Bruce Willis did us a favor when, after working with Michael Clarke Duncan, he recommended him for this role. The variety of roles he played shows his versatility.
I want to thank you sweet young ladies, for your reaction to the Green Mile. You two are the ONLY reactors I have watched that did the Green Mile that actually showed ALL of the lines that I think were the really important ones in this movie, most reactors either skip them, or show only one or two. NONE of them ever showed the last 3 in the ending, when Paul says he thinks about all the people he's lost, and then the line: "the thing that keeps me up most nights, if he can make a mouse live so long, how much longer do I have?" (THAT is the line that MOST reactors totally leave out) and "Sometimes the Green Mile seems so long." The other one that most leave out is when John Coffey explains WHY he wants to die, wants it to be over.....mainly where he says "I'M TIRED OF PEOPLE BEING UGLY TO EACH OTHER" and "IT"S LIKE PIECES OF GLASS IN MY HEAD" THANK YOU AGAIN for including those important (and impactful) lines in your reaction. This is one of my FAVORITE movies. RIP Michael Duncan Clark.
@patticrichton These two beautiful ladies are also like angels just like John Coffey. However I rececomend you also check out " The Homies - Ellie Landgo ,Michelle Moonsugar, Viki and Lia" reaction to The Green Mile because they really are angels with their reactions to The Green Mile , The titanic e.t.c. , especially Ellie Landgo though , she always shows so much Raw emotions more than anyone I have ever come across and I love that about her. These ladies here though reacting to The Green Mile are also Beautiful angels aswell In their own way with the emotions they are showing.
That's true, I'm an atheist. The part that gets me is when he asks. On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say?
@@Echo4Bravo I think that Tom Hanks really showed the agony he felt at not being able to do anything. Regardless of whether there is a god to judge him, he is judging himself very harshly. It makes me cry whenever I see it.
@@Echo4Bravo The part that gets me most is the hopelessness when he contemplates how much longer he might live if Mr Jingles has already lived over 60 years. At that point you realise that the film was a horror story all along and he is in perpetual suffering much like John Coffey was.
One additional point to keep in mind. I saw another commenter (Poor Finian) mention in a different reaction that a urinary tract infection had no cure in the 1930s, so even going to the doctor probably wouldn't help much. The first antibiotic, penicillin, was only discovered in 1928 and wasn't used on a patient in the U.S. until 1942. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan. An astounding performance. I'd definitely recommend you react to Shawshank Redemption. Another Stephen King masterpiece. Great reaction ladies. Subscribed.
I had one when I was a 17yrs old and first started getting busy in the sack. So I had no idea what was wrong with me. I told my girlfriend, she started crying. I thought it might be an STD. I was afraid to tell my parents or anyone. I rode that pain out for a week. It is absolutely brutal. Truly like pissing razor blades. The pain got so bad that I literally fainted one morning while going to the bathroom and that's when I finally caved and told my Dad.
For anyone that needs diy relief.. put bicarbonate of soda in a glass with some water.. add lemon juice and when it stops fizzing drink it. It’s disgusting but it helps. Bicarb works okay on its own if you don’t have lemon juice (bottled or fresh) but with the juice is better. There’s science behind it but I’m too lazy to google
@@hejmonika1001Also pure unsweetened cranberry juice with a sips worth of gin or vodka. Got a UTI when I was 14 and my granddad poured me that remedy along with plenty of water. Had me cleared up in about 5 days.
Did you notice the guy Paul (Tom Hanks) was speaking with at one point was Gary Sinise who played with Tom Hanks as "Lt. Dan Taylor" in the movie Forest Gump?
Well, now you've got to react to 'Shawshank Redemption" if you like Stephen King!..There's a good chance you'll like it even better than this one!..It's almost a flawless movie...Nice job, ladies!..Great reaction!
From what I've read about the movie, the Green Mile was inspired by the case of George Stinney in 1944, when 2 young girls were killed. George Stinney was the youngest person to ever get the electric chair, being only 14. He was so small, they had to stack books for him to sit on to be tall enough. His arrest, trial and execution happened all in the same year, and only years later was it investigated further and found that the confession they got from him was most likely coerced and that his 6th amendment had been violated. They gave John a childlike innocence to reflect the innocence and youth of Stinney, rather than making John, 14 himself (likely also for creative reasons that suited the more fictitious elements of the story)
Great reactions y'all. You've beaten most others to the idea of how old John could be. Another thing everyone misses is that John is ALWAYS obeyed. That's something that took me almost 20 years to realize. No one really interfered when John (or the Power that acts through John) when he resolved to take action. They just sort of stand back. Even Percy holds he mouth open in accordance with John's will. The only exception is when he tells Paul to stop feeling bad and blaming himself, "Just quit on it!" Paul really should have, because if John had wanted a different outcome he could have made it happen. Paul owes no atonement. He's a good man.❤❤
"The only exception is when he tells Paul to stop feeling bad and blaming himself, "Just quit on it!" Paul really should have" The problem with that is that John is dead and can't affect the outcome anymore.
