I fail to understand the concept of novelization. I understood the origins (the first happened when VHS wasn´t even a thing so it was a way to experience the movie again whenever). But after VHS became a thing I´m surprised they kept making them and that it can be better than a movie. For instance, I watched THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS first. Then read the book and the adaptation was the same. Can´t recall if there was even something different.
@@justicierodelaliga Why would there be an novelization of the movie if it was already based on a novel to begin with? I think they just put a tie-in cover on the original novel for that one. The true movie adaptations are often based on original scripts so if any changes were made, you get to read what was intended, lots of the authors would add more depth and characterization, back story, extra scenes so they can be really fun to read.
@@justicierodelaliga that case the movie fallowed the book will dumbass all dr Lecter movie are based on books man hunt and red dragon are both based on red dragon book same with since of the lambs and Hannibal hell Evan Hannibal rising
I have to admit I was impressed by the Halloween novelization by Curtis Richards. His backstory set in ancient Celtic Ireland with the Druid princess Dierdre and the stable boy Enda, Enda killing Dierdre and her husband on their wedding night, and the Druid priests cursing Enda's spirit to walk the Earth eternally as "the Boogeyman" provide a supernatural anchor for Michael Myers.
There's a fun little Easter Egg in the H3 novelization. At one point Challis is watching Halloween on a TV in the bar and mentions that he doesn't know why, but he dislikes one of Laurie's friends. Nancy Kyes played Annie Loomis and Challis' ex-wife.
Back in 1981 when I was in 2nd grade I saw the novelization for part 1 and 2 at the public library. My mom used to take us there on Saturday afternoons and we could check out a book for the week. I picked part 1 and my mom had no idea it was a horror movie novelization because on the cover it had the ghost with a pumpkin head on it. I got the shit scared out of me that week reading the book. The next week I got part 2 and it continued the trauma 😂. During that time also Halloween II came out to theaters and my cousin and I begged my uncle to let us go to it so he took us, he and my other cousin watched Time Bandits and my cousin and I watched Halloween II. It was probably the scariest experience of my young life😂 the scene where the nurse got stabbed in the back and lifted up made me jump out of my seat. After the movie was over we ran out of the theater to go find my uncle and other cousin who were enjoying Time bandits. We got to watch the last 30 minutes of it to kind of decompress. That movie stuck with me for years. Michael Myers would invade my dreams for decades 😂 my mom found out about us going to Halloween II and was so mad at my uncle because I didn't want the lights turned off when I went to sleep and she asked me why? I said Michael Myers mask is in the room when the lights go off 😂 it was still with it watching that movie to me. I used to own the novelizations to the first two Halloween movies and the first four to Friday the 13th movies but in the 20s I gave them away to my younger brothers friend. Now those book are so high priced I'll never get them again. I guess i got carried away and wrote a bit of a novel here 😂
I had a similar experience with seeing H1 at age "too young", scared the absolute shit out of me. Slept with the lights on for years, used to walk the dog at night, didn't do that anymore, now my mother had to do it. She was pissed as hell. 😂 I saw his face everywhere for years. 😅
This was fun! Hope you'll consider doing more book-themed videos now and then. Chelsea Quinn Yarbro is another recognized author who wrote at least one novelization, for "Dead and Buried."
I got the H3 book from a second hand book place when I was younger lol. The other slight difference is Cocrane death is better explained but if I recall is implied he actually was not killed. Been a while since I read it.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Foster via email in undergrad! It was for a presentation on why people write fiction. Nice guy and gives good straight answers.
Honestly this was a unique touch for the slasher glory days. And learning Dean Koontz wrote the novelization of “The Funhouse” surprised me. “April Fool’s Day” is one that actually adhered to the original ending they had planned to fit the slasher formula; I think the finished product actually ditched it and played a joke on its audience 😅 Also Alan Dean Foster’s novelizations are great. I read “Force Awakens” and it was good & I currently have the audiobook version of “Alien 3” in my Audible list
Season of the witch is obviously a Halloween based movie like the other two installments but also I can watch season of the witch in the fall which runs through like November 😂
Many thanks for this, as I'm 57 & remember reading these bks b/c I couldn't see their R-rated movies. I was unaware they were still making them! Kinda cool! There is another "Halloween" novel, & it's about a serial killer. I forget the author, but a disclaimer says it has nothing to do w/the movie. It came out abt the same time as the movie, & I remember the cover showing a haymound w/a foot sticking out of it. I never did read it, but should just to settle a 40-yr wonder about what it was about...! Thanks for the memories!
Since this video was made...I´d like you to another one but of the Alien novel. I´ve read that it is amazing and would like to see if it is true. PS Another one that I read that was incredible, surpisingly enough, is the one from Godzilla (2014).
I kinda like the novelizations of Halloween Halloween ii and Halloween iii Season Of The Witch i'm hoping some publisher should do reprint of the film's novelization they did reprint the novelization of Ghostbusters 1&2 a year ago I'm hoping some movie novelization should get a reprint one day i'm interested of the film"s novelization also great video on The Halloween Novelizations i'm a fan of this film and i like the novelization of it i'm hoping someone should filmed the ending of the Halloween iii Season Of The Witch because that ending was interesting to me also i like Halloween iii Season Of The Witch because it's my favorite of all the Halloween films.
What’s wrong with it? Were you expecting Michael Myers in it like everyone back in the 80s did ? If it was simply called Season of the Witch there would have been no confusion on what the movie is
