Here's the thing about Daemon: when he's quiet...run.

When Lady Rhea Royce was murdered, we did not see it. The scene was cut and it was left to the imagination. And when it was mentioned, Princess Rhaenys described that her (Lady Rhea) neck and skull were crushed by an "accident". This is a deliberate choice by the filmmakers so that our minds have already paved the way for a "skull being bashed" scene. And voila! towards the end of the episode, our minds were already open to an image of a skull being bashed and crushed. When writers hijack our minds, I can say that it is smart writing.

Great reaction! I appreciate reactors who see the complexities of characters and don't fall into the simple "good heroes vs evil villains". So much of the show is focused on the tension between personal agency and the restrictive social conditions people find themselves in. This applies to Rhaenyra as it does to Viserys and Alicent and Otto. None of these noble people are good people through and through lol

You're right. The juxtaposition of the wedding and the almost-sepukku scene is deliberate. "I'm yours and you're mine, whatever may come" "one flesh one heart"....that wasn't about Rhaenyra and Laenor. It was about Alicent and Criston. They will for each other until the bitter end. Two tortured souls, united by fate, on a cursed moonlit night and together they will make a king

The ending montage was my favorite scene so far. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy soundtrack & hook it to my veins! The slightly overlooked heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode imo. Otto’s not wrong. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment for the show. The events at the wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. This is the episode where the Greens come into their own. *Rhaenyra and Laenor were exchanging wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”*

I like the subtle touch of Laenor just standing there at the end whi!e everyone else is rushing over. He's just completely numb with grief. That poor man, I really hope we get to see him happy again, maybe with a new partner who doesn't immediately kick the bucket? 😅

Another entertaining review. Besides, "i'll summon the leeches!" stuff 😂😂😂 My favorite little thing in this episode is myself trying to gauge the progressiveness of Lord Corlys knowing his son swings a certain way and didn't bother with it yet hoping it is just a phase....😂 Also it was a product of the time, he wanted her to throw away everything for him but he couldn't accept her proposal and he only in his mind he lost everything since nobody would know what they had done and none of his titles would have been lost

Joffreys don't do well at weddings. The queen needs allies, that is why I think she spared Ser Criston. She definitely entered the game. I think what her father told her struck a cord. As far as Daemon, not sure he did anything to the horse for that to happen. Although rumor is the horse reacted because he smelled of dragon. If you remember in episode 1, Rhaenyra mother told her to go bathe, she reeked of dragon. Apparently in the book, Daemon was no where near his wife when she died, it really was a hunting accident. Every week this show has at least 1 wtf moment which is why it's so awesome. Compare it to Rings of Power show which so far is a lil bit boring.

Funny to see Matt Smith being so understated, yet brewing, unlike when he was The Doctor. Definitely a sign of an excellent actor. Definitely a GoT wedding episode. We knew what was coming, but not exactly how. Good writing.

Yeahhh don't feel too bad for Criston. Did you notice when Rhaenyra rejected him, his immediate argument was not "but I love you and can't live without you" it was "I compromised my honor and this is the only way to make me feel better about it." 😐

Loving your reactions to this series, and how you guys see the nuances and complexities of each character and their situations. Plus I'm enjoying the Daemon hate lol, he's not "cool", he's a petulant and violent manipulator and it's refreshing to see him called out. Also Alicent looked stunning and powerful in that dress scene! I feel that while she was a victim before of both her father and Viserys, she is finally seizing her power and becoming something more. It still pains me that she and Rhaenyra couldn't be BFFs (or GFs), but I'm interested to see how the drama unfolds between them later.

Remembering that the book fire and blood is narrated by dubious narrators The book is told by rumors and gossip so it is not reliable, in the book it says that Daemon never likes his wife he hates her the daemon was forced to marry his wife she not important in the story In the book there is nothing about her just that she is married to Daemon and that after a while the news comes from her that she died and that she died falling off a horse is all that is said about daemon's wife in the Book Like I said, Daemon's wife is not important in the story, nobody cares about her and only see the scenes when she talks about Daemon's wife is when Rhaenys says Daemon's wife died, nobody cared about the news she said that's because she is not important, in the books it is not known if it was the daemon that killed his wife because when she dies the daemon is in a war so it is not known if it was him, in the series they put that it was the daemon that I kill his wife the daemon is not killing his wife because she had already lost the movement of her body so much so that he was leaving but the girl was very stupid opened her mouth so he killed her, the writers is Ryan they said they said that Daemon does not and the kill his wife if she doesn't open her mouth, more like she opened her mouth so he kill her Being a Christian if you soiled your white mantle it was because you wanted to because Rhaenyra didn't stick a knife in your neck forcing you to do what you did, do you really think that Rhaenyra And drop everything just to be with him my god this girl she is a princess she is heir to the throne she has her customs she is not one to drop everything to have a simple life , Rhaenyra is not in love with Christian she just wants to have fun she just wants sex nothing else Christian you are very emotional you are very deluded you and dumb rhaenyra would never give up everything for you christian you and only a knight have nothing to offer her

I don’t think Criston Cole really loves her, he just wanted to justify to himself that he broke his oath for love rather than just sex. He is very conservative, but also opportunistic. You see how he attacked Daemon behind his back even when he was given a new chance during the tourney (Daemon was cocky in turning, but it is frowned upon to attack when someone has their back to you, specially since he could have won already), or how he offered to kill Jason for Rhaenyra. He had nothing and she gave him a path. It is debatable if he could really deny her, as she is way more powerful than him, but she was drunk and he went for it. Yet, let’s be honest, she went for him because he was there. It was a one-night-stand. He then became obsessive not only with her, but to find a way to restaure his honor. He became unstable, but also wasn’t very smart. Alicent also is all about duty, and she is mad because Rhaenyra has more freedom (although she has no right to be mad, she seduced the king on the day his wife and son were put to rest and hid it from her best friend, now she is jealous and will use this to justify her following the path her father wanted all along). Their understanding of honor is very flawed. She is pushing her father’s agenda. Criston just killed an innocent man (a hate crime, if you will) and also turned his back to the only reason he had anything to his name at all. PS: the murder scene is a little confusing, but the horse got scared, so Daemon got lucky the fall broke her neck, so she was probably dead anyway, wasting away, so I think she provoked him to finish her off faster. We don’t see much of her character, but she didn’t seem like a delightful person, as we can see from the way she spoke to her cousin. Probably really cold, both of them didn’t want the marriage and resentment became hate. Now what scared the horse? I don’t really know. Could be her hastiness to grab her weapon or maybe Daemon can broadcast evil vibes for horses.

Are we so sure that the Hightowers are the actual villains of this show? More and more it appears they are playing a defensive game whereas Daemon is outwardly aggressive and the Princess is not even aware of the realities of her situation.

Nice that Sam finally started to realize Rhaenyra might not be the clean hero of this story. Wonder how long Jacqui will stay on that boat. :)
