His second wife was definitely a KEEPER. she has an actual spiritual quality that is definitely not lost on me. Hank did good when he got with her. I'll bet if he'd lived they would have gone the distance. she impressed the crap out of me.
i grew up listening to Hank ''my god they'll never be another great singer like Hank his music has saved my life on many many different occasions all my grand kids love to listen to Hank Williams
I remember the day after Hank died. We were at my uncle's house "killin' hogs". My cousin was standing at the cast iron heater warming his hands and telling about Hank Williams' death. My cousin, my father and mother, my uncle, aunt, and all the adults who were there that day are now gone. I'll never forget that moment in time.
I also watched all 5 parts. Learned alot. George Jones and Waylon Jennings loved this special man and his uniqueness. And I am glad too see Hank Williams III sharing this great music that so few now know or have heard. Thanks for sharing.
WOW - I'm sitting here crying tears of sadness for this poor tortured soul. And how ironic that even in death he couldn't escape Audrey. When it stated she is buried next to him I was shocked. I wonder whose decision it was to bury her next to the man she ruined. So sad !
Hank Jr. made that choice. I’d agree that they weren’t good for each other but it wasn’t her fault alone. Hank had “demons” he never was able to successfully cope with.
Dear some people just doing care they forgot about love and how important it is . He loved Audrey for sure but hank was also wild with other women he broke the bond of trust .
I just want to add that the quote Hank's Widow said towards the end, "there are worse things than death",I thought that was a very wise thing to say,the way she said that.
i had coffee this here Sat. june 22, watched all and enjoyed all. I live here in Montgomery about 1/4 mile up the road here from Hanks grave. When i was 5, i used to sit on Virginia Hensley's lap when she would come over to the apple orchard to visit Mom & Dad. She would sing and dad would play guitar. She later entered a singing contest and won. She was told her name Virginia didn't sound like star material, so she changed it to Patsy Cline!
I don't know I'm drunk right now but sometimes it helps!!!!!!! I'm not saying that's the answer certainly love Hank's music and always will!!! I guess Jim Morrison said no one gets out of here alive but Hank left one hell of a legacy and I for one I'm sure proud have listen to his music and still do thank you
Our creator made the stars in heaven ,and Hank William talent of writing stories about the suffering that endures to this day made him a star that will shine forever in our hearts and souls.
gut-wrenching. I feel I've watched a broken man tortured to his death. Hi's songs were not perceived but a written record of his tortured life. Wish I could have met Hank Williams.
+Randal Bruner You need to read Colin Escott's "Hank Williams, The Biography". When people read this book, they will understand Hank Williams. He was like a puzzle that would not go together, because the pieces didn't fit.
That was a terrific series! I perform at a lot of seniors residences and Hank's songs are the highlghts of the show. Every night I end with "I Saw The Light", and it's always a great sing a long. His music will live on a long, long time. Craig Schroter, Lindsay, Ontario Canada.
Excellent. Filled in a lot of gaps in my admittedly limited knowledge of his life. Also, so many of the songs were things I've heard over the years, performed by him or others. Truly prolific artist.
I cry every time I listen to all this; oh how I wish someone could have helped that dear man. If he could have been free of pain, and ate right and took medicine right, he may have lived longer. He was sick and they kept sending him to shows he didn't want to do anymore. What kind of life is that? Makes me so sad.
First heard Hank at my friend's house at the age of fifteen (I'm 68 now) and thought he was the best thing I'd ever heard then - and still do. Taken far too soon....
I used to know Billie Jean back in the early 1980's. She was quite a character. I have a couple of her songs up on my channel. She had a stroke over 10 years ago and has lived in assisted living since. The home she lived in at that time, which is where her part of this was filmed, was sold just a couple of months ago, after sitting empty for years. Most people in Shreveport either really liked her or really didn't. I was young when I knew her, so I liked her wild ways.
I loved this! I've always loved this man's songs. I didn't know a black man showed Hank Williams how to play. I didn't know of the marital problems he endured. Hank Williams, Sr. an American treasure.
This story shows how hard it is to lead life as public property. Considering his domestic difficulties with Audrey, his disability, plus the exhausting performing and recording obligations I think Hank did rather well, but it could never last. If it had worked out better with Audrey things could have been different. But it also shows a man can love more than one woman at the same time.
man that part gives me chills where he said the only thing i seen him eat for 2 or 3 weeks was eggs with ketchup on em and that was all hed eat and then that lonesome whistle comes in. Old hank man what else can u say
I'm crying for him, greatest songwriter; Hank sang from his heart and soul was a compassionate songwriter, The alcohol didn't help he needed medical attention. I love to hear him sing your Cheatin Heart and Cold Cold Heart. I think he wrote these songs, they tell his story.
He has his spot in Heaven! I took the time to watch all of these, but I could not find #3? It's all good, AWESOME TRIBUTE and the memories I never got to know, I used to hear his music on the country radio @ my grandparents home. Talk about someone who SHAPED and DEFINED Country Music today. Yep. THANKS!!!!!!
I learned a few things about the Man, they say your story stops when you die. Maybe so, i think the way Hank stays with us might be from his early years learning how to play those southern blues and church singing somehow taught him how to put your soul in a song, I don't know much but i feel like it stayed in some of them to this day and that's the energy we get from those dusty tunes. They are timeless in a way. You can be anywhere any place and Hank song pops up and there you go, all of a sudden you are not where you were anymore. Not many thing in this world can transport your mind like that. R.I.P. Hank your songs are doing just fine and if lll was the one responsible for trying to get your story in perspective. Buy him a beer, when he catches up to you. jboveranout
Great uploads, just starting to scratch into some of his music and he is a very interesting man. There should have been a proper movie made about him by now. There's one from the 60's, but if there was a current one I would be the first one in line to see it!
his musical genius was so strong he wouldn't have had any difficulty keeping up with changes in music. in fact, if he had lived his presence would have been a really big influence on what came after him. this guy was a really powerful force in the history of american music. he's the greatest american songwriter since stephen foster and no one has come close since, at least in the usa.
