The Green Hornet wasn't as cartoonish as Batman was, and I liked both shows, too this day still mad that ABC canceled it and didn't give it the run it deserved, RIP Van, Bruce and Wende, forever apart of my 60s childhood, thankfully I can still watch some episodes on RU-vid..

I agree. Things made then were made to last and be reparable, now, if they break, just throw them away and buy a new one. Very sad. The shows of today, with a few exceptions, aren't worth watching.
The one and only episode in which Kato shows weakness: struck by surprise and thrown to the ground by the arsonist in the second fire, stumbling out half choked after putting up not too much of a fight with the bad guy in the third.... a weak script, or a stroke of genius, showing the Kung-Fu juggernaut is only human? In any case, a good episode of a deep, insightful series.
Wasn`t much of a fight because he quickly took him down. Not sure I see him being half chocked, he`s caughing because of the smoke. That said while it`s the first episode he was ever in trouble I like it. Serves to remind the audience that Kato is still human and liable to fall with a surprise shot.

First first of all that just a TV show and second JUST HE A HUMAN BEING NOT SUPER MAN OK THE SAME THING COULD HAPPEN TO YOU OR ME IF THAT WAS A BATMAN'S EPISODE WOULD YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT ROBIN LOOK BRUCE LEE IS A HUMAN BEING JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PERSON THAT WE AS PEOPLE WORSHIP stop praising him like he's God he's not Jesus only human okay people 😑
Van Williams became very good friends with Bruce Lee and demanded that the writers give him far more air time on the show--he knew that most people tuned into the show to see Kato in action and graciously (although he was the main character) tried to get him more story lines
@David Graham: Find the Green Hornet serials on here, in the movie serials Kato did most of the inventing of the Green Hornet arsenal. But he still spent a lot of time standing by the Black Beauty, a Lincoln Zephyr coupe Kato modified so that it was capable of speeds of up to 200 MPH...back before WW II.
@bufnyfan1 - Yes, this is true. Van Williams did speak to the show's writers to get Kato more screen time, especially for his fighting. But since the Green Hornet was the show's main character, they refused.
Wende virtually gave up acting in 1969,it was said because of Sharon's murder. It affected her badly and she moved onto other things. There is a lot of baloney about how the murders caused a 'loss of innocence' in LA and all that crap. Most of those celebrities only cared about themselves and keeping quiet. But a few, mostly friends of Sharon, were terribly affected. Wende was one of those.
We saw some of that with "Knight Rider," and I thought that was the most awesome car ever made. But that was the 1980's. A 21st-century Black Beauty would be even more mind-blowing than that.
Tom Strauss you guys in the states have way better channels than we do. You guys have the Heroes and Icon channel and we have the cottage channel. 😩 UGH
In spite of the tragic ending to this story, Axford came out looking pretty good, figuring out all by himself who the firebug was. The Axford character in the old radio series and the movie serials, is hard to listen to. He was a swaggering, arrogant Irishman, a former cop who became a combination reporter/bodyguard for Britt Reid, even living in Reid's home for a while, without figuring out who Reid was. He said "Sufferin' snakes!" and "Holy crow!" a lot, and played more of a comic figure than this Axford was.
Seriously, ben wade’s motivation is a bit complex, starting a few fires because he was forced into retirement by loss of his eye, so he can get the glory like he used to?
@Tony: Let me get this straight, and don't get me wrong, I believe what you're saying, because these are brain dead, bean counting network execs we're talking about here...Bruce Lee was denied the role on Kung Fu because of his Chinese accent? Because they were concerned that American audiences wouldn't understand him? He sounded pretty damn clear and concise on "Longstreet", didn't he? This is incredulous! Just watched an episode of Green Hornet here and had no problem understanding Bruce at all. This show was without a doubt, better than Batman, but ABC was afraid that this show would eclipse the mystique of the Caped Crusader and steal most of its' viwership away. Too late, where I was concerned, once I saw this program, I cut Batman loose! The Green Hornet had better episodes, storylines and characterizations. Leave it to a clueless network like ABC to cancel it, that's what they do, get rid of very good shows and replace them with total garbage. The Green Hornet could and should have run for far longer than it did....I hope some network out there does a remake of the series for today's audiences, however challenging that's going to be...

Lee appeared on only a few episodes of "Longstreet", but Lee probably had more lines on "Longstreet" than the entire series of "The Green Hornet". I had no trouble understanding Lee giving martial arts instruction to the blind Longstreet portrayed by the late James Franciscus. Also, the premise of "Kung Fu" was Bruce Lee's. Lee pitched the idea to the network. You can imagine how hurt he was when the network executives denied him the lead role. Van Williams has said that "The Green Hornet" would have fared better as an hour-long show. I agree. "Batman" was a spoof of superheroes. "The Green Hornet" was not.

BisonAP It was the 60s .... racism was growing. Studio execs wouldn’t dare put a Chinaman in a lead role. What would the white folks of America think.!!! Instead, they put Asians in roles like butler, laundry man, gardener, a stool, and so on.
Bruce Lee couldn't have pulled off the roll on "Kung Fu"... the character of Cain although he could and would fight when pushed too far he was first and foremost a pacifist. In Lee's original concept for "Kung Fu", he titled the show "The Warior"... his characterization of Cain would most likely have portrayed him with an arrogant swagger that be far from what David Caridean brought to the roll Bruce Lee was never able to play humble, just picture his take on the interplay with the student in the beginning of "Enter the dragon" To be honest Bruce Lee could only really play Bruce Lee.
I would love to see a reboot of the Green hornet. Keep the black beauty especially with the changing colors that was cool 😎 Jet li I would like to keep as Kato but please someone else to play Britt Reed, and the hornet
It's REALLY 😂 cause BATMAN was comic while GREEN HORNET was serious now the roles have change I think another Green Hornet movie and make the BLACK BEAUTY a Dodge charger with black wheels now who would think would be GREAT in casting ??
When I was in the military, depending on how close we knew you lived to the base you ALWAYS got a "visit" from someone in the unit if you were 15/30 minutes late...provided we weren't super busy. Most military organizations keep close tabs on their people. Out of the military, when we wanted to make sure a VALUED employee was okay, we at least called when they didn't show up. It was one way you knew how important you were.

thank goodness axford didn’t utter his usual phrase: “that really burns me up”! something puzzles me about the beginning here. the phone to the warehouse certainly was connected to the switchboard rather than having its own line. how did the arsonist get to that in order to make the call, and how was he able to set the bomb without anyone noticing?
It was the diamond cutter's home in Programmed to Kill and office and it was the Psychology Department outside which the professor was killed in Beautiful Dreamer.
It wasn't the last time The Green Hornet fought against an arsonist. In the early 1990s, NOW Comics published a lot of Green Hornet comic books until 1994. Among them, there was a tale reminiscent of this particular episode against a man called Inferno.
@ZoneFighter1 In the movie serials, Ms Case doesn't know that Britt Reed and Green Hornet are the same guy. I can't remember, but it might be that Mike Axeford does know, in the serials. Odd how they made little " tweeks " when moving from radio, to movie serial, to tv.
In the movie serials, Ms Case doesn't know that Britt Reed and the Green Hornet are 1 and the same. However, she thinks that everyone is mis-judging the Green Hornet, that he is really a good guy.

the book mentioned that this was the last episode. I've read in other books that the invasion from outer space part 2 was the last episode. anyway I still miss those days. just wished THE GREEN HORNET lasted for several more seasons like BATMAN.
