This was such a brilliant scene, I think the Goblin persona taking over Norman was executed perfectly because at first I thought Peter was sensing the police outside, and the music from TASM2 also fits in this scene well!
It fits pretty well, I did something similar with his original theme ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J09p6DVJ38w.html I think in both cases it does make the scene way scarier and tense.
The moment he said Norman’s on sabbatical, I got chills. The Green Goblin was my childhood villain growing up, and the fact that he was more sadistic and sinister than before made me grin. Some villains you never forget, and the Goblin was one of them because to childhood me, he was the embodiment of evil, the devil himself. Willem Dafoe truly outdid himself in this movie.
I have a nephew who's a big MCU fan and since he knows I know a lot about Spider-Man from the comics and cartoons, he asked about Green Goblin on what is his goal and his motivation. And here's my opinion and what I told him. Honestly, there's no sense to Green Goblin's madness. He knows he has power that he compares himself to a god that can use his power for his own pleasure and amusement. And there's his intelligence that is also deadly as well cause he's a master manipulator that tries to mess with you with his words. This is the reason why Green Goblin is considered Spider-Man's archenemy. He's just insane. He's like what the Joker is to Batman.
It’s seriously both a nostalgic dream, and truly a good traditional Spider-man story all in one. Having the villains be the versions from other universes is perfect simply bc they don’t have to spent soooo much time setting up the MCU versions, we get to see these actors again in these rolls, AND we get a great Sinister Six-type villain all in one. I seriously can’t sing my praises for this movie enough, it’s seriously everything i wanted and more.
As a 90s kid seeing Tobey and Willem play Peter and Norman one last time 19 years later was the exact pick me up I needed after how awful 2020 was. It was like living a childhood dream. Hard to describe.
I feel this scene goes to show that the Green Goblin's deadliest weapon isn't his bombs, blades or glider. It's his WORDS. All it took was one short speech, and he turned nearly all the villains against Spider-Man. Which I believe shows the extent of the Goblin's intelligence. He is a master at manipulation, able to play mind games on par with Hannibal Lecter.
I watched you from deep behind Norman's cowardly eyes struggling to have everything you want while the world tries to make you choose gods don't have to choose we take
Other than the ending, it was disappointing to not hear Electro's theme! Dane's Goblin score is so underrated as well. The theme sounding like an alarm, warning that danger is coming, is why Zimmer is such a genius!
Chills to listen Electro’s theme again, and I’ll say this Willem Dafoe is the best two personality Norman and Goblin, while the Spectacular Spiderman has the best Norman who has full control of the Goblin
I don't like spectacular goblin as ultimate goblin. In spectacular series norman osborn is flat greedy powehungry asshole, abuser and only cares about power and money, when you don't have big problems with your company, he is even ready to frame his son. Even evil side of Norman Osborn (green goblin)from tas and movies would never do that. My favorite are tas green goblin and William Defoe. Evil personality didn’t come out of nowhere, just because of accidents, it was part of him before. Every one of us have a beast inside and we holding him by morals. He has difficult relationship with his son. He is not good dad, but he isn't abuser as spectacular and ultimate.
Goblin: monologues Electro: upgrades his battery Osborn: regains his mind Sandman: just dips outta there . . . Lizard: waiting to be let out of of the van for a bathroom break
This is definitely one of the most powerful and fantastic moment of Green Goblin! The way they portrayal Goblin in this movie was just excellent like how he was in first 3 Spider-Man movies and this is why Green Goblin is my favorite Spider-Man villain of all time. Also if that Goblin’s theme and Electro’s theme from TASM2 was played in that scene I would’ve had so much chills and you really did awesome job there dude!
The only thing missing in this otherwhise perfect scene is Goblin's Infamous quote to Peter "Despite everything you've done for them, they'll eventually hate you." It would have been absolutely fitting for this kind of situation.
These are not curses, they're gifts. I've seen you behind Norman's cowardly eyes struggling to have everything you want. While the world tries to make you choose.
All the villians are great, but if I had to choose one to have permanently stayed in the MCU, definitely Goblin. Hell, I have a strong feeling that'd if he sticked around, he would've definitely been able to take over 😈
He absolutely would have been a big threat in the MCU. In the comics he even created his own version of the Avengers called the Dark Avengers and became the Iron Patriot. He was not only Spiderman's arch-enemy, but also a major enemy to the Avengers themselfes and to the other heroes too.
While NWH's plot was out of place, I absolutely adore seeing Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin again. It's like one of those actors you can't replace due to how they fit the role so well.