That's one other thing that John Coffey shares in common with Jesus Christ besides their initials, healing powers, their many scars and dying for the sins of another. There are examples of both men just essentially saying "This is how it's gonna be." and walking away without anyone trying to stop them. John Coffey is clearly, to me anyway, meant as a miraculous and messianic figure.
Y’all just remember, this took place in 1935… it was a different world back in those days. Evidence wasn’t as easily proven (good or bad) back then, unfortunately!
Like Green Mile there's another Stephen King story made into a great film, "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994) by the same director Frank Darabont. An awesome movie starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, also about prison you may like better.
Yes, ladies, John Coffey is a Christ figure. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He had foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus.
One of the messages I wish people would take away from this movie is the fact Percy, with all his cruelty, wanted to work in a mental health facility. Why do you think this is? For the potential of abuse of helpless, mentally vulnerable people. I've seen a lot of mental illness in my family, and this is a real and scary reality. There are a lot of predators that put themselves in the position of caregivers so they can give anything but care to the people dependent on them. It always kind of bothered me that they were fine putting Percy in that job field knowing exactly what he was. As long as they didn't have to see it. It's kind of the attitude people take with the mentally ill, homeless in general 😡
Percy had sexual obsessions, was cruel to animals, and an overprotective aunt. Put him in a place with unprotected vulnerable people and the outcome would be predictably bad.
Great job with the editing. You captured most of the relevant parts that were integral to the story. I've seen channels much bigger than yours not do as well.
Screenwriter / Director Frank Darabont made this masterpiece from a Stephan King story. He also pulled another Stephan King story to make another must-watch masterpiece of cinema - "The Shawshank Redemption".
1. YOU WILL CRY 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD)😇 and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part. 7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌EVERYONE hates him. 10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge. 11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller. 12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off. 13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced. the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. (GOAT) 15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
And hell, most of them aren't even inmates. Most would be patients with non-violent mental disorders or disabilities. So yeah, Percy would basically be bullying Rain Man. What John did to him needed to be done.
Ryl is knocking this one out of the PARK, throughout the whole movie she's been two steps ahead on every development. Lost track of how many times I laughed and muttered to myself, "yep, that's exactly right, she's got it." Looking forward to watching your other stuff! This movie is one of the most special, indescribable movies. One of the few Titan examples of straight magical realism in hollywood, it's a genre they tend to keep at a distance because it's so darn difficult to do correctly.
Thumbs up ladies . Thumbs up for the fact that of the countless reactions I've seen to this movie , you two had the smartest and most intuitive comments of maybe all of them . Nice .
I'm a recent subscriber and I really enjoy your reactions. You're both very thoughtful and insightful. You understand what's going on and predict what is likely to happen very quickly, plus you feel all the emotions that are being depicted in the movie you're watching. I rate this movie as my favorite (or in my top 3 at least) because of the story, the acting, and the emotional impact that it has. I'm a big fan of Stephen King and have read many of his books and short stories. He's an incredibly gifted and prolific author. For something different based on a Stephen King novel (novella) please watch The Shawshank Redemption. It's an amazing movie as well. Keep up the great work both of you!
Moral: Angels aren't always blond haired, white skinned, women with wings. Angels can come to us in any manner. People automatically saw this big, strong, black man as someone bad. But, those who knew him knew that he was sent from God.
This movie takes place primarily in the 1930s, antibiotics like penicillin weren't widely available until the 1940s. So Paul would probably just have been admitted to a hospital for a while while they let out run its course
Such amazing storytelling by the goat-Stephen King. I saw this in the theater when it first came out and when the lights came up everyone was crying and we all had a good laugh. I still cry watching this movie. I enjoyed y'alls reactions to this. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan.
One of the Top 5 reactions I've ever watched, and the edit was just amazing. It's sad when you think about it that we're all walking our own Green Mile, but walking with that knowledge hopefully makes us enjoy and cherish the gift we've been given. To God be the glory. You both are really really good at this.
Ladies We have to give thanks to Bruce Willis by giving us Michael Clarke Duncan aka Big Mike. Big Mike and Bruce worked together on a previous year's movie, Armageddon. Bruce suggested Big Mike as John Coffey for Green Mile to its producers. According to his close friends, Big Mike was like his character, a gentle giant.
