Anyone who thinks the Handmaid's Tale is unrealistic doesn't understand that EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of this show is actually happening on somewhere on earth.

I like this because it demonstrates the lack of communication between men and women on societal problems and a lot of it goes over the audiences heads which demonstrates the point of it and makes it even better.

In reading multiple peer reviewed, researched, scholarly pieces about the incredible spike in online sexual predatory towards children and domestic violence towards women in the face of the pandemic-my own husband brushed me off. I sent him this...thank you . Men of the world-we will love you if you love us. Supporting the rights of women and girls is the sexiest thing out there right now.

This level of ignorance and obliviousness is scary. This can be applied to any situation where a group or community that is being oppressed tries to explain it to others who aren't being directly affected. This is beyond scary because it's happening all around us right now.

And we now have a Supreme Court justice who was part of a religious group like this. Great.

I read "Handmaids Tale" during college in the 80's and it scared the crap out of me (a progressive athiest) at the time with Falwell and the christian right in ascendance - sadly, it is coming true and we are now on the doorstep of a truly horrifying dystopia

Really deep. And it's not about the specific issues about oppressing women.This is how we handle ALL issues. We only stand up if something hurts OUR lifes. So in the hand we don't have any issues with enough people standing up for it, and the lawmakers can get away with anything. If we would stand up for each others issues as well, what we support, but doesn't directly affect our lifes, we would have real results for all of us.

This just reminded me of that law in North Carolina that essentially said that women can't withdraw consent. There's a bill that's been sent to override it but it hasn't gone through yet and even so the fact that theres a law allowing a form of rape in the western world is disgusting.

This is even more “too soon” now, than it was three years ago....

And the fucked up part is that so many mans would totally act just like that and do act just like that. Well intended dude that think women don't do something because they don't want to. Though look at it this way, at least they realize there is a problem

It's honestly horrible how far people will go to deny that sexual assault/abuse happens. I know that both men *and* women are sexually assaulted or abused, I'm never going to deny that. Our society is honestly becoming scary, though. When I was 8 years old, my (ex) best friend assaulted me, for a long time I tried to deny it and push it down and I've only recently realised what happened. One of the things that scared me most about what happened was that I know he must have been influenced by someone, somehow. He always tried to follow in the footsteps of his parents and I've always been worried that they did something to cause him to behave like that. Hearing people say that women aren't oppressed honestly hurts me, because I've experienced it first hand. I even hear girls from my school tell jokes about rape and abuse, part of me is happy they don't know what it's like, but people need to know about this stuff more. We need to be aware that it can happen to anyone, no matter the gender, race or sexuality.

They film units did not plan for the rain. The behind the scenes of this film was so correct because the rain helped the sketch feel more dark.

Did you know that religious conservatives worldwide hold remarkably similar views - regardless of what organized religion they belong to? Islamic conservatives and Christian conservatives and Jewish conservatives agree on many things even as they supposedly oppose each other.
