shit mane, was casually walkthroughing patrice appearances (for the 5th time) on OnA and bob saget called at least 4 times, and all of them was good banter with patrice.. then i finally stoppped to look bob saget and he has passed 2 days earlier i was like damm... there will be a day where all those comics will be gone too... and i felt bad for the future. we shall keep their memories alive peeps
@@AnonURnot Patrice rarely let anyone off the hook for anything, and Saget was arguably the biggest sellout ever, but he was very honest in that moment and Patrice respected it. And Saget had a great point, there's nothing really wrong with taking the path of least resistance to success. The checks clear and they get pretty fat if you're lucky.
@@RockoJerome Sure, but if you're on the level of Saget, you don't have to do many things to live comfortably. His net worth was 50 million. He could easily do only things he wanted, but he got material and shallow. Integrity is worth more than millions of dollars if you already have millions.
@@RockoJerome But this was a funny, entertaining guy, he could've done 5 million only doing things that were artistically good. It was enough to live comfortably.
15:16 "Because the idea of comedy really, is not everybody should be laughing. There should be about 50 people laughing and 50 people horrified. Ya know what I mean, there supposed to be people that get it, and people that don't get it." One of the greatest quotes on comedy from one of the Greatest comedians of all time. RIP, Patrice O'Neal.
I can't verify this, but I believe one of the first people to use that phrase was Mitzi Shore co founder and longest owner of the world famous Comedy Store. She was an incredibly "quirky" character, but in many respects, she single handedly molded comedic culture in America and the world forever.
I love patrice but don’t fully agree with this quote. I think what he’s trying to say is that you should be able to joke about anything. At the end of the day though whether it’s dark or clean humor, the only real goal is to actually be funny.
Two people who have nothing in common with each other at all, except for the fact that they view the world the same way and hold the same values most valuable. It really is the best example of however different people are, deep inside there's something that we both believe in. I really wish we could have seen what he would have become today. He was only 41, hadn't even gotten his big break yet.
It's not sad tho he knew damn good n well he was one foot in grave his drs told him monthly the reality of his health and he knew it and he made a conscious choice daily decision to purge and gluttonously over do all of life's vices drugs cigs sex booze bad food sweets he CHOSE to give up duration longevity Nd chose instead to live shorter life but each day enjoying more bad food sex drugs booze tobacco etc then everyone else and gladly chose that plain n simple patrice was smart not stupid and his drs told him for two decades to stop and get healthy he CHOSE every hour every day and there's nothing sad or tragic about it u should instead be happy glad content he did EXACTLY what wanted and what made him happy he gladly gave up the grey years in exchange for daily excess for decades
+Robert Machulla He said that a lot. I don't think he meant that in a death way, he meant it like washed up. And +fishncapt26 he did try eating healthier by the end and he didn't drink or drug. Nobody takes mortality serious when they're still young I think you guys are reading too much into it. Easy to do when you watch clips of people that have already died speaking candidly sometimes.
+fishncapt26 Yeah, Except for the fact he didn't drink ,he didn't use drugs,he didn't smoke,he didn't booze. His problem was he didn't manage his diabetes, his vice was bad food! and sex (which is irrelevant)... That's quite a leap when you try to negate any type of feeling's people have associated towards him by his fans, friends and family especially when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about! lol. Even so, have you ever had someone you respect or appreciate die? do you sit there rattle off reasons to negate your own feelings or someone else's feelings that they might have for that person because he or she had a vice or did something that that involved risk that may have contributed to his or her death? As if you have no vice's or things in your life that can pose a potential RISK to your own well being like everyone else on the planet?. If that is your world- view and logic then god-forbid Mr. fish captain that you don't fall of your boat and drown, see because you knew the risk that came with fishing on a boat so automatically because assuming you like to fish as opposed to going to the supermarket your putting yourself at risk every-time you go fishing!. So yeah it was your choice no one should feel "sad" for you ,you did it too yourself. You had to CHOOSE to go fishing so much to know that there is risk involved but no. You had to give up your "grey years" there is nothing sad or tragic about it. lol
+fishncapt26 he made a lot of changes to his diet. he described in 2009 eating a raw diet. he didn't smoke & hardly ever drank. His GF explained that the stroke he had was not a thing related to diabetes or anything. I get your point though. take care of yourself and you can hopefully avoid these things
HOLY FUCK PATRICE SAID "ANCIENT DISHWASHERS" I DIDN'T GET WHAT HE MEANT AT FIRST THEN A SECOND LATER I WAS LIKE "OH MEXICANS" BAHAHAHA OMG I LAUGHED I LAUUUUUUUUUGHED.
