Hair History is back! In this series, we're going to walk through all of European women's hairstyling history together, from the classical age until the 20th century. Each episode is focused on a specific era, and of course there will be a hair tutorial for each era as well. I'm really excited to present the first episode, which deals with Ancient Greece and Rome. Enjoy watching!

RESEARCH & SOURCES
I try my best to keep the information I share in this series as correct and accurate as possible. I base my information mostly off of primary sources, and some secondary interpretations of those sources by people who have (preferably scientific) authority in the field. Richard Corson's Fashions in Hair is one of those wonderful resources that I rely heavily on.
Please keep in mind though that the goal of these videos is mostly to entertain, and only lightly educate. Even though I have a bit of experience in researching obscure topics and navigating barely studied aspects of history through my degree (in Celtic studies), this isn't my field of expertise. Each of these videos could be its own complete life-long research project, but it's not my intention to take things that far. I can't guarantee I won't fall into traps of common misconceptions or plain incorrect information a few times throughout this series.
Even though there's a fair bit of source material available regarding hair styling history, not much has been published regarding it, and heavily peer-reviewed sources are scarce. This is one of those topics where we still have a lot to learn, and there is simply so much we don't yet know or can't say for certain.
In summary: I try my best, but please take what I say here with a grain of salt.

My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel you'll find a decade's worth of hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and have regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my joy, as is my latest passion: sewing and costuming.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and slow & conscious living videos.
Enjoy browsing!
Love,
Lucy

Hi! Person living in Greece here. Kore (pronounced kori), is actually associated with goddess Persephone:) (its how they depicted her, basically) because, she is linked to the "maiden" archetype, and you can see her statues in many museums with that specific hair. So, in Greece, the specific statues you have included in the video are statues of Kore-Persephone.

Great video! I personally would love to see an accurate historical hair tutorial for each hairstyle, since there weren't hair elastics during the ancient greece and roman period.
@Loepsie
@Loepsie 2 года назад
I understand! It would be very interesting to see the styles as they were done back then. I've decided against demonstrating historically accurate hair styling methods in this series though, for various reasons: 1. Very often we just don't know how exactly certain styles were achieved, or the things we do know are very fragmented 2. Where we do know how styles were achieved, they often involve use of specific tools and products that I don't have access to 3. Many of the products I do have access to are animal-derived, and I don't want to purchase/use/promote animal products (big one) 4. I want the tutorials to be accessible and easy to recreate with tools and products people are likely to already own Hope that makes sense! 😁

Really lovely and a well done overview of the hairstyles. I just wanted to note that it would be helpful if you provided (approximate) dates for the sculptures depicted. The korai are minimum 500 years older than some of the Roman sculptures depicted, which I think is very important to consider when investigating these hairstyles. Perhaps something you can include in later videos :)

Simply beautiful. Stunningly accurate and almost “ Biblical “ looking . I love how you are “ re-doing “ hair history. I was wondering since you took “ Celtic “ studies at University, that you’d maybe take a crack at the Celtic Knot or braiding from the time of Isolde and Tristan . I’d love to see that .

@@KarinaDoRego That's not a tiny bottle. It's actually bigger than my Prose bottle (which is 8.5 fl ounces.) I use half the amount I used when using drugstore or even other premium brands. 8.5 fl oz lasts 3 months. If you're going through a gigantic 1 or 2 liter bottle in 3-6 months, you're washing your hair incorrectly.

I don’t see how you would describe the hair on these statues other then braids. They’re obviously braids. If I may be so bold I think you’re afraid to say braids as to not upset certain people. Give facts. Don’t worry about how petty people behave. Don’t let it get in the way of sharing facts and the fact of the matter is that these statues have their hair in braids. If you want to revamp the series, then don’t feel like you have to walk on eggshells