Anyone saying: "Race ain't got nothin' to do with this story," needs to take their illiterate butt to the library---and get the book. I'm amazed at how people can just casually watch this movie; experience the rollercoaster of emotions that the story takes you through; dry their eyes; THEN...turn on their echo chamber of choice--and UNDO everything they accidentally learned about race in the previous 2 1/2 hours. I suppose the only way to do that is to tell yourself: "Race didn't have nothin' to do with that movie." I truly believe that humans are, (perhaps) the most bewildering, self-destructive, and disappointing MISTAKE that God ever created. While we all like to think we're Tom Hank's character "Paul"...far too many of us are just: "Percy". Whether we realize it--or not.
movies like this is not made now a days, it´s so sad because they are so good and timeless. this is a classic just like forest gump. and also the same actors.
Just saw your reaction.. one thing.. it may have been pointed out elsewhere in comments, but.. "John didn't deserve this.." John wanted his life to end. You touched on it a bit when you wondered how long John had lived.. he's likely centuries old. Combining the "empathic" and telepathic qualities John displayed, his comment that "it's like this all over the world," and "it's like shards of glass inside my head." Humanities disregard for fellow humans through murder, war, rape, etc. John "felt" the weight of "humanities inhumanity towards humans." And he was tired of it. Knew he'd always have to feel that, and I believe, what he meant by telling Paul, "tell The Father it was a kindness you done." Paul, and the rest of them were "putting John out of his misery." Beautiful, gut-wrenching movie. I saw it in the theater when it was first released. I have it on DVD. I watch it every now and then because the writing is excellent, the acting is excellent, and despite my being an atheist, a powerful film.
My theory on why the warden let John in: John said he wanted to help. In the Warren's eyes, John was a killer, not a healer. The warden let him in thinking he could put her out of her misery.
Well that doesn't explain why he kept telling John and Paul that he didn't want anyone going in the room. My theory is that among John's lesser known powers is he has a very dominant power of suggestion. When he wants to do something, people don't really try to stop him. Or they simply can't, like Percy.
Good points about why John passed the illness onto Percy. One other reason was to keep him from hurting people in general which he certainly would have done at the asylum. I also have a little misgiving about John doing anything harmful at all as it seemed so out of character for him as a very innocent, healing person. But when all is said and done, he seemed to do what would cause the least harm for everyone.
I think that is why John was executed. It was time for him to go back and sit on the right side of his father. God the father said "vengeance is mine" and John, his son overstepped his bounds
Alright technically he did not pass the illness on to Percy he used it as a catalyst to show Percy and get him to punish wild bill because you should notice after he killed billy those came right back out
@@thomasdavis5675 Yes, I just used "illness" as a vague term (bad fruit fly stuff?)for whatever he passed on and that, in the end, it put Percy in the asylum as a patient. With that mentality he belonged there in any case.
They made Dale a remorseful sad person in this movie. In the book he did horrible thing too get in there. He r@ped a 13 year old girl, burned the body in an alley and accidentally burned down an apartment building killing 4 more. Dale was not a good person.
Tom hanks is an amazing actor and he doesn’t make bad movies. If you want to see another good Tom hanks movie watch a man called Otto. And bring your tidsues
One thing to remember is that life ramps up from childhood until 35, then ramps down until death. I have learned this the hard way. At 62 I became disabled, slowly. I’m 65 and my abilities decline month by month. It’s important to appreciate your health while you have it. ❤ Sometimes the green mile seems so long.
If only, sadly... Children wouldn't die of leukemia or other illnesses - just barely born - if age had so much to do with it. Far too many people experience horrible things far to young, and far too many die from them. Just treasure every day you have. That is all we can do. The rest might not be in our hands.
It wasn't until 1937 that the first antibiotic (sulfanilamide) that could treat urinary tract infections became available. Prior to that, there wasn't a whole lot doctors could do for you. Either your body eventually healed itself or you died.
I think John Coffey feels things depending on how close or powerful they are, so because Del was very far, I think John only felt a tiny fraction of Del's pain. If anyone felt *exactly* what Del felt and lived, they'd go catatonic. The mind would completely disintegrate and go blank.
