As someone that has personally spent nearly an entire decade of time and energy preaching the word of Gundam EXVS to anyone that understands the English language, this form of acknowledgement for the series warms my heart in ways I just cannot fully express. Thank you so much for this, Esteban. Hope to see you on Side 7.
The Holy Grail of arcade games, it's pretty much the missing link between fighting games and more modern team based competitive games, and the best part is that it's actually an amazing game instead of just a gimmicky experiment. It's good to see that Namco isn't screwing up every single chance for this game to become a thing in the west. I still remember back when one of my friends imported Full Boost from Japan. I really hope one day this game gets a PC port with good netcode, even if it's not the most recent version. Dissidia would be the closest thing to this game but that always struck me as a bit of a visual mess compared to EVS. Gunslinger Stratos or something is also supposedly another great competitive arcade game but don't know a lot about that one other than how it is controlled by using two handgun shaped controllers.
Seeing the MBON community grow and connect with one another has been so heartwarming. I don't hop on as much as I used to, but every time I do it's so nice seeing familiar names in the lobbies and seeing how we've all grown since launch. Such a special game. I hope the community's dedication and love allows it to continually grow.
Gundam Versus is great and needs a PC port. Gundam in general deserves more respect in the west. The original, After War Gundam X, 0080 War in the Pocket, Turn A Gundam, and Unicorn are some of my favorite Gundam anime.
The existence of Rise of Incarnates to this day still baffles me, I doubt I'll ever understand why in the Sam Hill they thought that would be more successful than something using the Gundam IP in the States.
It came out at a time when Japanese devs followed Keiji Inafune's "pitch" to appeal to western audiences. It wouldn't be a bad idea in retrospect...if their idea of appealing to us wasn't "counting how many times a character can say 'fuck.'"
@@EnvyMizuhashi well I can sorta get that but even still when it comes to the entertainment industry you typically see companies focus on familiarity, which I have mixed feelings on that said, when it comes to the core potential Millennial demographic, whether they be weebs, bros, casuals, they have a better job catching their attention with the Mobile Suits instead of their own jankass character designs. Either way you slice it, and I think you also lean towards this, these types of decisions come off as massively out of touch.
@@d.c.stranded7134 Yeah, pretty much. The shift in tones and audiences were very out-of-touch and even tone deaf in RoI. But I personally saw the characters and their designs for what they could've been if the EXVS devs were smarter about it, or took a page from Riot Games. But then the gameplay was slow and on the level of GvG games, so it had that problem going for it too.
I bought maxiboost on a whim a few months ago and forgot about it. I think I'll go back and play with my brother. My dad is a Gundam fan so he'll enjoy watching
Ive never subbed faster in my life. Gundam Versus rules so hard and its nice to see more and more people in the FGC take notice. Always thought if Bandai supported it more in the west itd be much more popular.
This is BY FAR my favorite fighting game series. It's so fast, fun, and completely reignited my love for Gundam when I discovered it years and years ago. It immediately clicked with me. The team aspect is sick. Being able to play it WITH your friend instead of always against them is really cool. It's all about neutral and finding opportunities to attack. It's an acquired taste but super addictive once you get it. My dream is it makes its way to PC someday.
It's incredibly unique and fun! I hope MBON's console release was successful enough for Bandai Namco to keep supporting the scene for many years to come.
Yo’ - thanks for putting this doc out - well done! Brett Young talking about his game and organization was great content. I dont know much about the Gundam Versus series but I could listen to this dude talk all day. Knowledgable and understanding of where the scene is as well as incredibly welcoming to a new audience, a sign of a passionate player who just wants more people to play with.
PERFECT TIMING on this video. Just participated in the Gundam Evolution beta and, while it was fun, I didn't enjoy the 6v6 overwatch/riot overwatch style of gameplay. This game looks right up my alley and I can't wait to give it a try.
I've been playing since the original EXVS on PS3 seeing community actually grow bigger give a feeling we have come a long way thx to PS4 port of MBON Hope they will port another version soon since it's already almost two years for Xboost ,arcade will have newer version take its place , then global will finally update the game to true next-gen VS. at last
I've been looking for interviews about this extremely niche game for a while, and I randomly stumble upon your video Your content is really high quality, i'm really impressed by the quality of this video !
Federation Vs. Zeon hit different back then. Being a grunt suit and being absolutely clobbered by named units was something a lot of games wouldn't do.
Love these games, they're so unique and feel they have a high skill ceiling. I wish we could get a Gundam action rpg that incorporated some of the Gundam VS/EXVS movement/mechanics.
Loved this! Thank you!!! Me and my bro love playing Maxiboost on, and we get irritated every time we wanna learn how each mobile suit works but we have to just keep playing blind till we figure out their moves. This video and the links really help!
Gundam extreme vs series need more love and attention, the game is awesome and so fun and it is definitely high adrenaline inducing, maybe we will get a port of Extreme vs 2 if it got enough love
the last gundom I played had all this mmo stuff going on. it made it really daunting to get into. also there wasn't any coop mode or anything that let us play as a team.
If it was New Gundam Breaker or just called Gundam Vs, you may have run into the bad Gundam games that Namco made for a global release. There were a couple other meh ones that made it over here before Maxi Boost knocked it out of the park. That one has local play and everything.
bandai is stepping in the right direction for gaming, elden ring, tales of arise , scarlet nexus (amazing gameplay but niche story), upcoming SD gundam alliance, LIKE WOW!
Excellent video. I can’t wait for Gundam Vs. to get the respect it deserves, and then set off another wave of arena fighters. But this time around, there’ll be more than 3 good games.
