He was unstoppable in the game and once he got the ball, he would do a monstrous dunk or make 100% of his shots. Everyone wanted to choose him in the game.
Yep man, Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs. Some best players with signature moves like MJ, Bird, Magic, Clyde the Glyde, sir Charles... and Tom with unstoppable 2-handed diagonal dunk!
He was a beast. I remember as a kid, as far as white players everything was Bird, Bird, Bird. I use to think, but what about this white guy 😂 Why don't people praise him as much. He also had one of the craziest dunks ever on a video game. I think it was NBA Live '92 on Sega Genesis.
I was a big Sonics fan and remember him well. Just being the first free agent should nudge him in. Although, I think the threshold should be high in all the sports. He is very boarder line in IMHO
I've got to disagree with the idea that Tom Chambers defined the modern power forward. That distinction goes to Bob Pettit, who entered the NBA in 1954 and scored over 20,000 pts. Pettit was the same size as Chambers and had roughly the same skills on offense. No one had ever played power forward like that. And Pettit played shut-down defense, which Chambers never did.
He's a great player of his era, but his career stats fall a little short of making the HOF. He averaged 18ppg, 2 assists, and 6 Rebounds per game. I was going to compare his numbers to Chris Bosh, but unfortunately, Chambers didn't win a championship, which really hurts his chances. In today's game, Chambers would have posted high assist numbers, but back then PF's just didn't handle the ball as much as today.
One thing about Tom Chambers is that he used to really frustrate me when he was on Phoenix. Every time any of my teams played Phoenix he would always go crazy on them
That's a neat trivia question.. he has seven more points than Antawn Jamison. Most points not in hall: Tom Chambers 20049 (53rd all time) Most rebounds not in hall: Buck Williams 13017 (17th all time) Most assists not in hall: Mark Jackson 10334 (6th all time) Most games played not in hall: Kevin Willis 1424 (9th all time) Most triple doubles not in hall: Fat Lever 43 (11th all time) I just wanted an excuse to bring up Fat Lever who am I kidding?
My vote would go to Alex English. He gets no respect. You even forgot to mention him as a player who scored over 20k points. He lead the 1980’s in points scored. He finished with over 25k points
The fact that neither he nor Kevin Johnson are in the hall is a travesty. This is why the NBA needs to have a separate Hall Of Fame from the Basketball Hall Of Fame. We have a bunch of guys in the Hall for what they did internationally or in college but we have guys like Chambers and Kevin Johnson who put up numbers and some of the most iconic moments in the history of the game on the outside looking in. Chambers dunk over Jackson, the lefty over the Cavs and smash on Reid. Kevin`s dunks on Hakeem and Eaton. Especially looking at things now. Both guys were way ahead of their time.
@@soitsanightmare Isiah, Tim, KJ and Mark Price changed the definition of what it was to be a smaller point guard for an entire generation of guards. KJ at barely over 6' would go out and give the other squad 50 and dunk on their starting centers head. We have guys in the hall for what they did overseas against pre-dream team era competition but Tom, KJ and Mark can't get in...
what does charles barkley keep talking about he did not join a super team! this team made 2 conference finals and deep playoff runs before he joined. Tom chambers, kevin johnson, dan marjele and chuck! if thats not a super team then what is!?
There were times when Chambers seemed unstoppable. The only two guys I've seen since like this are Lebron James and Blake Griffin. They all looked like men playing among boys.
Hey man, you know that's right man. Tom Chambers was a beast and you sure don't never hurt them. Talk about this man and he was a beast. He would not be denied when he was on the court and he will stop you now. I'm not going to say he put you to a screeching halt but he's going to make you rethink everything you do when he's around you and they don't even talk about this man. I believe it's because he's white. That's what I believe. I believe Tom Chambers was shut out of the NBA talk discussion because he was a tall white boy and that's a damn shame
@@sludge8506 and that is in accurate. He should be way closer to the number one spot than that way closer. I mean I put chambers as far as that position he played. Plus he can play center too. I'll put chambers up around and lease 5th at least. He's up there with the greats well based on his abilities cuz I mean you know we can't get out of the fact that that's just how many points he had got but he could have got more I know he could have because he was just that good in in both positions. He was just that. Good but politics or sports you know how that go You see how they do the great Larry Bird too. They done forgot who Larry Bird is who he was what he could do what he could probably still do right now. Just sit out there and shoot your eyeballs out. I mean just shoot your eyeballs right out your head. Yeah they just no respect. They got a color problems
I was a Sonics fan and grew up watching Tom Chambers electrify the crowd with his playmaking and iconic slam dunks. He set himself apart from other "big men" with how he could play any position. Tom definitely deserves to be in the hall of fame. Thanks for making this video!