Patrice appreciates comedy even when its not current or edgy. You can see it when he laughs honestly at some of Bob Sagats outdated or cookie cutter jokes. Most comics respect Bob Sagat, and Patrice shows it here.
The people who laughed at Patrice's skinny cookies joke. Those very few people who laugh at a joke that "should of never been said." Are the best humans on the earth.
RIP Bob Saget, this interview reignited my love for his humor a long time ago and it’s one of the first things I thought of when I heard of his passing.
Man, his quote “you go through the doors that open for you” means the fucking world to me. Never was into his standup, but he was smart and hilarious in settings like this.
The Hitler stuff was brilliant and similar to wording and timing Norm Macdonald would do. Norm has said the person who taught him to write comedy was Roseanne.
Especially for someone who got hit by a car growing up that gave her permanent brain changes... I didn't know that about her until she went on Joe Rogan Experience.
"You have a choice between being successful and being great" Patrice's response "yeah" the way he says that only word. Is like he is saying he knows that all too well and he resonates with that. He could have played a clown and been set for life but he chose the high road. He had a lot to say, we'll miss him.
@@johnjames6610 Its not just that tho. Patrice wanted to be at the same level as them, and I heard one of his interviews where he talked about it. He was just a person with supreme potential but sabotaged his own gift because he made it about himself. By NO MEANS am I disrespecting him. Its something he said himself as well as every1 who was close to him that wanted to see him be where he should have been. The top.
@@thephilosopher7173 self-sabotage was something Patrice talked about a lot. He recognised it in himself but couldn't/didn't change his behaviour enough.
@@johnjames6610 he called ALL the shots his way tho... Unfortunately, they called the last shot on him(aka health complications) He lived his career calling the shots 100% his way tho. To me that's a well lived life...
Classic Patrice ... at the 20:00 minute mark, Patrice's reaction to Bob's chum comment!! That is a sincere Patrice moment ... There is nothing like that laugh of his, when he truly appreciate a joke he validated it with a real belly laugh and a F-you :)
Every time Patrice was on a show whether it be O&A or whatever, it was honestly like a hilarious ted talk. A brilliant mind, up there with the likes of Carlin and Pryor. The dude has a cult following, but never had the mainstream following he deserved. He absolutely roasted Bob, and you can tell Bob enjoyed every minute of it. Patrice absolutely loved Rosanne, and his remark about “if you made the cookies skinny” was amongst the most brilliant “fucked up” comedy examples I’ve ever heard. A brilliant segment.
For sure...theres a channel w 100k folowers called the cult of black phillip that's just Patrice appearances. I guarantee we'd all have paid 10 bucks a month just to listen to him talk. Million a month for the rest of his life just doing him. He made it...we just didnt have the infrastructure in place yet to show him.
I think he was being incredibly vulnerable and introspective here. This is one of the more interesting clips of Patrice. He still speaks truth, but he's surrounded by comics who achieved the kind of fame and notoriety that he knew that he should have, but he wasnt willing to do what they did to get it... It was super fitting when Roseann said that you had to choose between being famous and being great. Patrice made that choice long ago, but you can't help but sense that there was at least a little... regret(?) there.
@@johndurrett3573 He was dead set on doing whatever the fuck he want to do as a comic. It's like nobody could stop him. Bill Burr's Philly rant was a prime example of Bill saying whatever the fuck he want as he kept on roasting to an audience mixed of booing and cheering for 10 straight minutes. He became a legend after that.
He would have been the pinnacle of American stand up performance as an exported artform that is now globally mainstream. Before Americans, this role was relegated to the position of "court jester". His death is a national loss and a global one really.
Kinda weird just after Bob was saying to take any door that opens, Rosanne was taking about not selling out. Poor Patrice getting patronizing mixed advice and sitting there knowing he's funnier than both those two cunts put together. RIP
Neither of them are hacks, nor can I imagine Patrice would want you to think of them that way. He's definitely funnier in my opinion, but he wouldn't want to run names though dirt. Real recognizes real, it doesn't talk shit about it. Neither does funny.
@@angelayala7922 but that's Bob. He has dirty white dad humor. Everyone has their own thing in comedy. It's just a comedians job to fuck with eachother. You can love and respect someone while also roasting the fuck out of them.
