I almost have tears in my eyes. I spent seven summers in Ikaria on my late teens and early twenties. We were a bounch of us gathering there every years some from Gremany, France, USA, England. Our home was the beautiful sand on the beach of Armenistis where I had some of the best sleeps in my life in my sleeping bag under the glistering night sky. Wake up in the morning by the sunlight and dive right in to the crystal water, brush teeth and take wawalk up the rocks to the village where Mrs Maria will make you the best breakfast you had ever had. Then back down to the beach for the whole day of swimming, catching naps, reading books or making friends. At nightfall straight back up to the village for an epic dinner and lots of delicious Ikarian wine. Then back down to the beach building a beach fire with many friends around playing guitars, bongos and more wine. I can go on for ever. Great jod Gabe. I am very happy you had the chance to discover this Greek gem of an island. Btw, Ikarian people are the best!

Ah, Ikaria! ❤Will be going there too, can't wait to see my friends again, it's been a long time! About the myth: Daedalus invented the wings (amongst many other things) in order to escape king Minos' palace on Crete, his sun Ikaros fell in the Ikarian Sea, just south of Ikaria. Make sure to visit Armenistis-Nas-Raches (Raches nice at night, the shops open at night, not during the day), Theoskepasti, Seychelles.

Gabriel, you must get the honey on Ikaria. It's the best in the world. My cousins in brasil won awards for their honey, but it doesn't compare.If I'm sailing anywhere in the Aegean, I get as much honey as they will allow - this is the true nectar of the gods/goddesses...long life with honey from ikaria...sardinia has something similar but not on the level on ikaria

Geia Sou Gabriel.......have you ever been to the Frakto virgin forest in Greece? It is one of the most important virgin (primeval) forests left in Europe, and it is very near to Bulgaria. Also in the vicinity is the forest of Elatia, composed of the southern-most forest of Norwegian spruce--there are waterfalls and excellent hiking paths all around. Maybe you can visit this area before or after your excursion into Bulgaria. Further west in this northern part of Greece are the thermal springs Loutra Aridaias (also known as Pozar) where Alexander rested and healed his troops--very beautiful place where you can dip into hot and cold waters right next to each other. Congratulations, Gabriel! On behalf of the Greek people, many thanks. For your viewers' information, we want to set the record straight about the Ikaros myth you mentioned in your video. The myth goes like this: Daidalos, who had made the Minoan Labyrinth, made wings for his son and himself so they could escape from Crete. When they were quite far, Ikaros, the son, was so enthusiastic about flying that he flew closer and closer to the sun and, as a result, fell into the sea. In memory of his son, Daidalos named this area of the Aegean Sea, the Ikarion Sea and the island Ikaria. Have beautiful adventures exploring and traveling!

Great video....but you need more than two days for Ikaria.....if you can, check out the mountain village of Raches...very cool and surrounded by pine and wooded areas....you'll even find water falls on Ikaria...

Ikaria is one of the blue zones of the world where people have a very long life , and where a lot centurions live. Other blue zones are in Japan, Costa Rica ,Italy and maybe in California too.

We never buy car insurance because credit card you pay with has car insurance coverage. I heard they don’t use clocks or watches on Ikaria so be prepared… cute the lady at the end asking questions about your travel job. You should send her your channel. She will love it I’m sure.

Actually the thermai hot springs on icaria is one of two radioactive ones in Greece the second being on northern Greece. Good for your joints but not for long. You can stay in this hot water for about a quarter of an hour because of the isotopes. Nobody seems to know this.

Yes, he’s one-quarter Italian…his Mom is half Italian, originally from Miami. I’m 60% Italian raised Greek and Gabrielle looks Mediterranean and Jewish (Israel is Mediterranean. I don’t know that he’s a blend that includes Jewish, though. He’s the real deal…authentic.

Can't believe your leaving Greece and not going on to other smaller islands exploring. Your a free traveller and your own boss so it's your choice at the end of the day. The Greek daily vlogs of these beautiful islands / places you visit will be truly missed. Hopefully will be travelling to Naxos staying in Agia Anna then ferry over to Donoussa then a ferry ride to Paros to get over to Antiparos ( planning to do the whole month of September ).

Very nice videos from a very cool traveler that likes my country :) Keep going! Just dont forget that Greece is not only aigian sea and cyclades /dwdekanise islands. You will find a total diferent landscape at the eptanisa islands on the ionian sea and also there are great places at mainland (for example a tour at pelloponise is a must during summer).

