The John Coffey Character was based on a modern-day version of Jesus Christ.(Confirmed by Stephen King at a signing and also the initials J.C are a give away). John had incredible strength and the ability to heal and also reverse death but only if it was a short time after the passing. He was also an empath hense how he felt the pain of others and he could also sense their thoughts, thats why he wanted to die because he was tired of all the hate he felt everyday and let's face it... slavery and racism was high in the 1930s and let's not forget the Wars etc. A very powerful film.

Should watch Shawshank Redemption. It is kind of a "sibling" to this movie. Both were based on stories written by Stephen King with scripts adapted by Frank Darabont (who also directed both movies), and both are prison movies. Both are also extremely good (The Shawshank Redemption tops many people's Favorite Film list.)

I am a 47 year old man. I have seen this movie dozens of times and it makes me cry every time. This is a perfect movie in my opinion. The actors all gave award winning performances, the score was perfect, the story was incredibly moving. For comparison, the mouse living that long is the equivalent of Paul living for about 2000 years and that makes me wonder exactly how long John had been roaming the earth. Great reaction, I really enjoy your channel, keep up the great work.

This was based on a Stephen King novel and I've only read a few that didn't have some sort of horror/supernatural aspect to them. This I'd say is my favorite for lack of horror for me and intense emotions it conveys. Still after having watched it a half dozen times plus watched several reactions it still brings tears to my eyes and I need to blow my nose several times.

The place a really good movie can take you cannot be overstated. In a day when the special effects are the story rather than the people of the world is a true loss to us all. Your reaction touched me as much as the story, writing, direction, and acting in this movie. It is mostly because the studios depend on numbers and blockbusters more than content. The only real place left to enjoy such theater is between the covers of books. It is the avenue of adventure and written drama that help to expand the mind. Something most modern cinema used to do well but has forgotten. The classics are best because they depended on the writer to build the world you were invited into with words and your ability to engage and spend time exploring. But people want what is easy. Video games, streaming services, cable, internet, and self-promotion channels. And here we are.

Hi Stef, this is a very emotional film!🙂This film starts out being one kind of film, then the supernatural aspect is introduced, which takes many people by surprise. This film is from writer Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead). There is another film from the same writer & director. It is "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994). If you a fan of rats I think you would enjoy "The Suicide Squad" (2021). You should check it out sometime. Great reactions to this epic film that is often used for a cry challenge, Stef!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

YOU WILL CRY 1. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 2. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 3. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.🤬 EVERYONE hates him. 4. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge. 5. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Dunca. They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller. 6 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off. 7. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 8 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced. the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. (GOAT) 9. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!

First, let me set up this comment... I'm now 72 years old, and when I was your age (roughly), I'd grown up on Star Trek, and Mr. Spock, and I valued (in Jungian terms), Thinking over Feeling. After many intervening decades invested into a deep dive into Jungian "Depth Psychology," I learned that "Thinking and Feeling" are EQUAL, yet opposing and opposite, psychological functions dedicated to evaluating - "assigning value to," what has been perceived via "intuition and sensation" - neither of those pairs superior to it's opposite, and yet neither pair being able to function at the same time. The truth is that the more one consciously relies on "Thinking (logical analysis), the more the collective unconscious (always compensatory to one's conscious attitudes) relies on "Feelings", and unless one strives to "CONSCIOUSLY strives to seek a balance, there will always be an "unconscious war" preventing a reconciliation and "conscious peace

John Coffey is the embodiment of Christ (JC). He sacrifices himself to save or heal others. Stephen King intentionally made several religious symbolism throughout the film. The cathedral-like windows over the guards desk and the ray of light across the floor, John recognizing the constellations in the night sky and his love of nature. When Paul visited the defense attorney, he learned that there was no record of John's existence before his arrest, "It was as if he dropped from the sky. " John tried to save the girls, but it was too late to revive them. In the scene where John is watching the film, there is a glow around his head like a halo emanating from the projector light. Mr. Jingles, the mouse was over 60 years old by the end of the film. I read the Stephen King novel before the film was made. There is a lot more information about inmates Arlen Bitterbuck and Eduard Delacroix and the crimes they committed.

If, for a man who can heal pain & death, dying is salvation and for a warden, living is punishment. This film is not without reason one of the most popular films of all time. To all professional critics who like to criticize the emotional, let me say: films are art. And as with any art form, the viewer's reaction also depends on the emotional side. So you can never look at films purely technically, ideologically or objectively. It doesn't work without emotions.

This is one of three great movies based on a Stephen King book. You really need to watch what I think is the number two movie, The Shawshank Redemption, the third is the suspense movie The Shining. Before you watch The Shining, be sure to watch an old Johnny Carson show, well not the show the beginning when they introduce Johnny.

What makes it so much more sad is that he actually wanted to die. He didn't want to suffer anymore. Just imagine the toll it would take on you to feel the entire worlds pain, literally, every waking moment of your life. The sacrifices he made just to help people. He could have been hundreds of years old. We Humans can do that to some extent, we have empathy, but obviously nowhere near what he had. A super empath. I'm glad this movie has become one of the go to classics for reactors, it didn't get enough love when it came out, it nearly won best picture but was edged out by American Beauty. Yet, I don't see anywhere near as many reactions to that movie.

Hi, amazing channel! A slight side track but still in the realm; could you consider creating a tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? He passed away last year, and was the sole reason I got into acting. On MsMojo there was a video about the best voice acting in animate d movies and I think he should've been included for his role in Batman the Mask of Phantasm (the scene at the cementary). I have a VA background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's very underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)

This is one of three Frank Darabont adaptations of a Stephen King story. He also did The Shawshank Redemption - also a prison movie BTW. BUT a very different kind of movie from The Green Mile. The other adaptation is The Mist - that one is a straight out horror movie. Highly recommend you check out The Shawshank Redemption at some point. IMO it's the greatest movie ever.
