Premiered October 7, 1966. Sometimes I think that episode's names are purely random. I like how Casey jumps after door slam near 4:20. Wikipedia page about series en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gre...)
There was a lot of Racism towards Bruce Lee back then as well. Plus, the debate of which duo actually won the fight between The Green Hornet and Kato Vs Batman and Robin! The Network couldn't declare that The Green Hornet and Kato as winners, so The Batman series ran on, while The Green Hornet series ran out! How else can any of us explain the popularity of The Batman series, movies, cars and merchandise sales for all of these years, but The Green Hornet had fallen so far behind? We loved The Batman Movies, but that Green Hornet movie was just garbage!! It's a shame, honestly! Irregardless to whatever, there SHOULD'VE been more better made movies featuring The Green Hornet than just the crappy movie that Hollywood presented to us!!! I would rather have been like The Green Hornet than Batman growing up as a child!!! Adam West's Batman character looked like a Halloween 🎃 Costume, while with the exception of the mask, looked more realistic and that's what I could identify with!! It's like believing in Santa Claus. I learned before I turned 9, that MY PARENTS were my Santa Claus!!!
I strongly agree. Shows back then were quality & style. The Green Hornet had very low ratings & that was very important. Batman only lasted for 3 seasons & NBC almost picked it up. William Dozier tested out several more superhero characters but they never worked out. Dick Tracy & WonderWoman had failed. Anyways those years are gone. I do not like that many TV shows of today.
@@davidchan9632 And I agree with you on this too! As a child, I really didn't understand the ratings game, but as I grew up, I learned that I actually enjoyed The Green Hornet over Batman! Many people are not even aware that Keye Luke portrayed Kato during the 1940's. I had the series on VHS, but 1 of the tapes got destroyed a few years ago! What I find really sad 😢 is that sorry-ass Green Hornet movie that was made like a comedy a few years ago! Batman had quite a few movies, while The Green Hornet got 1 FORGETTABLE GARBAGE 🗑️ of a movie in which The Black Beauty was split in half and destroyed!!! That was not befitting of such a great series with a Great Master as Bruce Lee!!! Hollywood sometimes create Suck-Ass movies! Fans, like us, deserve BETTER Green Hornet movies than the garbage we got from them!!! That's what I 🤔 think!
@@derricklogan2058 The real reason why "The Green Hornet" only lasted for 1 season was because it was too boring for most children in the 1960s like me.
The Green Hornet has always had such a classy costume. It's the kind of costume that should be easy to find these days at a thrift store (except for the mask).
The late Van Williams had said in interviews that he was glad the Green Hornet only lasted one year. It was an incredibly difficult show to do both physically and mentally. He said they were on a very tight schedule and had to produce each episode in an incredibly short period of time. William Dozier also told ABC/Greenwood productions that if the show was to come back for a second season he wanted it to be a 1-hour show to expand the storylines/depth of characters (there was talk of developing Britt Reid's relationship with Miss Case). However, ABC balked at this as the cost would be too high (again the idea of future profits in syndication simply wasn't known at that time) so the show was canceled.
A baby boomer, I was only 8 when this show aired on ABC, always loved the theme song, thought Van Williams was a hunk , he, Bruce Lee and Miss Wende Wagner have left us way too soon, unfortunately we will never see this type of programming again, teary, fond memories of my childhood that went by too quickly...
here's what you had on Friday night in 1966-'67: Time Tunnel, WWWest, Tarzan, Man From UNCLE, T.H.E. Cat. , to name but a few. A VCR would've come in handy
The MUUUUSIC on this and other shows of the 60's to mid '70's! They don't do it like this anymore! Such groovy segways and themes sets the dynamics and theatrix. Hats off to those very talented musicians! Glad I got to see this show when it first aired back in the day. RIP Bruce and Van.
This series was one of my favorites. They don't make like this any more. I also watched the time tunnel that would follow green hornet. Thanks for getting hold of this old series.
@@lloydkline1518 The show only lasted a season, and so the traction for a series of TV movies just wasn't there at the time. If the show had started back in the 70s or 80s, things might've been different.
@@dannyr2976 van willians ( green hornet) said that green hornet tv show it needed an hour ;; ❤️ batman had lots of pretty woman like Linda gaye Scott she was on green hornet & batman ;scott tissue family member green hornet was a bette tv show ;; Burt ward said he met bruce lee before batman tv show they in live same apartment complex ::;burt ward study martial arts however bruce ward admit bruce lee was another level ( couple level above) laugh they said bruce lee was obssess with martal arts
Victor Jory was a rugged individual in real life. He had been a boxing and wrestling champ while serving in the coast guard. He wasn't a gent to give a hard time if you knew what was good for you according to those who knew him. And we have a case here of the Green Hornet & Kato meeting The Shadow because Jory portrayed Lamont Cranston aka The Shadow in the 1940 movie serial of the same name.
Barbara Babcock, who played Britt Reid's date, appeared on "Hill Street Blues" in the 1980s. Victor Jory, who played Charles Delaclaire, was The Shadow/Lamont Cranston in film serials in the early 1940s.