I think his lack of showing any personality on the court is why he is so slept on. He never really showed any expression or drew any attention to himself.
My Father coached Chambers in high school. He was only 6’2 until a growth spurt between his So. And Jr. Years and played the point guard position. That’s why his handle was so good as a big man. Definately a HOF player.
Tom Chambers was a great player and in the 1987 All-Star Game he made all the other stars look old. It's a shame he is not inducted into the Hall of Fame.
@@cyrillesu However, I prefer Mark Price and Brad Daugherty better than than KJ and Chambers out of the poor man's duos in the late 80's and early 90's.
They beat the 63 win lakers in 1990 forgotten upset yes they didnt have kareem but they were a great team that still had cooper and riley coaching them also magic and worthy, ac green and vlade
@@tj5180 I think the 1990 Lakers Team ran out gas, when you been making it the finals pretty much every year it takes a toll on you, then they ran into a Suns team that like to run, Play fast pace, bad combination.
I was fortunate enough to watch chambers his whole career. He was 6' 10/11 and played like he was 6'4. Best athlete in the league at his size. In my opinion only Larry Bird was a better forward during their time. He also could out jump all the centers in the league.
Absolutely. Tom's game was Taylor made for today's style of game and rules. Chambers could shoot deep, finish hard at the rim, run the floor and handle the basketball on the dribble and pull up to shoot on any spot or angle.
Damn. I knew Chambers was a beast and it's a crime that he isn't in the HoF. But that footage of him fading away from the basket and throwing in a 25 foot hook shot was sick. I've been watching NBA ball for 3 decades. I've never seen ANYONE do that.
Like a lot of commenters here who saw his whole career like I did I can absolutely say he is a hall of famer. Tom played in the “Golden Era” of the NBA which was the eighties and nineties and there were so many great players at that time that I believe he got overshadowed when it came to recognizing how truly good he was. Hall of Fame need to correct this glaring mistake.
@@alanoranday4448 Tom Chambers was a first time nominee last year 2022 to get into the hall. He didn’t make it which means he can be nominated again and again with a screening committee, approving the nomination. Trust me he will get in.
The points are nice, but he did that mostly in the first half of his career and he played during the era of the best forwards the league has seen, so it overshadowed him somewhat…however in his prime Chambers was definitely all star level
I personally think the NBA needs it's own HOF, and not just have a basketball HOF. I also feel it is far too easy to get it. Like Barkley said, "it's the HOF, not the hall of the really good". I don't think Chambers makes the cut personally, but if you are going to have guys like Chris Bosh, Mitch Richmond, and Toni Kukoc in, then Tom definitely deserves to be in. He was much better in the NBA than Toni was
HOF? YES! I lived in Phoenix in the 80s ans went to several Suns games each year. Id say 80% of the time, he was the mostvexciting player on the floor. I was lucky enough to cee Bird and Jordan play That was most of the 20%.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame has a reasonably low bar for who/what gets in and an unfair bias toward offence over defence. Based on their own examples, Chambers should make it in eventually. As far as him being one of, if not the best scorers to [currently] not be in the Hall, I think there is a lot more than career points per game to be considered.
I remember Tom Chambers, he is just like Larry Bird. He could jump, he could shoot but was not in a good team. I remember that jump when he posterize somebody as it his feet is above somebody's head. He deserved to be in the Hall of Fame.
I’ll never forget Thee Iconic NBA Live 95 commercial When it has the Chambers clip right in the middle It’s of Him coming down on a fast break & Flying from free throw line and FLYS COMPLETELY OVER another player (a PG) with The 2 HAND JAM❕ 💥 YAMMA❕ E A SPORTS …. If It’s in The Game … It’s in The Game 💪 I think it was Mark Jackson he yacked on but it looked AMAZING Especially in the 90’s He FLEW So White Boy style though ( oxymoron , I know 😄) Legs bent back hella funny and with 2 hands He flys in and YAMMERS on em PiYOW❕ Commercial was So Dope & That’s how I found out about Tom Chambers A 15yo who Loved some NBA But didn’t really know about Tommy yet He’s most definitely MAJORLY UNDERRATED Tom Chambers could ball & He could FLY
20k points, 6k rebounds, an All-Star MVP and some of the best in-game dunks of his era. unfortunately his lack of playoff success will probably keep him out of the Hall.
I disagree. He was a great player no matter what overall success his team had in the playoffs. I remember watching him as a kid, he was definitely a great player and he deserves to be in the HoF!
Lack of playoff success? He was in the conference finals multiple times. And in the west that was huge. The road to the finals was always thru Lakers magic and Kareem. Chambers was the team’s go to guy and leading scorer. Lakers had a monopoly in the west. And then Chambers broke thru and went to the NBA Finals with Barkley once.
