When I was a kid I was too embarrassed to talk to other people about dragon ball. Neither of my brothers were into it either. One day though, after hearing about the upcoming game battle of Z (probably in a game informer magazine lmao) I looked it up on youtube to find gameplay, and instead found a youtube series called road to dragon ball Z: battle of Z by one thundershot69. My first introduction to the dragon ball youtube community. Without that series I would have never met the online friends I talk to near daily now. I could write an entire novel filled with all the ways dragon ball has impacted my life. It all traces back to Akira Toriyama.

Still remember finding your channel through the Raging Blast 2 battles like five usernames ago. Dragon Ball is a force of connection and creation. The sheer amount of passion and communities this series forged may never be seen again. Entire friendships, franchises, and families have been founded on the basis of Dragon Ball. It’s so beautiful, and that’s why it’s so heartbreaking. Thank you, Akira Toriyama. Thank you, and may you rest in peace.

Will never forget having Dragon Ball as a young kid with my twin brother. We would play around doing the Galick Gun/Kamehameha beam struggle or the fusion dance… some of our favorite games were the Budokai series and Tenkaichi ones. I was always greatful for the joy all it brought me. Peace and love ❤️

I may have hated on him for coming up with Super, but he still created the legendary show that was my childhood Dragonball was part of my life since i was 4, coming up with Super won't make me forget that, it was the reason both my mind and body are healthier. He was an amazing artist, despite him joking about being lazy all the times. A lot of the plot in the manga happened because he kept trying to find ways to save on linework, just for his art to become more and more detailed every arc. Drawing Dragon Ball in middle school was the start of my decision in becoming an art student in college, and Its also the reason i work out to stay healthy. If it wasn't for him, I would probably never grew an interest for drawing and art as a whole. He, and his work, introduced me to this field; it saved me from a rough place back in middle school... now I've built my whole life around studio arts because of him. Even if i don't make it in the field with how brutal the industry is, i don't regret my choice. I learned so many wonderful things in college, and finally found a direction for the future. This man literally changed my life with his one work. I feel devastated, i slandered him so much for making Super, but I wouldn't be here if my younger self didn't just randomly decided to sketch Goku that one day in middle school. I know know how to make art in multiple mediums, from painting to sculpting. Even if i don't make it in the field i don't regret learning all these wonderful things. Rest in peace king, and thank you for everything. Akira Toriyama, you were the champion. You were number one.

I fell out of the Dragon Ball stuff after Super came out, but when i heard about Toriyama's passing, I thought about you and other creators I used to watch on this website. I'll never forget how much time I invested watching the series and playing the games, as well as watching Dragon Ball RU-vidrs like yourself and others, it was all a great time. I think I'll go watch the original Dragon Ball for old times sake. Rest in Paradise Akira Toriyama.

It’s tough man, I was literally at target an hour before the news broke searching for Dragon Ball TCG stuff. Got home and I went outside to take my dogs out and ended up just sitting there reading what everyone was saying and processing the emotions and thinking back of all the spirit bombs/kamehameha’s I tried to do as a kid, my mom breaking my BT3 disc because my brothers were fighting because one was using the busted ass chocolate beam, watching DBS Broly with my little brother in the THEATRES! Man it’s just so tough. Sorry for such a long comment but this is the first time I’m jotting my thoughts down tonight

I’m a painter by trade but Toriyama was the most influential artist and person in my like. Growing up in a poor family where my drawings n stuff were shunned I remember drawing and tracing designs off of my dragon ball folders. Just to keep the spark lit. Fast forward to high school I stop drawing entirely but come back to make a fucking fan comic with my best friend because of battle of gods and xenoverse. Dragonball was my first anime ever and it’s influenced my life in irreplaceable ways. Being the back bone of friendships I hold to this day. Being the star that guides be back to art. Hell I’ve written multiple research papers on Toriyama. Losing home feels like loosing a father. Tho our artists paths diverged he’s my biggest inspiration and I pray to whoever listens that that man knows how many people he’s touched and inspired throughout his like. Thank you Toriyama

