After enduring a lengthy flight delay at LaGuardia Airport, Nelson arrives in Atlanta and discovers he's the happiest he's ever been. Video by Nelson Sullivan
He says, "idk what time it is where u are" as if he was referring to all us watching him, like he knew all this would be posted on RU-vid years later, very interesting nelson.
@@albalexramirezelizo6666 but he died in the 80's he was ahead of his time he would have probably invented RU-vid first if he was still alive may you rest in Peace Nelson.. 🙏🏽
As I recall playing an old game by Lucas Arts recently I noticed on the graphics screen a shop with a window that had the logo of RU-vid on it exactly as it is today and that game was made in 1987... I was flabbergasted!!😲
World of Wonder (the production company Randy Pop founded) make a documentary in the 90s about him for UK TV. I believe it's just called "Nelson Sullivan's World of Wonder."
Can’t call someone now because your phones dead/forgot your charger! That actually happened to me in an airport, and you have to pay to use an airport charger 😩
@avg5 I have been reading people's comments in the videos and everyone seems to point out a characteristic of his that I also see. Doesn't he look like Al Pacino?
I watch these videos over, and I cannot imagine who nelson thought would be watching these little gems, each one is like a time capsule. In the 80’s there was no you tube, no social media, yet he’s vlogging like any modern youtuber it’s bizarre, but totally compelling.
Zach Skeletor because for what reason would he be vlogging in the 80’s ? There were no platforms for anyone to see them. They must have been for his own use but now being watched by thousands
Oneshotup No. I spoke of having a personal relationship with the Creator of all things. I said nothing of the fairy tale faith of postmodernism or evolution.
Nelson seems like a zen master, like he’s way more evolved than the average person. He just has this really calm, benign energy. what a fascinating man.
I’m on RU-vid one day and I run across a video of a guy with a camera going to McDonald’s. And now even though he’s been dead for 30 years, I am transfixed with this man and his channel. And, yes, to this day I’m always impressed with those walkways at the Atlanta airport. It’s 2020 and they feel futuristic to me!
Wow thats the same video that popped up on my feed and got me started and then hours into videos I hear him mention Michael Allig and then find out he was hanging out with the club kids and the one who took all the footage of them and even had the video of the Christmas party at Michael and Keokis apartment that they reenacted on Party Monster and that's when I really fell down the rabbit hole. I would have loved to met Nelson. RIP
Indeed Nelson was without a doubt ahead of his times and a visionary, his videos predate and in a way ushered reality video recording, Video Bloggs, Snapchat. He was very deliberate not just about preserving a visual document about the times, goings on and nightlife personalities of NYC,but also stylistically he created a new way of filming and photographing very much like having a selfie stick now, creating images where he manages to include himself in the subject matter, really artistic and all his own. He was a pioneer and I hope i get to see him get the mainstream recognition he deserves
Manuel Ferreiro it's so interesting because there was no where to post these videos in those days, so he wouldn't have gotten the instant gratification people get from social media these days. He was playing the long game
i think it makes these videos even more profound.. he documented his amazing life and i am so grateful he isn’t representing products or concerned with getting likes.. these videos stand on their own beautifully 🌸
Nelson is great, but give me a break, there is nothing artistic about the selfie. It was invented when someone wanted to point the camera at themselves. Period. And I promise it happened far before this.
I love Nelson's calm, polite demeanor and gentle voice. I'm very sorry I never knew him - he looks like someone me and my family would have been delighted to have as a friend. ❤️
Tikhon Bondarchuk -- If you are in a general area and only filming a reunion with a family member or something, you should be ok. However, if you are seen recording security areas like people coming in and out security doord or the security cameras then you can easily find yourself with an issue.
Nelson Sullivan. So many great things about him. He was a gentleman. He had a great spirit about him. He was ahead of his time, there's no doubt about it. He was kind to everyone. He also , had such a great and freeing walk about him. Nelson, I love you ! 🍃⚘🍃
“Something out of a futuristic film, there’s a magic moving walkway.” Imagine if he discovered the touch screen he would have gone crazy! Rest In Peace man.
