The wet sponge is extremely important. Soaking the scalp with brine water (water containing salt) conducts electricity more efficiently than just placing the skull cap of the electric chair on the flesh covering the scalp itself. Making the death quicker and, in theory, less painful. But it can’t be purified water, it HAS to be salt water. And the salt MUST be dissolved. Purified water containing no salt is actually an insulator, not a conductor. Fun fact: Most fresh water actually contains salt and other minerals naturally, but sometimes it’s only in small amounts. So they would dissolve extra salt into the water they used to soak the sponge just to ensure there was as little resistance as possible so that the electrical current fried the brain faster. Also, pool water is actually a very good conductor because the chlorine used to treat it contains chlorine ions that conduct electricity very efficiently. Which is why most public pools enforce strict storm safety precautions and make everyone leave the water if there is a storm approaching because lightning can strike even miles away from the storm center. I probably sound like a huge nerd…But oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️😂😂😂

Yes. Absolutely pure water will NOT conduct electricity. However, I wouldn't run out and try to test this unless you have access to a chemistry lab or something. Making, storing, and keeping water 100% pure isn't as easy as it may seem.

The last few words of this movie always give me chills, no matter how many times I see it. Both that part, and "...If he can make a mouse live for so long, then how much longer must I have?" @@KrisFlicks This may sound strange but I envy that-- I only first realized (firsthand) that endorphins can get released along with crying when I saw "Inside Out" for the first time... at age 30. That movie basically turned me into a tearjerker seeker. The ironic thing was... I found out it was really hard to find movies that triggered really good cry sessions from me (I really noticed that when I started looking for tearjerkers on PURPOSE lol). A few years after "Inside Out", I stumbled upon "Interstellar", which definitely worked, then "My Girl," and there are two even more recent ones that triggered the most intensely tearful reactions from me: "The Land Before Time" and (7 months after that one) "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Interestingly, for that last one, I did virtually all my crying AFTER the movie ended (I guess the wheels in my head had some room to start turning then (?))

@sathvamp1
@sathvamp1 9 месяцев назад
@@Morris1581 I've seen a lot of reactions to those... unfortunately BEFORE watching the full movies on my own, and it took me a while to figure out that seeing short clips tends to desensitize me in certain ways. Also, especially relevant to movies like Schindler's List, I have also discovered that if I feel anger or anxiety, that tends to inhibit tears for some reason. The MOST extreme example of that I've ever seen in myself is probably when I saw the Korean version of "Miracle in Cell No. 7." During THAT movie, it was as though the emotions of "Anger" and "Sadness" were fighting an epic fight in my head lol. Quite uncomfortable actually. I FINALLY shed some tears the next DAY when I was writing a RU-vid comment about how I would have felt better if the movie had portrayed ways of mitigating the anger-inducing parts. On another note, I do have an interesting update: Until ONE particular movie... I had yet to cry to a RE-watch of ANYthing. But a couple of weeks ago, I discovered my FIRST "repeater tearjerker"... which (if you count watching reactions, reading or writing comments etc) got me a total of 11 TIMES. That is totally unheard of for me. For some reason or another, that movie happened to be "Nimona."

The book kinda just suggests that some people are just evil. And Percy is one of those people. There was a bullying carer in the nursing home who reminded Paul (Hanks) of Percy. That Said, I read this well over 20 years ago so happy to Be corrected by anyone who’s read it more recently.
@animegopher
@animegopher 8 месяцев назад
@theprophet9429 Nope, I've read it recently. You nailed it. Some people are just evil. And when John gave his judgement to Percy and Bill, it's kind of like God (JC) giving his. However, there are ALSO those that, even though they've done evil things or may have been evil in the past, they are no more. Think the native fella or Del. They've done HORRIBLE things, but they feel genuine remorse. The idea of the book is definitely to question the reader on their morals and whether or not it's wrong to feel empathy or compassion to those who have done bad. Great read. Great movie.
@simpleysims
@simpleysims Год назад
I love how compassionate Hannah is even for some of the most evil minded characters in this film like Percy. She really said something like "he can be helped too." And really, that was the purpose of this film. It was look past the veil and into the hearts and minds of human beings. It really stretched the question to the viewers. How far will you go to show compassion for another individual? No matter what they've done.