Dude, thank you. I used to watch you a lot when I was in junior high and high school. I'm about to graduate university now, and I still haven't stopped loving dragon ball. Honestly, your channel helped me fall in love with it because once I started looking up guides for Xenoverse 1, I saw your other videos and learned about a lot of the community through collabs you did with others. From there, I found TFS, all the theory youtubers, and all the other forms of content creation that bring this community together and make us not feel alone. That being said, I never had many friends into this sort of thing (and honestly always felt like I had to hide it from people because it was "nerd shit"). I really appreciate how you've given so many people like me a space where we don't have to grieve this loss alone. Dragon Ball led me to get my black belt as a kid, which was the first thing I did that really convinced me I had any talents at all. Akira Toiyama's stories helped me stand up for myself and end years of bullying. I'd probably still be dealing with self confidence issues to this day if I hadn't done that, so I'm glad I learned about his stories. You put it best at the end: he gave everyone so much more than we every could have hoped for in a story. If there is some kind of afterlife, I hope he can truly see the impact he's had on so many people. Especially with how you've moved away from the community a little to try new things, it means the world that you came back to say this. Thank you.

Toriyama is the reason I’m a die hard weeb. His work introduced me the fun and crazy medium that I love. Without Dragon ball the world would be different. He is the reason shonen, sienen and almost every other manga and anime genre. His world and art is one of a kind and so unique and recognizable. He is the GREATEST MANGAKA EVER!!! I don’t care what someone will argue. Without him, your favorite manga/anime would not exist. Bleach, Naruto, One piece, HxH, my hero, Chainsaw man, JJK, and hundreds of others would not exist without his influence. Dragon ball is one of my favorite pieces of media ever. And this just hurts to see the man who created such an impactful work pass away before the age of 80. He will be missed. May he rest in peace and enjoy otherworld 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️

I remember my first time I watched any piece of DB to this day. I was sick with the flu or something one day, and I was laying on the couch watching TV with my now late grandmother (she’s been gone a while at this point, not that it matters), and she was scrolling through the TV guide and I noticed a little tv show called “Dragon Ball Z Kai” on Nicktoons. I asked my grandma to turn it on and she took pity on me since I was sick and turned it on, and it happened to be the episode where Goku sacrifices himself to take out Raditz. After that, I made sure to keep up with Dragon Ball as often as I could and for the most part succeeded. I watched all the way up to the end of the Cell Arc PLUS half of the Trunks Special before Nicktoons was LITERALLY unknowingly taken away from me by my mother who didn’t realize I used that channel regularly and took it off our cable plan (still salty about that lmao). Also, I have yet to see the Majin Buu Arc in full, whatever I’ve seen has been through YT fights and clips and playing Dokkan and whatnot. I also happened to find out about Toriyama while I was streaming, so you’re not alone there Thunder (not self promoting here, just adding context to my situation of hearing about Toriyamas passing). Someone in a discord I’m part of linked the tweet and I took a look at it live and was just utterly shocked. Point is, without Dragon Ball, I’m not as big of an anime fan as I am today. DB inspired whole INDUSTRIES and hearing he passed so suddenly was shocking. I ain’t the praying type, but I do hope his family is alright. If it’s as heavy on the internet as it’s seemed to be, I can’t even IMAGINE what they’re going through. Wish them the best.

Akira Toriyama is the Grandfather of Shonhen. His creation Dragon Ball as a whole is my everything. If I had one obession, it would be Dragon Ball. All the characters, the style, the art, the lessons, values, and the storytelling literally is one of the main things that built me up to who I am today and what I continue to be moving forward. Its been with me my whole life with the toys, the games, mobile games, magazines, posters, figures, the manga, and so much more. I can't imagine a world without Dragon Ball. A lot of the other things I like outside of Dragon Ball wouldnt be there without the inception of Dragon Ball & thats so jarring to think about. Its the one thing that literally bonded me and my brother together to now that relationship being my second strongest (1st being the one I have with Mom). Dragon Ball is also my earliest memory i can think with my Mom showering little 2-3 yr toddler me and then rushing to the side of the bed after the cold shower and seeing my brother play Budokai 1 on our old Panasonic TV. There wont be anything like what he was or what he did for the world.

