The Grind To 6.0 Is Tough!

I've decided to main Germany up to top tier and my next stop on the climb up the German tech tree is Battle Rating 6.0. I'm getting closer to having my preferred 6.0 line-up but I'm not quite there yet. Since I've recently been accepted into the Gaijin Partner Program I get 30 days of premium account so I'm hoping to get my ideal 6.0 line-up before I lose the extra research bonuses!
In this video, you will see a few games before I unlocked the Panther G and M109G and in the next video I'll be using these tanks in my line-up to research the Panther F and Ostwind II. Enjoy!

8:36 your turret was so slow because you engine was off. you run of battery for like a minute, then your crew has to manually crank the turret. the timer is displayed center bottom above your ammo.

@@GibbyGav your turret rotates faster when your engine is on, or when you still have battery. When you turn the engine off and the battery reaches 0, the gunner needs to manually rotate the turret, and it's way slower than with the electric system.

Little bit of advice when using German planes : select "Air Targets" ammunition belts for the 20mm and 30mm cannons. They have a high concentration of shells with strong HE effects that will do a lot of damage if they connect - it should be easily noticeable with wings or tails losing chunks or ripping off. On the other hand there's less AP shells for ground targets, but the German autocannons don't penetrate enough for it to make much of a difference. HE shells will also wreck open-topped vehicles.

@@GibbyGav puma gains a lot in higher br's due to being more mobile and agile than most other stuff at that br, makes for great flanking vehicle, recommend taking some HE to deal with jacksons

I have to Say again, the jagdpanther could really help you. Researching it means you also have acces to the jpz 4-5 wich is quite the oppesite play style of the jagdpanther since its faster but with less armour, Overall both great tanks imo

Just a slight tip For most of the 190s when you go below 400 you can use your landing flaps for better turn use it every time you can, it just turns your interceptor level turn to a dog fighter turning plane

8:36, when you turn off your engine a red battery with a countdown will pop up close to the bottom of the screen, when that counter reaches 0 your turret drive will lose power and you'll be stuck with hand crank (slow as shit), dont let the counter reach 0

The Zerstorer has no armour because it shreds the armour of the enemies, it's a natural balance type thing.

one piece of advice I can give is that most players are not using audio and wont hear you flanking them even if youre playing super loud tanks.

here a few tips to help gun settling turn on block vertical aiming when braking dont stay slammed on the brakes and wait for a full stop kinda just tap the brakes and let it roll to stop not pressing w panthers guns are very stable at low speed almost like a stabilzer, and same applies let it more roll to a stop than just slamming on the brakes and BF109s are more suited than the fw190 handles better gonna make dogfighing alot easier (they have less guns but trade the guns for handling)

The premium account almost makes the suffering of constant uptiers and unbalanced tanks worth it because even with 1 or 2 kills you get a couple thousand XP, pretty useful and will make it easier

I consider war thunder to be a subscription based game, because it is so unbearably slow to grind without it. I usually buy an entire year at 50% discount. It is usually on discount twice a year or so

