I bought a beautiful Volvo V70 TDi and it's your perfect car for life. In this video I explain why an old, high mileage, well loved diesel estate car from Sweden is actually the answer to all of the planets problems.
5:10 Dont buy an EV, get yourself a 2 grand Volvo V70 tdi and just keep it forever, love it forever, it will run on ANY Diesel, its just a nice honest car, just buy one of these, keep it on the road, run it forever, never change a car, look after it and let that be YOUR GREEN AGENDA! 💚
I've got a 2000 reg v70 tdi one of the last mk1 got it in Feb on 76k an I'm 3rd owner from new full leather 7seats heated seats volvo detachable tow bar manual I was shocked at milage myself aswell haha 😄
Had mine twenty two years bought from new 222300 Miles now, if Volvo made a van mine would be it, throw every thing in it all my tools etc I do window repairs and the back seat is the perfect glass rack, so had to buy another TDi p80 as my posh car, love them to bits, 50 plus mpg what is more environmental over the cars life cycle who needs electic cars!!!
I had one of these, also in Olive green and also with cloth seats. However mines did have climate control and I did upgrade the seats to a real nice grey leather set from an 850. It also looked pretty nice with the Canistos I put on it. An unreal motor, I loved it a lot. I was very sad when the timing belt nipped 😢
OMG...watching from Vancouver, Canada..have an 04 xc70 2.5 t, awd...petrol/gas engine/premium fuel to boot....Diesel Volvos not seen here, very rare...50 mpg, I'm beyond jealous....who needs a payment when you can have such a car like that green machine...nice one mate.
We’ve got an 850 T5 in the family in that colour, it’s probably one of the best colours ever put on a normal car. We’re on about getting rid, and each time I hear that it might be going I want to buy it myself. Shame I can’t afford to insure though - and the bloody mpg it gets too!
When I went to buy my V70 T5 the guy had a V70 diesel too. If a customer wasn't coming down from Scotland to get I reckon I'd have gone for it over the rocket ship! Keep 'em going.
You’re really making me want one of these I was working today in Basingstoke and there was an old guy getting into an old 850r I was tempted to ask if he wanted to sell it
I have a 2000 V70R, it's just black, unfortunately, but one of my mirrors is this color! and the other is silver lol. The car has been a lot of work, I rebuilt the head, just have to fix a coolant leak at the turbo and the throttle issue
I had a 99 V70 diesel auto brilliant car bought it at 150k ran it to 420k and the gearbox went. Probably the cheapest motoring I ever had. 62 mpg average. I sold it to a Volvo breaker my total depression for the miles I covered 150 less than I paid for it.
Just about to look at a 99 v70 tdi with 292 thousand miles on it currently drive a p2 xc70 but need a little better mpg for commute how long will these 2.5 tdis go on for when looked after it will be the highest mileage car ive ever bought.
I have exactly the same car. 2.5 diesel manual. 400k km (ca 250k miles). Looks like new and feels like new. No rust. Some economy mods done. I get 4l/100km (ca 45mpg?).
Mind sharing which mods you've done? That's some crazy low fuel consumption. As to your MPG, it depends on which unit you're trying to convert to, since there are UK MPG and US MPG. That said, 4l/100km translates to 58,8 US MPG and 70,6 UK MPG.
Have 2x v70 d5's, 2x 850r's, 1x 850 t5 estate, have just picked up a mint 1997 volvo 850 2.5 10v CD with mint grey leather interior (wife is going to murder me for ahving another volvo on the drive!!) going to t5 the 2.5 10v.
Nice enough car; if you like driving a diesel brick. I've had an 850 estate and really wasn't happy with it. Not comfortable, very thirsty under load and in the end, I was happy to see it go. I've also had an S80, much more comfortable, still a bit thirsty (32mpg on the motorway - no more than 20mpg in town), but a pleasant short-term car. I would never, ever choose diesel under any circumstances! My current car is supremely comfortable, ultra-reliable, reasonably economical, (41mpg on a motorway at 72mph in cruise; and an average of 24.6mpg in town), it's silent, really silent, at any speed, and it's very, very fast indeed! It's 17 years old and gently going up in value, (I've been offered twice what I paid for it a year ago!), but it's not for sale any time soon. I drive a 2006 Lexus GS300 SE-L.
Just came home after driving behind a car like this. The smell from the diesel almost killed me. Felt like I lost 5 years of life. Yeah, it's a nice car if you're into tractors.
Sure Heracles-by1xn , sure...... My god I doubt you've ever been to Lagos, Capetown, Nairobi , manila Sao Paulo, Rio, bogata, Bucaramanga , Athens - after the EU Troika forced them to accept diesel for private cars...... But sure... 5 years off your life...
Is there much of a difference between the 850 TDI and the V70? I'm led to believe the 850 is better as it is simpler. Ah, you've done a video on that. As green as it is, the governing bodies of this country do not agree. Do love these. :(
850 and early V70 TDi use the same engine, it’s one of the only ‘classic’ Volvos that actually gets respectable MPG, which is why I replaced my 940 Turbo with the 850 TDi.
Actually just got off the phone with a specialist who says the 850 TDI is a bit more robust, but i'm not 100% sure if he was talking about the 850 in general. My 850 TDI is going in for a whole load of work next week with an established specialist so i'll update on video!
@@GeoffBuysCars Great! Look forward to seeing more. I have a 1994 960 so do understand what you mean in relations to MPG because mine's awful. Slowly trying to sort out my 960, so hats off to you for doing your best to keep your 850 TDI on the road. If I could find a decent one I'd seriously consider getting one, only thing stopping me from using it daily would be all of the LEZ and ULEZ areas.
I tend to agree that the petrol is the better engine. It won't get the same MPG (mine averages ~34 mpg) but it's robust Volvo engine (I'm on 220k) and simpler to maintain.
One question why you never pop the hood in any videos? Why not keep the green hulk and sell other vooolvoo the green hulk looks better car ....and I ant a voolvoo man as you know....tint windows amd tidy it up look better
The MK1 and early Mk2 V70 cloth interiors are not hard wearing and split on the seams, If you took the front seat covers off i expect that they are a mess 😂
