The greatest shot in WNBA Finals history needs a deep rewind

The WNBA began with a dynasty. The Houston Comets' hand-picked, star-studded roster immediately took over the league, winning the first two championships with ease.
In 1999, following the heartrending loss of a beloved teammate, Houston appeared on pace to do it yet again. But with seconds remaining in a surprisingly close Game 2, the New York Liberty's Teresa Weatherspoon had one shot -- one halfcourt prayer -- to at least delay the three-peat.
Welcome to a moment in history.

I love the comments talking about how a last second buzzer beater from half court doesn't qualify for a rewinder video. It obviously does, because its a pivotal moment in sports history, is extremely dramatic(as buzzer beater shots tend to be), AND, while not an absolute requirement for a rewinder, it a moment a lot of us, myself included, haven't seen before. People can be as salty as they want in the comments, but as long as the stories are actually interesting(like this one)...keep 'em coming.

@@MikeBNumba6 at the time it was simply marketed better. You had more commercials on tv, a lot of the games were nationally televised, the names in the league were already established stars grouped with up and comers. It's almost like people can become professional players for reasons other than good shooting. It's not that odd knowing how the NBA originally got started. For the first 20 or so years of the league, there was something called the territorial draft, where team could claim first dibs on players in their market. The Comets also got lucky in that Tina Thompson 1) had an outside shot and 2) was willing to play proto-Chris Bosh to the established vets. While Tina Thompson wasn't obviously a bum, no one foresaw how players could fit together outside of a college context. USC wasn't at its peak at the time, so only the cognoscenti could have seen that coming.

That truly was one amazing, remarkable shot like you'll hardly ever see, which you never would have believed would have possibly gone in. That being even if it was kind of quickly forgotten, due to it only delaying the inevitable, and sadly didn't result in a championship for the Liberty when the Comets regrouped, and won Game #3 with ease. This was also when the WNBA was sort of an interesting novelty which was worth a look, and had some fun players to watch. The fact that the crowds at these games had a sold out, NBA type atmosphere really spoke volume too, even if many fans soon began to lose interest in it not too long afterwards it seemed though.

Used to work for the Detroit shock, it’s easy to make fun of the WNBA if you haven’t really ever seen them play but when you go to see a game up close, at least back then it was some of the most physical basketball you’ll ever see. I’m sure it didn’t hurt the shock coaches were laimbeer and Mahorn but still…

I remember being so excited that there was going to be a women's basketball league. My sisters, mom and I watched the games while my dad was at work. Then I stopped watching basketball completely when Michael Jordan retired. I started watching basketball again this year for the WNBA's rookie class, I was surprised to see T-Spoon as a part of the league still. I remembered her from those two seasons I watched. Judging by this video, it looks like Becky Hammond ended up taking her job. I read that she only played 4 seasons in the WNBA. I had never seen this shot, but it really is something! I've watched some practice videos for her team, the Chicago Sky, and the players were practicing that half-court shot. Just last weekend during practice for the All-Star game, Angel Reese made that, and she thanked the Chicago Sky for helping her do it. I hope T-Spoon is around for a long time.

1, this shot was, realistically, meaningless. 2. the Comet's Dynasty may be something we'll never see in basketball again. The Heat tried to do the same thing in the NBA and we saw how that went. 3: The WNBA hasn't been watchable sense.

Whether you knew about it or not, whether you think the WNBA is garbage or not, it's a professional sport that has moments in history. If you don't agree, don't watch the video. They aren't trying to make videos specifically to cater to everybody's preference. They just do it on topics they find interesting and think others might