Here I am again, back with more yapping and advice. This is gonna be a big one (massive, even, dunno why I'm even writing a beast this big) because the oil burn I recently got doesn't hurt as much and I can type with both hands. Angle your Tiger. Please. I beg. If you're not 100% certain the enemy can't get their shot off, your first instinct should be to steer left or right (depending on which is faster) IMMEDIATELY. An angled Tiger is often a problem even for vehicles a full BR above it. As for the guy who killed you near the start of the video, the Kungstiger, it's a King Tiger premium for Sweden that you could get in the last Battle Pass - it's the same as the German Tiger II (H), aka the earlier Tiger II. Both sit at a BR of 6.7, which means you got uptiered that match. You can easily tell the BR of the match by looking at your Spawn Points - for a Medium Tank, fighting at your own BR means it should cost 130 SP to spawn. 120 means you're uptiered by .3, 110 means you're uptiered by .7 and 100 means you're uptiered by a full 1.0 BR, the max value. IIRC, Germany 6.0 regularly gets uptiered by .7 or 1.0, if not almost always. For the sake of information, the inverse is also true - if you're fighting at a .3 BR LOWER, it'll cost ya 140 SP, .7 will cost you 150 SP and 1.0 will cost 160 SP. This only applies to Medium Tanks, as Heavies are always 10 points more expensive, SPAA are always the cheapest and SPGs (Self-Propelled Gun) or TDs (Tank Destroyer) are about 10 points cheaper, alongside Light Tanks IIRC. Speaking of your Tiger, while I'm glad you're not bringing full ammo, you really don't need cca 30 shells. I tend to bring 22 APHE at most *but* that depends on the tank - knowing how many you're likely to even be able to fire, how many you're gonna NEED to fire in an ideal situation and knowing the layout of your ammo is all something you'd generally want to consider. The more ammo you have, the more likely that an enemy shell hits said ammo and sends your turret flying into low Earth orbit. Since you rarely need more than one shot to kill an enemy with *most* APHE, much less the based Tiger APHE which, if you're using the one with less flat pen but more filler, can overpressure. It can also depend on the map, but for the Tiger I wouldn't really bring more than 18 APHE shells. Maybe a few more if you regularly find you completely run out, but you definitely don't need like 25. Same goes for the Panther - do you really ever run out or even get low on APHE to the point you'd need *THIRTY* APHE shells? I've had 10+ ground kill matches and I never needed that much ammo. (Panthers are the opposite of Tigers - your upper front plate is already sloped so if they can already pen it, angling doesn't do shit - plus, unlike the Tiger whose sides are as thick as the front, the Panther's sides are paper-thin and it's no exaggeration to say exposing them even a little is a bad idea. You wouldn't BELIEVE at what wild angles I got penned through my side armor on my Panther.) I think I mentioned this before, but playing planes that are way lower BR in Ground RB.... Well, I guess you COULD do that, but definitely would not recommend as anti-CAS, lol (that said, a lot of War Thunder players are braindead and a lot of them also don't know how to fly...). Do you think it'd be a good idea to bring a 3.0 plane to a 6.0 Air RB match? Then why bring it to a 6.0 Ground match with the goal of fighting planes? There are ways to make a lower BR plane work, mind you - namely, if it's a bomber or a strike aircraft because in those you're attacking ground targets who are naturally at a disadvantage in most cases. To that end, a good lower tier plane to bring to 6.0 is the Bf 110 at 3.7- with a mix of 20mm and 30mm guns as well as pretty big bombs and decent rockets, you can easily obliterate armored targets and any SPAA you so much as sneeze at will be instantly atomized. The general problem with CAS, which I'm sure you're having considering the circumstances... is that you first need to grind out the plane in Air to be useful, lol. And the reason you're using lower BR planes in the first place is because you don't like playing them, so... Basically... Don't even bring planes to begin with. I know a lot of us, probably even myself, told you to bring them, but that was under a lot of, frankly, baseless assumptions we made. Better players just assuming a level of competence we think is basic but really isn't, I guess. That said, some basic principles for defensive flying (offensively your only real problem is leading your shots and slightly unstable flying but that isn't that big of a deal) - the easiest thing to remember is that you need to make sure the enemy can't get you in their sights to begin with. Barrel rolls and stuff like that is usually useless unless you're playing against a brainlet who gets confused by it. The problem is that doing a barrel roll looks fancy but your plane is still going in more or less the same direction. Just like with a car, it takes a while to change direction - you don't immediately face left if you turn your wheel left, you're still facing mostly forward. To that end, here's a pro tip - assuming you don't have to pay attention to the ground, try looking at your opponent's plane at all times. You see, planes pull UP better than DOWN, so if you can continue to roll and pull up so that the most direct way for him to aim at you is to pull down, he'll always struggle to hit you, and maybe won't be able to at all. To try and illustrate, if your plane looks like this ____A____ then relative to your plane you want his to look like this ˘˘˘˘˘V˘˘˘˘˘ and the inverse is true. Same applies to the sides - in other words, if the top of your plane is facing left, you want the top of his plane to face right. Since he can't pull down to shoot you, he will begin to turn left - so you just have to keep turning (AND PULLING UP!) so that the tops of your planes always face the opposite directions. Another thing is that the most important thing when you're flying is your ENERGY - measured in kinetic energy, aka your SPEED, and the potential energy of your ALTITUDE. In other words; Energy = Speed + Altitude. If you and your enemy are at the same altitude, you'll have the advantage if you have more speed. If you have the same speed, you will have the advantage if you have more altitude. At any point in the match, you can exchange speed for altitude, or altitude for speed - in other words, climbing and diving. Planes with exceptional energy retention, then, can dive and pull back up to nearly the same altitude and speed they were at before (since turning bleed speed and thus energy, some is always lost in this strategy). The only time your turn rate (how fast you can turn your plane around) is important is if you have the same energy or if your enemy is stupid enough to give up THEIR energy advantage in order to turnfight you (also called a ratefight) - assuming, of course, that you CAN turn better. In other words, if you're facing someone who knows what they're doing, aerial combat becomes about outsmarting the other person into having less energy than you or having more energy from the get-go by flying a plane with exceptional climb rate and speed. This is also relevant because if you have an energy advantage you always have the choice to run away from an unfavorable engagement. This all culminates in the beginner-friendly art of Boom-and-Zoom - go high up, locate target at a lower altitude, dive on them and pull back up - do NOT turnfight them, your energy is your best offensive AND defensive tool. Spending your energy on one enemy leaves you a sitting duck for anyone else. You can always simply repeat the process until your enemy is dead. Climb, locate enemy under you, dive, shoot, immediately climb again after you can no longer easily shoot them. Repeat. Comment will be in two parts as I've given YT more than it's small text box can handle.