Well all the villains didn't have there themes except electro if you even want to count 1 second riff as a theme. It's rushed but good. Plus in pov of Peter it all happend so quickly
Your retarded. The plot was simple. Peter fails to make the spell to have rveryone forget he is spiderman and it brings in other spidey villains from other worlds including variants of himself. The plot made sense
I think because they got the most important stuff right like Character motivations and compelling themes, it’s easier to forgive the plot shortcomings.
It makes some weird sense for Otto to remain an ally to Spider-Man from this point on, since in other universes Doc Ock has been his own version of Spider-Man, too.
I kinda don’t like how it takes a cute evil medicine to get him to do it when in Spider-Man 2, Peter mirrored the wisdom of aunt may and Otto’s own wisdom as well to get through to him on a human level. But still Otto is amazing in NWH
@davemac9563 lol we had to move the story along...cure him...get Goblin to make the Heel turn BIG FIGHT SCENE! May 😥😢😭😭😭😭...On to the BIG 3RD ACT! But I get what you mean.
@MetroXLR99 sorry it took me so long to reply but yeah I did notice that. I've always saw Otto as a victim to his own creation anyway. I blamed his arms for every bad thing he's done. Remember in Spider-Man 2 when he was unconscious from the accident and they were gonna surgically remove his arms but then his arms started killing everyone....meanwhile Ottos unconscious the whole damn time until its over! Now he's basically to blam for all those deaths. Bro kinda HAD to go villain. Matt Murdock couldn't help Otto out of that mess!
Good music is hard to come bye it seems to me despite how some movies turned out the musics always have a few benefits they are always trapped in the attic the good thing you did Mr empire
1:55 I wish they had used this music when Electro was introduced into the movie. How cool would it have been Peter had been caught by surprise by a large bolt of electricity, sending him tumbling across the dirt. Getting up into a battle ready position, he faces his attacker. (cue music) Electro is already in the process of reforming himself up on the power lines; absorbing and channeling the electricity into another blast as his semi solid body changes from blue to yellow.
Damn this film is something else. Absolutely love every second of it. The film has such a strong tone and it sticks to it. Brilliant character work, amazing music, most good visuals, and a magnificent message. Thank you to everyone that worked on this movie!
“That’s a neat trick. That sense of yours.” “Norman is on sabbatical honey.” “The hell?” “The goblin.” “No more darker half, did you really think that I let that happen. That I let you take away my power just because you blind to what true power can bring you. You a fascinating creature Spider-Man, you and I are not so different.” “You don’t know me.” “Don’t I? I chose my path, you chose the way of the hero. And they found you amusing, the people of this city. But the one thing they love more than a hero, is to see a hero fail, fall die trying. In spite of everything you done for them eventually they will hate you. I saw how she, your wizard… your mentor trapped you fighting their holy moral missions. We don’t need you to save us, we don’t need to be fixed! These are not curses, there gifts.” “Norman no.” “Quiet lapdog.” “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” “I’ve watched you through Norman’s cowardly eyes. Peter, you’re struggling… to have everything you want… while the world tries to make you choose. Gods don’t have to choose Peter. We take.”
@@josephcorcoran.7085 We should find a way to do this more often I haven’t had this much fun in awhile. 🥃So I propose a toast to great progress tomorrow and many other things which I will mention hopefully soon
I clicked on this not even realizing it was a rescore. When Electro's theme kicked in it genuinely caught me and it's a shame they didn't utilize it even a little for this moment.
We Don’t get Villains Like this anymore, villains that are evil because they enjoy it, because they crave power, looking down on everyone else. Instead they opt for “here’s my tragic backstory to justify my actions”
exactly. That's why I enjoyed Big Jack Horner in PIB so much. He was a villain because he enjoyed it, not because he had a tragic backstory or anything
Why is the original TASM: 2 suite fit so well? I think it was supposed to be used at some point Like the theory with Black Sabbaths Iron Man for Endgame
People do this more than you’d think. I’ve heard multiple stories of people that have no reason to doubt someone, but get a gut feeling and later found out they were dangerous.
Willem Dafoe was downright amazing in this movie. He was like the best actor in this movie and his performance, I would dare say, is too good for the MCU. The way he contorts his face into a big smile and laughs, even when he's being punched, it's really freaky, and it's something the MCU wouldn't really do that much, but Dafoe; he did it regardless! And he really reminds you how much of an amazing actor he is. And as well as Holland, Molina, Garfield and Maguire being incredible in this movie, Willem Dafoe, without a doubt, joins the lineup of this film's best characters. I didn't have any complaints with his character's performance and writing. He was very true to what his character was in the original movie. And he brought the darkest elements to the film as well and really put Peter through the ringer. And it speaks volumes that it took a villain from the original Spider-Man movies to do that. And as a result, he has gone from being a good villain for me, to a GREAT villain, becoming my second favourite Spider-Man villain behind Doc Ock.