I don’t think I would be who I am or even around without dragon ball for two reasons. 1. The first episode I ever watched of dragon ball was when Goku and Vegeta first fought. This was after I was watching raw (I don’t remember the day it was) and I was so excited, I asked my ma what was I watching and she said this dragon ball and that guy is goku. From then on I knew I gotta have the games, toys, t-shirts etc and I had to get my older brother on this but he already been on it. His favorite character was Vegeta and he had been telling me how much of a cooler character he is, cooler attacks and moves. However I was Goku guy for a little while until I started watching Gohan’s growth and I became a huge Gohan fan. Getting back to me and my brother we were like Goku and Vegeta at one point, he was my rival but my best friend and someone I idealized growing up because my dad was in jail and I just lost two grandpas on my dad’s side. So through dragon ball we played a lot games, watched the anime and have discussions about it and through a time that we were like growing farther apart but that was one of the main things that would get us talking again. Now some of y’all made not know this because I was silent about it but..my brother..is no longer with us and I’ve been struggling to do deal with this for nearly two years now but..one day back in February..his son(and a daughter, nephew is 5 and the little niece is 3) came to my room when it’s one usual nights where I stayed up for too long and he asked me what I was doing. I was trying to see if an older ps2 controller worked so I wouldn’t have just one but I was planning to show my brother’s kids how to play bt3 and luckily enough I asked him if he wanted to play and he said yeah. So I chose Early Goku and..he chose..Vegeta.. and I said why him and he did because he is a bad guy and he’s cool…I cried after we finished playing because..it was like my brother was here again. 2. I started watching you guys in early 2016 in my final year of high school. First it was rhyme and I think it was a xenoverse video. After it was Afro and it was attack on titan video. Seereax and it was broshi video lmao. You and Jdantastic a year later and I discovered twitch etc. That’s also how I met Kyle and many of my other friends through you guys and because of dragon ball. I don’t I would be here today if it wasn’t for a man who never gave up and decided to make one of the greatest anime and manga series of all time. He is the goat and I am forever grateful to him and to the people who he has brought to my life. Thank you for everything Akira Toriyama. Rest peacefully.

Dragon ball was the first Shonen anime I ever watched and honestly the pure magic I felt when watching Toonami and seeing the Frieza saga go down was insane, although I'm a One Piece fan first and foremost I can understand the deep pain and feeling of emptiness you'd feel if the source of your passion and sort of sanctuary was just suddenly gone, different series but there's a quote in One Piece that goes "When does a man die? When he is hit by a bullet? No! When he suffers a disease? No! When he ate a soup made out of a poisonous mushroom? No! A man dies when he is forgotten!” as a One Piece fan not having Akira Toriyama be here with us and compete with us any longer fills us with deep sorrow and regret. - RIP Akira Toriyama in stand of all anime fans who grew up and watched your work unfold with that childlike wonder you helped inspire in all of us even as children.

The day before it was announced toriyama died was when I learned about dragon quest and dragon ball were connected, looking back… I probably should’ve known that dragon quest and dragon ball were connected, but when I found out, I was bursting with joy and excitement at the the fact, toriyama was basically the the guy who made my favorite game series and anime series. I found your channel back in the Raging Blast 2 days, before I was even into Dragon Ball, and that's honestly what got me into it. Dragon Ball has directly or indirectly introduced me to all the most important people in my life. It's a weird feeling that my life has been so hugely shaped an impacted by someone I never met and now never have the chance to. He'll be missed, to say the least.