Wtf is wrong with you??You're sayin black people cant be legends bcos they oppressed? Get the fuck outta here man do u even hear urself, do u realize the shit coming out of ur mouth? What about MLK, Malcolm X, fkin Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor and so on and so forth. If u think these and many other black people are not legends, u my son are fkin stupid and that is a fact. Furthermore your dumb reason is actually one of the reasons some of black men became famous and legends. Get ur shit together man and stop with that bullshit how they cant be shit coz the white man and the oppression and all other shit, if u ask me thats just another form of rasicsm.
Patrice had a lot of respect for Rosie, you can tell. I just know in my heart that Patrice would have been on her side about the Valerie Jarrett comments. He woulda called bullshit on everyone to defend Rosie.
The funniest part about that entire thing is they kept using these pictures that they're showing here from a Jewish Humor Magazine to prove that she was racist
It's amazing how different Patrice and Roseanne are on the outside yet how similar their mindset are!!! Patrice saw himself in Roseanne when she was talkin about the Jerusalem thing
Comedy gold - the entire show / series. Paul, if you see this and you can find a way to bring the show back...PLEASE DO! We live in a time where this is needed, and needed badly.
Patrice reaction is a pitch-perfect display of your admiration 😂😂 So many emotions he just throws his hands up and; 🫲🏾’WWW🤷🏾uuut?!?’🫱🏾 Is fucking hilarious 😂 😂
This is from 12 years ago but a lot of what theyre talking about is still very relevant. Awesome group of people here. RIP Patrice and Bob. And I still love Roseanne. She's a good person at heart.
That bit at the end when Roseanne hugs Patrice and tells him he´s great made my heart melt a bit. You can usually tell if a person is racially prejudiced and she doesn´t seem to me as a person with hate in her heart or that judges other people differently based on their skin colour or ethnicity. Not to mention she was high on Ambien when she made that dumb tweet. I think firing her from her own after she apologized was a bit overkill.
I don't even think it was a racially motivated tweet. Roseanne said that Valerie Jarrett looked like a character from Planet of the Apes and she really does. Valerie Jarrett has a very distinctive, odd look that resembles one of the characters. The racial slur of referring to black people as monkeys is a denigration of their humanity by implying they aren't as highly evolved as other races. That's not what Roseanne was saying though. She was saying that Jarrett literally looks like the character. The equivalent would be saying that a man with large, sagging rolls of skin on their face resembles a bulldog.
14:40 Patrice is talking about his career not really taking off at the beginning. He decided to just be authentic, instead of worrying about the results. And look where we are now... it's 2023. He's been gone for a decade, and people who never even knew his work when he was alive absolutely love him. We actively search up any old clips we can find just to get more of him. Currently, he has the greatest reputation of any comic there, and it's not even close. He changed the lives of a generation of men. He's a legend, and he did it because he was authentic. I just wish he were alive to see it. I doubt he could ever have imagined, back then, just how many lives he would touch.
Yeah, the men in the redpill would love him. The thing is, if women made those same type of jokes about men, men would lose their fucking minds. That's why men think of feminism as some boogyman while basically being the male inverse of it. Men can dish it out and call it comedy or "facts" but when similar truths are spoken about men, they can't handle it and call it misandry.
Patrice seemed like he always had a bond with the old school comedians. You can tell he had a lot of respect for Roseanne and saget, he loved pat cooper too! The 3 of them were great together in this
Patrice could talk to anyone. His insight into the human condition was Jedi level. I have a man crush but in my defense his philosophy has fundamentally changed me. Pulled me out of a dark place.
"Dont try to set me up to do your white humor, nigga!" God bless Patrice's soul man. He was truly one of the funniest people to ever live and he didn't get the credit he deserved.
***** Might be onto something. Such a great talent though. One of those comedians that can break through all walks of life. I'm white suburbia douche and even I could relate him when he was talking about his life on the hood.
***** I feel ya. I did know of Patrice when he was Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn back in 2004. But I didn't see his stand-up until a couple of years ago. Plus, one has to imagine the bits he did that never were recorded. I did see some RU-vid clip of a chick comedian was not funny. And to top it off she was using some of Patrice's material and passing it off as her own.
I heard about Schumer's writing staff had stolen material. Don't know all the details. But this Liz chick stole and altered jokes from Patrice's stand-up special Elephant In The Room.
@Akatosh Dragon God of Time No she did not. She said 'not right wing'.. the exact opposite. If you want to correct people, start with being correct yourself first.

Thanks for uploading it, I'm always looking for Patrice O'Neal stuff I haven't seen before. The guy was a genius it's unfortunate he doesn't get the respect he deserves.