Gundam costs per the suit, totally reminds me of ps2's Gundam vs Zeta Gundam. I LOVED that game. Ground battles, space battles, underwater. Gonna buy the Maxiboost hopefully soon. Been waiting for another one of these to come out
It actually started with the very 1st of it's iteration aka "Gundam VS Gundam" on the PSP. The game started traction there rather than the Federation vs Zeon game.
I wish I was on this wave when it was breaking 😭I was really into Gundam Versus when it got it’s western release and the 2020 MS Gundam Extreme VS Maxiboost On slipped past me when it came out. I just now picked it up on sale and holy shit it’s incredible. Some things are more intuitive in standard Gundam Versus, like being able to stop boosting manually, but I’m having a blast getting my cheeks clapped online in this one. Managed to win one game and I haven’t felt more accomplished while playing a game in a long time haha
Great video, I've played a lot of EXVS FullBoost on the PS3, which is the console I have and it's a fantastic game, love playing Exia, Sinanju, Luna's Gunner Zaku and EW Wing Zero. My brother always wrecks me with Dynames tho XD
I'm sadly not an MBON player since I don't have a PS4. But I am a constant consumer for Gundam VS NEXT PLUS for the PSP, especially the Emulator. Would really want to join into playing MBON when I have the chance. For now, I'm just an audience
There was a ton of jank there - DX10 PC-exclusive game at a time when few people had DX10 GPUs, the KI "F2P" model when everyone expected League's model (fixed in later betas, but horrible first impression), dumping a truckload of money into lore stuff for a new IP nobody cared about (remember the comic?), the "gems"/stat block puzzle system (think old League Runes, that also cost ingame currency which cut into F2P buying characters), lots of weird engine things that made it feel way different from Full Boost, or even GvGN... You could have fun with Rise of Incarnates, but man...
It'd be nice if they brought these games (along with Gundam Breaker 3) to PC. I can't help but feel like it'd open up a lot more people to the series and not having to need a subscription for online is always nice.
This is pretty sick. I’ve always been a fighting game fan since as a kid, and I was always an anime fan, and I’d always see and hear about Gundam and always thought it was pretty sick. Did they say any of these games are on the ps4?
After seeing gameplays on the ps3 a while back i had to get it. Best purchase ever made and still got it. For now i currently play it on the go with the vita, I just hope they port this on steam🔥
I bought 4 copies of Gundam Versus to get my friends to play it and we loved it. I hate that English MBON is digital only. I couldn't hand out copies to my friends to play. Thats my scenes biggest hurdle. :S P.S. I LOVE THIS GAME THOUGH!
So - I have a way around this that I've been using for my local scene's weeklies. You only need two digital copies of the game to play it on four PS4s. All PSN accounts have a primary system designated to them, so on those consoles, you can load up the game on any guest account because the game is owned by the owner of the system, in terms of account rights. On the consoles that aren't set for being the primary for those accounts, you simply need to sign in to the PSN accounts that own those copies, download it, and launch the game from those accounts. Bingo. You now have four consoles running two copies of the game. Just connect it up via ethernet to a router / switch, and you're set.
Great vid! I've been playing competitively since Gundam vs Gundam since I was in Japan in 2008. I'm glad I was able to help introduce a little bit it to the west scene back when Gundam Extreme Vs came out on PS3. Seeing how much it's grown since then, especially compared to the first Evo Brett and the gang ran it back in like 2012, is just fantastic.
anyone know the old arcade machine with 2 stick to control your gundam i play that when i was like 7 years old at arcade but i dont know the name i know just gundam. also the rise of reincarnate i know that game never had a chance to play it, i was in college that time and i completely forgot about that game existence.
Let's go Bunny Boy Maid Cafe! Too bad the camera's weren't rolling the night earlier when everyone was drunk on whiskey and soju in the hotel lobby randoming teams.
EXVS is very similar, both games were made by the same developer. The most major difference is that you can stepcancel melee in EXVS, which opens up a massive world of maneuvering options as well as combo string (and therefore damage) extension.
Both will work. The only things that might feel a little strange are swerve / swivel (input rotation during boost dash and jump, respectively). On the other hand, blocking (2~8) and stepping (any direction twice) feel extremely easy on Hitbox.
I remember RoI. Not the name, just playing it and being kind of nice at it. I really liked it back then. But guess I've got to save up money for a playstation now... Because I did like Gundam vs in an arcade where I'm from. And that arcade is in Europe. EDIT: GUNPLA is Lego for adults. I can see even kids being able to make that.
I can see what Armored Core 6 tried to imitate with its PvP, and this looks way better than AC6 PvP honestly. AC6 is a great single player game but the PvP in Last Raven and For Answer were way better rather than being a not as good imitation of Gundam VS.
Bandai are strange just release Gundam supreme battle and earn money. Problem of Japanese companies is that senior management are too old don't understand z and millennials and lose opportunities to earn money
Been follow this game since for longer then I know.. and since Extreme On came out I wanted to show other this great game.. but now its only my wife and I who play this but the EU scene (maybe Im wrong here) is kinda low on players.. anyone who know where I can find a Discord server with Gundam fans please link to me :D
I bought this game 3 days ago..but i cannot find any players online..any tips i can change to find players?..i 'm from malaysia,i dunno if regions got something to do in finding matches, but please help me
I bought this game a a few months back, I still play it from time to time. Been wanting to put it on my channel , It's hard to get a actual match tho, So I just play all the mobile suits in 1 player mode..wish people still played it in the west.