I mean obviously you can't really judge much from a 60s fight scene but I always thought that green hornet relied more on strength and Kato relied more on technique. That's what I always took away from the show
@ZoneFighter1 True. And in a couple of episodes Robin takes on three guys at the same time by himself and he is defeated by them. The same thing happened to Batgirl. However, put Kato in to fight with the same three guys by himself and you will see a different result!!!! Kato will beat the tar out of them and leave the three of them laying on the ground unconscious!!! This is proof of who is the better fighter. Lol!!!!
Happy Saint Patrick's Day WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATESAINT PATRICK'S DAY BY WATCHING THE GREEN HORNET AND REMEMBER STAY GREEN AND USE A LOT OF Irish Spring bars of SOAPS 🤣
I'm enjoy this series it not bad it use to be on TV when I was just two years old just now watching them didn't know until here on RU-vid watching some show old cartoon or something well anyway thank for putting the show on here.
“Another challenge for the Green Hornet, his aide Kato, and their roll in’ arsenal: the Black Beauty. On police records, a wanted criminal. The Green Hornet is really Britt Reid, owner/publisher of the Daily Sentinel. His duel identity is known only to his secretary and to the District Attorney. And now, to protect the rights and lives of decent citizens, rides THE GREEN HORNET!”
After 57 years, I'm still wondering why that elevator didn't go all the way down to the floor.... the DA could've fallen on his face and broken his "stylish" specs!! 😂 😂 😂
I was about to comment and ask what the name of the episode had to do with the plot but then I looked at the description and apparently I'm not alone lol.
I've been watching these on YT and ad good as they are, the music is far more impressive than anything I have yet seen. Absolutely stellar. It's like Herb Alpert and TJ brass band.
Trumpeter Al Hirt was maybe the most popular "serious" instrumentalist of the 1960s. You could see him on TV a lot in those days -- beefy, bearded guy. His big hit was called "Java."
@@daveconleyportfolio5192 thanks for that. I will be researching him and listening. It's tragic that we have to call him a TRUMPeter.. how about trumpet player. Not grating on the ears.
Totally awesome, highly underrated show, they need to do a decent remake, the one with Seth Rogen, totally stinked bombed! It's not a comedy, unbelievable, but ty ❤❤❤
The theme music when they are preparing to leave in the Black Beauty is very similar to Barbara Gordon's theme when she is going to transform into Batgirl from the Batman TV Show.
+torn mask If I remember correctly, the musical arranger for Green Hornet took over on Batman for Season 3, after Green Hornet was cancelled. Thus the similarities.
I wish Britt and Casey would start to like each other as more than just friends. None of the girls he dates are even half as nice as Casey; and she'd be a lot more understanding of why he'd have to run out in the middle of a date!
While watching it sounds interesting when we realize how the world changed a lot from those times for the times we're living at : no cell phones, no internet, no social media etc. How fast information flies nowadays :)
"Sometimes I think that episode's names are purely random." Pretty sure the title on this one came from the frogmen Glen Connors was using as henchmen.
I totally agree. It was never given the chance that Batman had though I enjoyed both. But the Green Hornet had a certain class to it though I am not decrying the Batman episodes. In the U.K, it was limited due to the producers terminating the show which had a good chance of succeeding. Nevertheless, DVD's can now rectify this blunder and fans can watch as often as often the Green Hornet.
At 4:38, Casey enters the room and says "Losing your touch?" More like losing your senses! Reid keeps dating these conniving, cold, grasping society posers when he has the lovely Miss Casey right in front of him. He fights pretty well for somebody with obviously marginal vision.
The blonde was in many Star Trek TOS eps mainly as voice talent. However she did appear in person for Plato's Stepchildren. She was the alien Captain Kirk wanted to kiss but her boyfriend forced Kirk to kiss the Black girl instead causing a big stir back in the 60s.
(thanks for the post in any case, always appreciated.) ...what's up with the screen time kato?,... Well, I guess I'll just have to go with the safe bet...,.
One of the problems this show had is that networks had just switched to broadcassting in color full time and this show was very dark in comparison to the bright colors of Batman. Plus Batman had well developed bad guy characters that people could relate to, the Green Hornet had none. Bruce Lee would have made for a perfect Robin in the Batman series.
Bruce Lee as Robin... ARE YOU MAD SIR?? That would mean the "sidekick" would be able to kick 10 times more butt then Batman could.. < laughs > EGAD! the CHAOS of it all !
Green Hornet's headquarters is no where as elaborate as the Batman (Adam West) bat cave but it is still very nice. But, most importantly, he has Kato (Bruce Lee) who is far better fighter than the Boy Wonder Robin (Burt Ward)!!! Lol!!! Bruce Lee is a weapon himself!!!! Lol!!!!!!
It irritates me that modern iteration of these heroes take such a schlocky attitude. Tke for instance the Lone Ranger Movie and the Green Hornet movies. They make the protagonist out to be such an idiot.
@@georgegriffin4668 the idea was to make it seem like a regular car but of course the police always recognized it. It was a revolving plate with a real , registered plate on the other side
Why do the cops think the Green Hornet is a crook? If the investigators examined all the cases they'd see theres never any indication of him being a crook.