Man nobody will probably read this, but just in case someone does. This was truly a great reaction. Back when this movie came out, I didn't cry. I made myself so hard and was paying attention to my wife who was balling her eyes out. That kept me from crying that day. Fast forward however many years it's been since this movie came out. I had a massive heart attack in my doctors office. This was on 9/14/2021. I died that day for 8 minutes and some change at the age of 45. Life is so much different now. I'm retired now and my wife want let me do anything that causes me any kind of stress. My heart doctor made things even worse when he told EVERYONE that I should be dead and in the ground. You see I had 100% blockage in the so called Widowmaker artery and 90% blockage in one of the others. The doctor literally had just ran an EKG on me and yelled at the nurse to please hurry on getting the ambulance there. She looks at me and says to me, Mr. Jason, you are having a F^&$ing heart attack right now!!!!! She saved my life. When the other doctors where telling her to just stop and call the T,O,D. She kept on shocking me and she told it was all or nothing on the last shock. They turned that thing up all the away and hit me. I was released the next day from the hospital!!!!!! I had 2 stents, 6 broken ribs and a severe torn left pectoral muscle!!!!! My doctor that worked there at the Doctors office, he was fired the very next day!!! I had been telling him that something was wrong with my heart and he said OK OK, well let's get this blood pressure down first. Man I drove myself to the doctors office at 9:30am having a heart attack. It's a 40 minute drive from my house. When I git 8 miles from the office, I called my wife and told her just how much I loved her and my 3 kids. I could barely breathe when I was talking to her and I had to hang up. Needless to say, live life to your fullest, enjoy the company you keep. Like a song I heard a long time ago, live like you are dying. Peace love and cheerios. With love take care.

It takes place in the most macabre, depressing setting ever, but taps into something so primally sweet, innocent, and human within us. And in answer to your question about Del, we find out in the book that he did kill some innocent people, but it was by accident. He tried to burn down a house to kill someone who had wronged him (can't remember what the guy did against him), but there were other people in the house who also died. I strongly recommend the Stephen King novel.

In the book, Dale was convicted of raping and killing a young girl, then trying to cover up his crime by burning her body. The fire was near an apartment building that caught on fire and killed six more people, including two children. So I feel bad for him, but also feel his execution is not necessarily unjustified.

Then you’ve forgotten what Paul narrates about it. (I’m doing this from memory, so it might not be spot on) “It was the only crime he had in him.” The thing that had committed the crimes leaves most of the criminals once they’ve done it. “It vacates and leaves us to kill husks that aren’t really men any more.” And his thoughts at the end of the book, “Fragile as blown glass we are, even under the best circumstances. To kill each other…. The horror. The folly.” The book has more room to make Del sympathetic while still not shying away from the fact that he is a rapist who inadvertently murdered children. The movie was very smart not to try to make that work for this medium.
@j0nt
@j0nt Год назад
I think it's not about insinuating Del is innocent. I think it's more about showing you that even people who committed heinous crimes can be decent people otherwise. People deserving of respect. That shows far more humanity. Also worth noting: Ash, you were wanting them to stop the electrocution, but that would have just meant Del was sitting there cooking alive. Keeping it on will kill him faster.

The ‘janitor’ is actually an Orderly. He is also an inmate but just not a death row one. They are given more privileges such as freer movement around the prison especially as they do their duties and possibly better food and/or living quarters.

In some institutions they are called "Trustees" because they've demonstrated good behavior and are given special privileges over other inmates. Where I worked they were allowed to stay in the TV room for two hours after lights out so they could watch whatever they wanted and ate their meals in the kitchen and were allowed extra helpings if they wanted. Sometimes they were allowed to choose a meal from fast food as a reward.

