TL;DR: We've been friends forever and we watch sh*t together. - Sam
And now Jacqui's version...
We met in high school in 2009. Sam had bleached hair and I was wearing checkered pants. Thirteen years later, the styles have changed, but the friendship hasn't.
We both went to film school (I went to the fancy one and Sam went to the online one, so now I have student debt and he has a shopping addiction). But recently, I realized how behind I was in my movie watching, and Sam wasted no time in shaming me for it. Having spent an obscene amount of money to study movies, there was no excuse for me to not be watching them. Thus, The Shame List was born.
As I caught up, Sam and I would discuss each movie/show, and one day, I proposed the crazy idea that we film those conversations and share them on the internet. After all, what's the use of an overpriced film degree if you don't share it with the world? So, here we are, for your entertainment! Let the public shaming commence!
Holy f*ck, ive watched both Ted Lasso and Merlin so many times and this is the FIRST TIME I've ever noticed that Uther and Rupert are the same actor ! God I loved that show and it makes this one even better
Fun fact, I actually did find the love of my life on a dating site 10 years ago. We are no longer together and I am a shattered husk of a man. So it really did alter the course of my life!
Hell is waiting for you two imagine if it was your Family members that died you wouldn’t like it if they mocked them show your true colors show that lgbt is full of hate
For Rupert the character it's even worse when you later learn he was married to another woman before Rebecca and again probably kept her from having children.
Sam telling Rebecca that "It's your team" also has another significance, because up to that point she sees the team as "the only thing Rupert has ever loved", and for the first time she's gets the thought of "it's my team"
33:51 King Viserys I Targaryen the First of his name, King of the Andals, and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm; Rest in Peace good King you were the best of us.
18:27 THAT is an Entrance. Not some addled minded man coming in but King Viserys I Targaryen the First of his name, King of the Andals, and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.
I'm a gay guy from Georgia who just watched this movie for the first time recently since it's pride month and I'd never seen it. I was 13 when this first came out and of course I'd seen all the memes which now I find pretty absurd considering how deep and serious this movie is, I don't know why I never watched it sooner, maybe some part of me when I was younger intentionally wanted to avoid the gay cowboy movie and then later I just knew it was probably gonna be a bummer to watch so I avoided it, and while it was a bummer this movie also has a fucking chokehold on me and I've been looking up all kinds of reactions and reviews to like relive the experience and see what other people think. I obviously grew up in a later era and a not quite as extremely rural conservative environment, but growing up in the south I found so much of this to be immensely relatable. The intense yearning and secrecy and paranoia but also those moments of relief when you have someone and when you're with them it almost feels like this transcendent experience and you can find safe places you can be yourself but it's all too fleeting and not enough and you even feel physically ill when it's over and the normal closeted days end up feeling like you're just counting down until you can do it again and those memories of those times feels like it's all that keeps you going. It also probably doesn't help that despite growing up in Georgia some of my most cherished romantic memories are from some time I spent in the mountains in Colorado, not Wyoming but still. I thankfully haven't lost someone in the sense of them dying but even just going through a break up while in the closet is a rough experience so extrapolating that to real grief of losing someone in the way Ennis lost Jack I literally can't stop thinking about that final scene with Ennis swearing to Jack with tears in his eyes and likely pulling himself together before heading out because he's not allowed to openly grieve like that. I definitely get some of the criticism of like certain tropes ya know bury your gays and all that but I honestly feel like the tragedy and reality and also the kind of lack of closure is what made this movie have the profound effect it had on me. I honestly wouldn't change anything about this movie, but I do think we just need more happier gay movies to balance it out. Even though I think the story is powerful as is and I also think it's important as it is I do find myself yearning for a similar story that has a happier ending.
"Kit" refers to the gear or equipment in addition to the uniform. Nate's job is what we in the States would call an equipment manager. I worked as a Hockey equipment manager for a couple of decades so I can appreciate the intricacies of Nate's job.