Clicked on this one randomly and enjoyed your reaction. Nice reaction guys, you caught a ton of the great things about the film and glad you talked through what happened with what the Big Guy did with the tumor, 2 bad guys got taken off the board, 2 evil men in their own way and beyond rehabilitation. I think on my 3rd watch of this movie a dark thought came to mind: Had Percy been allowed to go on and as normal, and transfer to the Briar Asylum, I thought about all of the untold heinous acts and terror Percy could have done to the patients(and even the staff) with all that authority... in an asylum where people would be less prone in believing you if Percy got his clutches on you. Can't count on a crew as fine as Tom Hanks guys being there to checking Percy, and they barely could at that. Didn't kill the man, but surely took his deranged mind and power away from the ability to harm others. Grown man so likely Percy was never going to change. That asylum would have been a very dark playground for him. Anywho, wasn't expecting to cry today but this is one story that does it every time😅🤙🏽
There's many reactions channels, but not so many you can relate to. Even though I am a Russian man and you are on the so-called "other side" of the relationship, I can't help but notice how cute you both are. After Forrest Gump, I immediately thought there was something about these gals. +1 sub. From Moscow with love! Keep it up.
Since 1985 The Innocence Project has found hundreds of people on death row to be innocent of the crime for which they were scheduled for execution. This is just from the 1980s. Based on this fact alone, this country has certainly executed innocent people. This is the single greatest argument against the death penalty.
Such beautifully tragic story of a gentle giant who has the Shining. In Stephen King's multiverse, those who Shine the strongest are usually powerful psychics and mediums who may manifest other powers, like John's healing and long life seen here. The Shining and Doctor Sleep really expand on the lore of these powers. A lot of Stephen King's protagonists, and some villains, shine to some extent or another whether they know it or not. Some of the most powerful 'shiners' can be seen in Carrie, Firestarter, The Stand, The Dead Zone, Dreamcatcher, The Dark Tower, and the HBO series The Outsider.
@Jyn x Ryl I hope your OK, hugs for you both 🤗, its ok to cry and show your emotions, you have a real heart of gold both of you imo . I have subscribed to your RU-vid channel and liked your video because how you reacted to The Green Mile ❤❤. The Green Mile is not a easy movie to watch, you have real heart of gold just like anyone else who can watch this real heartbreaking movie all the way through , as I admit I can't watch any of the executions, I especially can't and won't ever bring myself to watch John Coffey's execution or watch him be violated again by being spat on or spat at after attempting to save those thos two poor, sweet, innocent little girls. Its ok to cry and show your emotions, especially if your crying for the beautiful, sweet, loving, kind , caring soul , angel of a man and a true gentle giant of a man John Coffey 😇❤😪😢😭🤧. Its also ok to show your emotions of Digust and hatred towards characters such as percy and definitely to show your hatred and Digust towards wild bill. I hate that wild bill character for what he done to them innocent, sweet , poor little girls and having John Coffey take the blame and punishment for wild bill's sick , dusturbing ,disgusting actions 😡😤🤬 . However it's a shame percy and most of all wild bill didn't get executed as they both deserved it (more than being shot and sent to a mental hospital, they both deserved to suffer a long hard painful death) and i would happily watch them both be executed, especially wild bill as him and percy got off too easy imo. I hate the fact wild bill has the same nickname as me "bill" because what he as done to them poor , sweet innocent little girls 😪😤. I hate percy, but I really hate wild bill a lot more 🤬😤. John Coffey is a 😇 🙌🏻 and its clear and obvious why he's a reference to Jesus Christ😇🙏. R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan AKA John Coffey 😇🙏🙌🏻❤❤. P.S. i know this scene of by heart now as i have seen it so many times and its probably my favourite scene of the whole Green Mile movie , where John Coffey says " I'm tired boss, I'm tired of being on the road lonely as a Sparrow in the rain , I'm tired of having nobody to be with ,no one to talk to , Ask me where we are going or why , but most of all I'm tired of everyone being ugly to each other, it's like pieces of glass in my head can't you understand boss? " that is , was and always will be a real eye opener for me and everyone that watches this movie to see what the world for what it truely is , because John Coffey speaks the truth in that scene right there 😢😪❤. The song at the end of The Green Mile movie always gets me and instally makes me think of John Coffey, also whenever i see or am near a fields / corn fields i think of John Coffey straight away.
Relax, ladies. What Wild Bill splooshes from his mouth onto Brutal's face is the chewed-up chocolate Moon Pie he bought from Toot, the janitor/trustee. No need to get repulsed. Regarding the disparaging language and attitudes about Blacks: remember, this movie takes place in 1935 Louisiana, era of Jim Crow and worse. Speaking of mistreating people, imagine Percy "in charge" at the mental facility (Briar Ridge) -- UGH! You Ladies are way ahead of the game, yourselves are "fortune tellers," reading all the cinematic and language hints to know what's what, plotwise. Great job. John's a "Child of Nature," knowing the stars and reveling in the smell of leaves and grass. Note that the more severe the malady John cures, the more earth-shaking and lightbulb-blowing events occur. You may agree with me that John may be "slow," but definitely IS NOT AN IMBECILE! To me, the most poignant line in the whole movie is from John, sitting in "Old Sparky": "I'm sorry for what I am." Not for what he did, for he's innocent; but "for what I am."