It really is heart wrenching news, as a kid I had loved dragon ball so much and got super into the dragon ball community when xenoverse came out. That’s how I found Thunder and eventually all of the squad. Almost all my gamer tags and online names are dragon ball related, my first email I ever made was dragon ball related and over a decade old it’s still my primary… watching Thunder’s vids one day I find a video to his twitch stream and loved the community of gamers that I was introduced to, which I didn’t know existed before. Thank you Thunder for all the dragon ball content, and all the streams, you introduced me to twitch and I loved watching you back in the day when you used to game so late at night. You made me laugh so much, I always looked forward to new vids and when u were live, I don’t have the time I used to but I try to pop in now and again, even though I’ve always been a hardcore lurker. I believe this might be my first comment ever as well, but how could I not give my words of gratitude to the man who has impacted my life forever and so many others. I can’t say thank you enough Akira, I wouldn’t be who I am today, without you.

I couldn't say it any better than you did. Dragon Ball has always had an impact on my life from a child to my teenage years. I couldn't imagine thinking about how much of an impact Toriyama had on the world. Without him, I wouldnt have met you who has influenced me to start making content. Things could be completely different just without his existence alone.

Without Akira I would say this straight to the point a 12 year old black kid like me would of never been apart of the anime community a community where I believe now at the age of 32 reflected everything that at that time of my life I wouldnt believe possible at 13 people comming together without worrying about there differences but yet finding common ground on somthing that they loved. At the age of 32 I see people younger than I am now not even thinking that way in this community and by that I mean anime and a peace of that has something to do with the love of Dragon ball. This anime had brought so many men now and boys who are now men here.

I probably started DB in the most ass-backwards way possible. Got a box of vhs tapes from a family member and one of them happened to be DB. The episode on the tape went from Mr. Satan meeting Buu till the last episode has the gray evil Buu pop out. 3 or 4 episodes of what's considered the worst arc with two characters that weren't that popular (I'm pretty sure Goku doesn't even show up in these episodes 😅) But I was hooked. I had next to no idea what was going on but by the end of the tape I had to know what was going to happen to Buu. Now these were the days of the orange bricks, and for some reason our local store never had all of them. So my first time going through the series was out of order, buying whatever episodes where there at the time and piecing the whole thing together as i went. That was probably 15 years ago and it's still not let go. Now i have a friend who started with Goku Black, another who only got into it because he liked a single character design. I see it as a testament to Toriyama. His writing, art, moment-to-moment action, idk something. That people can be thrown into the deep end of DB and somehow just "get it." Not sure if that made much sense but thought I'd share my story. Toriyama and his story have been with me for a long time and probably isn't going anywhere

I wouldn't have found you if it wasn't for Battle of Z of all fuckin things. I played it on a car ride somewhere, on my PSVita of all fuckin things. I could do everything but the last mission, so when we finally got home, I just looked it up, and your video was the first one that popped up. That was just as my parents started loosening up about my internet access, and that's when I found you, thought you were really funny, and watched the whole BoZ playthru I think you were my first streamer I ever started following, because of BATTLE OF Z of all damn things! As wierd as it may seem, so many of my friends love my sense of humor and wit, and so much of that comes from "The BoZ/Xenoverse" Era of you and the squad. Being a part of the hype and news for XV, watching you and rhyme sneak into the JP beta test was my first experience with an online community. Forever grateful to be a little offshoot of your "root" as you put it. Love ya man. Thanks for making a video like this. I think it's def what I needed

What I personally loved most about Dragon Ball, and still do to this day is how much it inspires people. So many people who love the series are so inspired by so many of the characters to, at the least workout and get stronger, and at most completely change their lives around for the better. Dragon Ball may be a simple story, but it's always been one that changes people.

The show dragonball will forever be a binding glue in the eyes of its fans and people will for the foreseeable and even unforeseeable future still make friendships and new squads because this show.