The actor Michael Clarke Duncan who played J.C found it so hard to film this movie. He could be found many days sat by the river crying his heart out. He said it was because he felt the pain of so many innocent men and women in jail or on death row who were set up to be guilty because of their skin colour or because they were close by to the scene. Losing Michael Clarke Duncan so young was such a loss to us all and many were only just discovering his work. May big Mike rest in peace. blessed be.

It's one of the most emotionally effective films ever made, in my opinion. Hannah, I too often still cover my face with my hands when I cry - a throwback to my childhood when it was shameful to cry since my siblings and every kid in school would tease me, leaving me with the impression. I know now though that reacting emotionally shows how human we are, and being human is nothing to be ashamed of. I held back the tears watching E.T. for the first time (at the age of six ffs!).

IMO there's no debate that Darabont doing SK material, like Shawshank and Green Mile and The Mist, is the top of the mountain for movies. And to think, Darabont asked SK for The Dark Tower, and SK laughed him off... "How he didn't win Best Supporting Actor for this is beyond me", politics. Michael Cane delivered an epic performance, and, his movie had an abortion theme. Hillary Swank killed her performance too, but IMO, she won the Oscar because of politics too. Playing transgender. 2000 is when the woke stuff started ramping up and Hollywood started to die.

Great but not entirely flawless. Here are 3 that I think diminsh it. Flaw 1: John's supposedly great epiphany that made him want to die is extremely lame. Are we to understand that his biggest issue with Wild Bill's is that he killed the thing he loved? Seems to me that raping and killing two little girls was the far greater crime and that Bill's feelings when he did it are of little or no account. Flaw 2: That John would intentionally transmit evil into anyone is very much out of character and not the sort of thing someone with such a supposedly holy soul would do (vengeance being reserved for God not man). Flaw 3: I think it suffered by being about 5 minutes too long. And I agree with Ash that it should have ended with John's death. That last bit with the mouse and all the lofty words were anticlimactic and distracting from the main message of the movie, that the death penalty is an archaic, inhumane practice and that good and evil can be found on both sides of prison bars.

One thing this movie really gets is how especially here in the US we think of prisoners as being no longer human and being incapable of kindness or redemption, much less being innocent. And so many on death row particularly in the deep south are mentally challenged, brain damaged or severely schizophrenic. There is nothing preventing any outrage being committed against them or any incentive in the system to treat them with decency and kindness. But if you open your heart you might find that many aren't monsters at all and some are indeed lovely people who were wrongly convicted and could give the world so much

At first I was irritated because there wasn't much of the movie shown in your reaction, which was mainly because I wanted to watch it again, but watching you two piece together the plot to predict subsequent scenes quickly quelled my irritation. As a film student long ago, to hear you talk of the movie the way my fellow students and I dissected other ones on a graduate level made this reaction video the best I have seen by any of the RU-vid reactors on any video by far. Finding women who cried while watching this movie are a dime a dozen. Finding a man who was as emotional as I and who snotted as much as I did... Priceless.

I have watched reaction videos for years now and I have never grown to love a channel so much as I have y’all’s. Hannah, you are truly an amazing woman. 💚 Much love from Tennessee.

I love the way she realised "the I took it back" regarding Tom coffee well before me! The moment he healed Tom Hanks she knew! It honestly took me a while. Well done. Love the reactions btw. Great film but one I can barely watch (Dell's execution)

1- Love your reactions. 2- The "flies" - according to the book - represent all the evil on earth, that's why when they are seen, a strange sound is heard between screams and roars. Then Persy's mind, already disturbed, could not contain all these visions and sensations.

You can watch it again. I've watched it several times. And reactions of it a couple of times lately, this being one of them. Great movie. The gentle and vulnerable nature of the giant. It's such awesome performances by all actors in this movie, just fantastic!