I've never understood how someone like Jack could fall in love with someone like Ennis....he's just so closed off and tbh, completely boring.... and never once looked actually happy. Did he ever even laugh throughout the whole movie?? If ever the saying "opposites attract", was more true, I guess its shown clearly in this movie.....
I’m revisiting an all-time favorite show for Pride, and finding your reactions and analysis has been such a gift. I confess I tend to skip over conversations and reactors’ thoughts in many reaction vids, but I hang on every word of yours, as you both articulate the things I love about Sense8 so eloquently while also giving me rich, delicious new food for thought. Thank you so much.
The green lightsaber that Anakin got was the second lightsaber of Kit Fisto and the blue was actually Mace Windu's before he created his iconic purple lightsaber when he created Vapad. So no they were not "spares" also I'm very impressed with your knowledge of lore as to how lightsabers are created. During the Padawan stage usually during adolescence they are taken to the ice planet of Ilum and the crystals actually choose them by calling out to them through the Force. They then have to use telekinesis to build and assemble their lightsaber
The "jedi we have left" comment by Mace Windu just mean the Jedi that were at the Temple. Because of the separatist incursions many Jedi were spread throughout the galaxy. At the start of the Clone Wars there were roughly 10 thousand Jedi. The battle of Geonosis in this movie there was 212 Jedi sent and only 31 survived.
One of the worst reviews I have ever seen. news flash , not everyone has seen got. I think you missed so much because pf constant pausing. Your view is myopic. HORRIBLE and WHINY!!!
spend a penny , back in the day women used to have to use a coin operated lock to use public toilets , it cost a penny so hence the term " going off to spend a penny "
First off, the meaning of the third eye is not evil. It often represents perception and a state of enlightenment. In the comics, Doctor Strange does indeed have a third eye, which is often depicted as coming from the Eye of Agamotto (which does not contain the Time Stone). It has many different uses, which I would suggest you look up. Secondly, with regard to Wanda’s story arc, it’s possible that some of your issues with the film stem from your lack of familiarity with the characters in terms of their history in the comics. In any case, while I agree with your assessment of Game of Thrones S8, there are sufficient clues regarding her turn to evil, such that it should not be surprising. The Darkhold corrupts everything and everyone it touches.” At the end of Wandavision, she is studying the Darkhold. You’re supposed to realize that some time has passed between those events and the events of the movie. You don’t just pick up the Book of the Damned (a magical artifact) and go through it overnight, particularly if you have NO magical training. Wanda had no formal training in the use of her powers, which in the MCU are not mystical in nature. She’s basically self-taught. Doctor Strange would be able to use it right away because of his expertise and extensive training in Kamar-Taj. Anyway, my general point is that there are a number of things that you evidently didn’t understand about what was happening.
36:05 I think one of the things this movie did a poor job of connecting was how much the Darkhold corrupts Wanda. When you're talking about how she got over the fact that she couldn't have her kids in Wandavision but changes her mind in this movie its because she learns through the Darkhold that she can still be with her kids in another universe and how the Darkhold takes that strong emotion and basically overcharges it by 2000% which is why this quest of hers consumes all her thoughts and efforts. When you view it from that lens it all makes sense, but again, they didn't do a very good job of connecting that information in the movie here. Rather you would only understand this by reading between the lines, so I see alot of reactors who are confused or don't understand why Wanda did a full 360.
I feel bad for Jamie at the benefit, when Roy and Keeley are joking that he'll have to sleep with the woman if she pays enough, after having context about Amsterdam.
Wrong answer- this movie was not touched up by CGI except for a few minor scenes, like adding the Emporer's face. All puppets, models, and practical effects. A couple of the Bespin scenes were altered, and that was it. Also the ice planet of Hoth, was filmed in Norway. And they just happened to have one of the worst blizzards in decades during the shoot.
I scrolled for a bit but didn’t find this bit of trivia that I’m surprised I don’t see. In the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally, the woman who says, “I’ll have what she’s having” is Rob Reiner’s mom, the director of the film.
Watching this AFTER the show has ended and the exchange at @13:30 about "would they really have his wife date their therapist on Ted Lasso???" is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