The Cherokee, Bitterbuck beat another man to death over some footware . . . .in a drunken brawl, with a block of concrete. He deserved to be zapped 3 more times, just to be sure. The Cajun, Delacroix raped a woman he didn't know, committed murder to conceal the crime, committed arson to conceal THAT crime, and in doing so caused several other deaths. He DESERVED tbe cooked slowly, for at least another couple of hours. As for the other inmates on "the Mile", all of them ended up right where they should have. (Although Coffey's case is obviously more problematic and complicated.) "Wild" Bill got off too easy, and Percy wasn't even aware of his own circumstances. Don't waste your pity on any of them, Coffey included. He wouldn't have wanted it.
I am a retired police officer from Berlin - Germany, and for a long time I was with a special unit that was responsible, among other things, for the capture and arrest of serious and serious criminals. I dare say that I have some experience with such people. This also includes their attempts to manipulate other people in order to carry out their actions with as little or no resistance as possible. Alarm bells ring almost immediately for Mr. Coffey. Despite the crimes he was accused of and convicted for, you can tell that something is completely wrong here. He doesn't have any of the negative attributes that perpetrators of this type usually have. He is empathetic, his external appearance hides the obvious high level of intelligence, compassionate, an animal lover (for many perpetrators it begins with the mistreatment and barbaric way of killing animals), a person you like to have around and much more. The exact opposite of "Billy the Kid" who soaks up the emotions of someone's execution like a sponge soaks up water. Billy is the monster behind the bars. Percy in front of the bars. A sadist, a cowardly, unscrupulous pig (apologies to the pigs) and what harm could this monster, as a psychiatric employee, have done? I am an atheist myself and can completely understand the arguments for wanting Mr. Coffey dead. No matter what the further human development of humanity will be, hatred, violence and much more will never shed this “peak of evolution”. How should and can a good person endure this in the long term? And the question is how long has he been doing this? Decades, centuries or millennia, how long has Mr. Coffey been alive? An outstanding story, an outstanding film with outstanding actors. P.S.I am against the death penalty for a very simple reason. As long as it is possible that justice can fail and an innocent person has to die, it is a punishment that is not worthy of a democratic constitutional state. In Germany the death penalty was abolished after 1945 and I am very happy about that. I have through my work Activity ensured that these perpetrators disappeared behind bars through a verdict. A wrong decision can be reversed. No subsequent justice can be done to a dead person.
I'm glad most of the civilized world doesn't have the death penalty. About John: it's not a coincidence that his initials are J.C.. About the actor, Michael Clarke Duncan., he was only 1,5 inch taller than David Morse (Brutus). All the best for you reactions to come and regards from the Netherlands!
For Movie reactions you should show longer clips of the Movies and maybe in a larger frame and put you guys in a smaller frame. Good reaction Excellent Movie Super Acting by all. This Movie plays with your Emotions
Try reading either It or The Last Stand. Both are outstanding Stephen King novels but they also both have blockbuster films franchises based on the books. Stephen King is a prolific writer. His book, The Dead Zone is almost prophetic when compared to recent politics.
Michael Clark Dunkan lost the best supporting actor Oscar to Michael Caine that year. Today no one remembers the name of the movie or character Michael Caine played, but everyone who has seen The Green Mile will never forget John Coffey!
Love your reaction john was ready to go to heaven. Oh by the way I love okra, only southern fried like my grandma always made. Our family is from Arkansas fried okra yum!
You probably already saw it but there's Shawshank redemption misery and Dolores Claiborne all excellent Stephen King movies and yes you should read his books
and John said he had a wonderful dream of mouseville. I think Del gave him that dream from Heaven. because of their last connection. because usually John was unable to dream.
I've seen this movie several times and with each viewing, I have to fight back the tears. Thanks to your reactions, you both made it impossible for me to fight the urge. As much as I love this movie, the biggest flaw in the story is the reality of events. The sad trith is, in 1935, the year the story was set, it would've been unlikely for John Coffey to have made it through the justice system. Being a black man, he probably would've been shot moments after they found him with the dead girls. On a much lighter side, I always laugh at the line that John Coffey repeats a number of times during the movie. "I'm tired now, boss. Dog tired."