Great upload. I had a look at your channel.. wow man, a veritable archive of great stuff: Hank Williams, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ray Charles, Gospel, Stax, Richie Havens, C&W, Blues, '60s Folk & "protest-singers"... can't remember them all, too many to list! You've done a terrific job.. I have quite a few hours of great viewing ahead of me. Well done Corporal! Thanks for these posts
Nah, Hank Jr sounded exactly like his daddy when he started out. What's sad is that both aren't alive today. Although the greats will always live on ✌❤🌟
Great! Thank you for the upload. BBC missed on interesting and important detail (to my knowledge at least): The guy at the end talking about being champion of the world (I don't know his name). I heard him say in a clip that Hank had told him on new years eve one year before his death "I will be dead within a year if I don't get her back". Hank died exactly one year later. Spooky...
i think this was re-edited. it wasn't any better than the first way but since i watched the first one twice, this was a very nice surprise. thanks so much fellow hank-o-philes.
Jeez, I have severe chronic back pain, worn out rotator cuff etc, with the strength of the drugs back then and poor Hank still couldn't get some relief, DANG, no wonder he binge drank!!!
subscribed, not much of a country fan(well what they call country now)what was once country is thought of as folk i think it seems.i grew up listing to all the great story story tellers.im just glad that there is hope.with hank III and avett brothers etc,.just good ole home roots music, stuff you and your friends can pick and sing on the porch with your family and friends.not worried about fame or fortune, just make making music.ill go listen to hank III now.he looks and can sound like his grandpa
hank had that silent lonely place inside that the truely original artist many times have. it was both a curse and a gift. w/o it, he never writes the enduring material he did. w/ it he had to face the pit of loneliness. that pit can swallow you up.
This is part 5 of the Ha nk Williams story. You can bring up part 1, 2 and 4.there is no 3. I like this because of what Billy Jean (widow) had to say.
Ever since the technology to be able to record and play back audio has existed; it seems that about once (or twice if we are lucky),about every decade or so; an artist will come along that is so special and ground breaking; they will have either become the inventors of a whole new genre of music, or at least come to personify the genre or style music that gets mostly associated with them. In the case of someone like Hank Williams, he is one of those artists. He is Country music period. His music is literally everything that The Classic Country Music Genre is,and should be! Although, probably highly unlikely in this day and age. Let's say hypothetically speaking, someone was to come along who had never, ever in their lives heard a second of any Country music whatsoever. Perhaps, someone maybe explained to them what Country music maybe sounded like, but that was it,they literally never heard a single note of Country Music ever. If this person were to come to you, and ask you to play/let them hear an example of what Country music sounded like, you would have to play them a Hank Williams song. You would just have to. There aren't too many artists that come along who are able to become in a sense the style of music for a whole entire genre, like that. Perhaps the same could be said for Rockabilly music when comparing and listening to those early Sun Recordings that Elvis Presley made? Or a modern day equivalent might be someone like,Kurt Cobain and what his music was and did for Grunge or Alternative rock? To me this is one of the highest accolades of music that can bestowed upon an artist. To be so special that you in a way or sense actually become known as the genre of the music that it is you mostly played. When I think of, or hear the name Country Music, the name Hank Williams always immediately comes to mind! It's almost in a sense similar to how Kleenex has become universally known as a tissue. Sure, there are other tissue companies out there, but most people,(or at least most older generation people), still seem to refer to tissues as Kleenexes. So in my mind, its important that we try and keep the legacy and great songs of these legendary artists like Hank Williams Sr. alive and in the forefront of pop culture as much as we can, in order to be able to keep reaching the younger generations; who seem in this day and age,(thanks to the mainstream media's constant assault of propaganda), to be drifting further away from classic talents such as Hank Williams; in part or mostly due to the onslaught of modern gadgets such as video games, tablets, and of course the constant barrage of crappy, watered down mainstream made pop. Hank is Country,as Elvis is Rockabilly period!
I'm 59. I can only think of three that had the impact that they had. No Michael Jackson is not one of the. He was close. Hank williams Elvis presley The Beatles. Tell me who I'm missing that reached that same level?
How great - I went through childhood and got grown up quick listening to the pain in this man's voice. I was young but I understood. Don't like Audrey or that son of his none.
Hank was great. Great songwriter. But Don't forget about Bob Dylan.. He had an impressive list of songs written before he was 30, just like Hank. Hank's songs have stood the test of time, just like Dylan and the Beatles.
this was awesome thx a lot hank you were a stand up guy with a lot of problems but still a stand up guy. cheers dude will always listen to your music till the day i die
4:29.....I'm not suprised that "doctor" pumped Hank full of pharmaseuticals. It's an old game. Even today some "doctors" advise taking medications over eating the proper foods that have all the vitamins you need to feel better and have energy. I learned this from one of the (TED) Lecture videos.
+Jessica I You might be interested to know Billie Jean is alive and well in an assisted living complex in Shreveport, La. She is about 83 now. She was a good friend with my wife in 1951; she was dating Faron Young. She lived next door to us.I was stationed at Barksdale AFB, outside Shreveport from '49-"52.

@@MB-cx2ks He was only here for a very short time but he burned very bright while he was passing through. We still talk about him and listen to his music nearly 70 years after his passing. I think he fits the definition of a shooting star.
thanks so much - always thought hank was the greatest country singer/ songwriter ever!!! btw -after hank's death billie jean married johnny horton??? that woman has been through some serious grief.