This movie cemented why Goblin was always the goat Spidey cinematic villain, Willem Dafoe did amazing the first time around and somehow 20 some years later takes it up about 3-4 levels
I lgit thought this was the original clip from the movie, then I looked that one up, and man does this one SLAP! - PLEASE make more of this, especially with these two themes, they are amazing!
The Goblin is the top most formidable villain in the rogue gallery of Spider-Man. To not have him featured in the MCU is like not having magneto in a x-men story. It also add flare to MCU Spider-Man learning the important lesson of being a superhero; “the ones you love are always the ones who pay.”
Crazy how in a universe full of celestial beings, aliens, gods, the Green Goblin still proves to be one of the scariest villains whilst still being human, dude doesn't even originate from the MCU but still almost became a bigger threat than Thanos (blowing up the box which almost released many villains)
I've been reading a really great NWH fanfic that starts in this scene: it starts out the way that it did here, but Peter senses the danger of letting the Goblin talk and webs his mouth shut before he can convince the others to turn on them. He then succeeds in curing Norman, Max and Flint, but things only devolve from there with Connors escaping and Flint, using the opportunity of Ned and MJ arriving through a portal, to reverse the spell. However, doing that only sends back Max and Flint, leaving the others and the 2 Peters stuck here. They're then joined by Strange and Bruce Banner and come to the conclusion that this particular universe is drawing in power like a gravity well which is why this universe has so many more superhumans compared to Tobey and Andrew's worlds. As Max and Flint's power, the energy that had drawn them in, was dissipated, the gravity well could no longer hold them. The same was true of Connors after Strange and Peter-3 cured him: he was instantly sent back to his own world. Since then, the gang has moved to the rebuilt Avengers Compound while they try to figure out how to fix this. However, it turns out that Norman wasn't completely cured and that the Goblin still exists. Peter-1 reveals that because Norman changed his physiology with the performance enhancers, it wasn't something that he could actually reverse. Instead, Peter's cure worked by balancing Norman out more mentally, giving him a greater degree of control and the Goblin unable to lock him out entirely. The Goblin is also less insane as a result. Peter used Bruce's metaphor from Thor Ragnarök from when he talked about the Hulk's 2 years of non-stop control over their shared body: instead of Norman being locked in the trunk while the Goblin's in the driver's seat, they both have a hand on the wheel now. They've been using the Compound's equipment to better test everyone's abilities and learn to work as a team and even upgraded Otto's arms using nanotechnology. Peter later realized that Bruce wasn't actually Bruce but Talos posing as him as he did with Nick Fury in Far From Home. The most recent chapters features the gang discovering 2 more Multiversal visitors: the Harry Osborns from Tobey and Andrew's worlds. They have to break them out of Ravencroft which proves to be a pretty cool chapter with Otto, Peters 2 and 3, Talos and his people and Norman performing the actual breakout. And when I say Norman, I mean both Norman and the Goblin: it starts off with Norman in control as he's the better actor, but for the first time he willingly gives the Goblin control when he discovers that his son is one of the prisoners. Their hidden escape routes are two hidden portals maintained Strange and Ned. It's not quite a flawless escape, but they pulled it off.
If I’m being honest, I prefer when he said “We don’t need you to save us, WE DON’T NEED TO BE FIXED, these are not curses, they’re gifts” I swear, every time I hear that, I think “This mf isn’t one that messes around”
I can't believe no one is talking about the lizard being so wise all of a sudden the moment he said and so it begins it runs chills down your spine bro it's like he can see the future he knew that all of this was going to happen with the goblin emerging.
0:17 The Goblin is actually right. It was naive of Peter to trust the villain to accept his help. He already knew about the Green Goblin before and should have been cautious about him resurfacing at any moment
"Peter...you're struggling...to have everything you want...while the world tries to make you choose." It's like Goblin somehow knows about canon events...
Each time I hear his voice in these clips, it reminds me of Darth Sidious - that slow menacing way of talking, and the delivery of some of his lines - specifically "struggling to have eeeeverything you want" and later "too weak to take it!" Speaking of his voice, I love how the Goblin's return is made clear by the vocal shift in the scene before this one, when Doc Ock is asking if he's looking forward to having no darker half and being just him again. When Norman replies, "Just me," you can hear that it's really the Goblin speaking. I think he came back right then in response to what Doc Ock said.