Nice video..... just a small remark regarding the myth of Icarus.....Daidalos and Icarus were father and son living in Creta, working as great engineers under a tyrannic rule king. So, they decided to escape by creating the first recorded and successful attempt in history, which was to fly high by wearing a short of mechanism with feathers and wax....Icarus was excited and did not hear the warnings of his father not to fly too high and finally he fell into the sea, close to Icaria Island.From that period the sea is called Icario Pelagos and the sea Icaria to honour the great engineers of that time.That's what I remember from my distant school memories....!!!!!forgive me if I said something wrong....I have also recently read in a scientific article that a University study has recreated this mechanism and proved that it is feasible to fly.....with feathers and wax!!!!!!!! thank you!

Tavern is considered even for the Greeks a luxury nowdays,besides street food like gyros you can prepare your own meal when renting a n apartment with kitchen or get the cheap vegetables and fruits from grocery store and make a salad at home ,my personal view as a Greek is not to spend much for food.I will eat at taverna 2-3 times in 5 days .

I like how plentiful the portions are, over there! Looks much better than what they serve, that passes for "Greek" food over in Seattle. Foreigners feel so pressured to cater to Westerners and their tepid, inauthentic tastes, which I think can be rather ... well, a bit too American, actually.

You didn't quite get the story right.......Ikaros and his father Daedalus wanted to escape from Crete and made their wax wings and flew off. Daedalus, told his son not to fly too high, close to the sun because of the danger of his wings melting from the heat. Ikaros did not heed his father's words, flew too high, his wings melted and he fell into the sea quite close to the island which was named after him and also the well known Ikarian Sea, known by seamen, fishermen and Ship's Captains for its rough weathers.

It is EU law that dictates that you must be able to get a product for the listed price to prevent false advertising. Even if the store has made a mistake. This happens actually quite often in my supermarket. On monday the promotions change and sometimes the staff didnt come around yet to change the pricing. So I would grab a loaf of bread for example that is still advertised as last weeks promotion for 1 euro instead of 1.50. At the register the new non-promotion price will show up but I have the right as a consumer to protest and point out that the cheaper prices is still advertised in the store itself so they have to sell it to me for that lower price. So maybe a good tip for tourists: If they tell you that the price is higher because an item is no longer on sale, or tips or tax or whatever is not included, dont accept that and point out that that is unfortunatly their misstake. This is not up to the store itself. This can happen in all sorts of situations. At one time at a rather touristy cafe in Rome the server told me when he handed me the check that his service was not included. Apparantly the place got lots of North American customers or something. When I told him that that is not possible and flatout illegal and that this was not up to them but covered by EU law. He got pretty angry. Quite a fail on his part because even though service is included, I do usually tip if the service is good. Unfortunately for him this wasnt really the case when he decided to try to lie about this :-D

Go check out the island ANDROS. Has a lot of hiking trails and beautiful beaches. Several small villages and the biggest village called Chora. Also has a Venetian castle and a orthodox monastery. Rent a car at port village of Gavrion.

It's not baba ganoush, Greeks, Balkan nations (Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, etc...), Persians, Turks, Armenians , and Jews all have 2 forms of Eggplant salad dip, a white one made with mayo or sour cream or tahini and roasted eggplants which is the baba g, and then there is the red version you had Gabriel made only with olive oil or sunflower oil with roasted peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants. Both have onions and sometimes garlic in them too. I prefer the one you had, the red one. You eat both with bread or pita.

Yes, I like Sixt if they're available. But on Greek islands it's usually local companies.

Gabriel, questions for you please: 1) Are Greek Ales lighter than the American IPA varieties? Lucky you, getting to try all of those beverages du jour. 2) Also, what are those fried looking things in the salad at the very beginning of this video, please? They look like shrimp. Thanks in advance for any replies you care to give to me. Baba Ghanoush is excellent! Pork chops are my favourite way to prep my favourite meat, pork. I always have olive oil on hand to drizzle on ... EVERYTHING! And who does not love French bread?

@@sirapos6550 The fried things, or they look like they are fried, anyway, in the salad at the very beginning of this video. They look like fried shrimp! Look at timepoint, 00:05, please.

@@SuiGenerisAbbie I think you've got it wrong. This is not a fried item,it is only a piece of bread. Later on it is going to be soaked in the olive oil and vinegar which we used to marinate the salad.