Part II Keep in mind - some planes, at different speeds, tend to lock up and become harder to steer - in other words, their turn rate, roll rate and yaw rate becomes worse at too high speeds, and you might rip your wings off as well (though for THAT you get a warning well in advance). This is referred to as your plane compressing, as it's literally the air compressing your plane harder due to the higher speeds. This never occurs at a speed the plane can naturally achieve, but it does occur if you dive for too long - that said, you really need to be diving for a WHILE for this to happen, depending on the plane at least. You might have notices your Fw 190 compressing at around 6:20 (given a few seconds of extra time here, the actual compression happens more exactly at 6:24) which only really happened because it's a 3.0 plane - the higher the BR, the higher the quality of the plane, which means they can handle higher speeds without compressing, too. Ah, well, might be your pilot's low level, too, I guess. As for the plane that got onto your tail - he had an energy advantage. SO, how do you make him bleed energy? By making him turn a lot. When he pulled up, if you had turned around completely, that would make him have to turn too if he wants to shoot you - repeat this enough until he loses enough energy that you can fight at a more equal ground. And even if you can't, this kind of stalling (for time, not the other kind of stalling!) gives the enemy more opportunities to make mistakes and for your teammates to come to your aid. 7:15 level up your gunner's Targeting skill - not only does it increase the speed of your turret turning, but a gunner whose Targeting is low will FIRST aim horizontally and THEN vertically - the higher the level, the better the gunner is at aiming both vertically and horizontally at the same time. At the highest level, the gunner can aim in both vectors at the same time. Some SPAA advice. Shorter bursts at the moment you're most certain you'll hit (enemy is flying straight, going slow, low altitude, favorable angle etc) are generally best. You're already good in regards to relocating often - that's a genuinely good strategy. Too many SPAA just sit in spawn where not only are they ineffective but the enemy almost always know they're there. But shorter, well aimed bursts tend to be better since the enemy has a harder time figuring out where you even are, since it takes time to follow where the bullets are coming from. Of course, since your aim isn't that good YET (I fully believe you'll get better) shooting for slightly longer is fine. Like I said, you're already doing so much better than most SPAA anyway. Oh, you'll want as much explosive-type ammo for SPAA as you can get. Penetration doesn't matter since enemy planes aren't armored, right? So usually the more HEI (high explosive incendiary) or similar ammo your ammo belt has, the better. I think German SPAA also have Minengeschoß ammo, which is the best ammo against planes in the game, only afforded to German planes' cannons (20mm and higher calibers) usually, with some rare exceptions in countries that were allied with Germany or stole German planes. Well, even if I'm wrong and the SPAA don't get Minengeschoß, to reiterate, ammo that goes boom > ammo that punches through. 8:30 as you may have noticed, some tanks rely on their engine to turn the turret to a certain degree. That isn't an issue if your battery still has power, but if it goes empty, you're fucked. 10:20 Some tanks have very little explosive filler, so shooting the turret crew might not kill the enemy if they have two crew in the front of the hull. All in all I can see how you're getting better each video. You're pretty good. (A nice reference for my fellow MGS fans) Oh yeah, one last thing. Ostwind II fires a bit slower, but has stronger ammo and basically doesn't need to reload. While the armor of the Zerstorer is nonexistent for the turret crew (iirc there's two in the hull) trust me it isn't that big of a deal for an SPAA to begin with - plus, the guns on the Zerstorer are AMAZING. Only issue is it has very little ammo. For you, I'd recommend trying them all out, but I wanna predict that you'll like the Ostwind II more. Hell, you can even stick with the Wirbelwind if you wanna, killing planes gives ABYSMALLY low awards anyway. Fucking Gaijin.