@Valiant Thor They say that he made over 100 of these videos. These videos pretty much documents his life once he got into N.Y.. He does take us back to Atlanta where he was raised. Goes through his pictures when he was a kid. We are watching his original documentary of his life. I don't know if any other production company could make it as genuine as he has through his videos.
"We're talking about major deserted" I bust out laughing because that airport looks like the apopcalyspe 😂 Loved this video. What a treasure. RIP Nelson.
“Like something out of a futuristic film...there’s a moving walkway”😂 Nelson was adorable😍 He was way ahead of his time, literally the very first vlogger. It’s not surprising he had so many friends that loved him, how can you not fall in love with him?! ❤️
I can't explain how i feel watching & listening to Nelson. I love his voice, accent & how calm he was. He would have been great on any TV show. This is a lovely time capsule of the 1980s. Notice how chilled they are? No mobile phones a more relaxing environment. We had to rely on pay phones. Made you really appreciate people more👍 RIP Nelson ❤❤❤im watching this on a Sunday morning
This man was so ahead of his time. Fascinating. Feb. 2, 1989...I was a Sr. In high school. I loved when he said, "I can't call them, I don't have a quarter." So intrigued that those young today can't identify with that situation to be in.
I'm currently producing an album called "Emotionauts" and I just clipped the last statement *"I believe this is the happiest I've ever been"* to add as a soundbyte on one of the more uplifting songs on the album. A way to honor this awesome dude and maybe even spread a little more awareness about him. I think everyone should know about him and his wonderful time capsules!
The way he spoke came off as slightly unemotional to me and was hard to interpret at first but after listening to him long enough to get to know him, the way he talks is really uplifting and endearing, especially when seeing how he interacted with others around him. He seemed to have a really sweet soul. RIP Nelson, wish I could run into you on the street today.
I am thoroughly convinced that this man is a time traveler. He came from around the time when RU-vid first started. He knew what was the future and he traveled back in time to this era when you could use a video camera to record and knew that one day his friend Dick would be able to upload these videos to the internet for us to watch which is why he is talking to us and the video. In fact I'm convinced that he told Dick when and what year to start doing it. I am sold that time travel is real after watching this man's videos.
This video was shot on Feb. 2, 1989 just shy of my 26th birthday. I officially moved to Atlanta for good in June 1990 from South Carolina but I briefly lived in Atlanta for 6 months in 1987- 1988. I visited Atlanta many many times...mostly to the gay bars in the mid to late 1980's. I remembered some of those Atlanta video scenes of the 1980's Atlanta. Wow, this was 30 years ago!!!!!! I wondered if Nelson and I paths ever crossed a few times...maybe not but it would be nice to have met him. He is such a sweet friendly guy, Nelson and I are both native South Carolina boys. Watching him puts a smile on my face. RIP Nelson.
It's a shame more people don't know who Nelson Sullivan is. Although there are videos of other people who have done vlogging type videos in the 80s so he may not have been the first ever. However, he seemed like a natural at vlogging and his editing was on point. His work really is ahead of it's time, he literally took the camera wherever he went.
@Z 28. When I began watching his videos. I thought these are fun to watch. I was looking forward to watching future videos and then I came up to a video that informed us he died. I was so sad
I've always hoped that if there is an afterlife, as we think of it, that Nelson knows how much his content is enjoyed on a platform he never knew would exist, but would cater perfectly to his vlogging hobby.
A normal man living a normal life. A life that is only truly important to only a handful of people and a life that meant the world to himself... Respect. Thank you for these videos. They are truly humbling.
Reminds me that everything, including the airport, can be profound and beautiful and simple and mundane all at the same time, when viewed from the right perspective.
I love the sound of those shoes. The sound of confidence. Thanks for this! To hear him say at the very end of this video that he believes this is the happiest he's been was touching.
Feb 2 is my birthday. I turned 5 years old when he made this video. Was pretty cool to see that date, took me back to some of the few memories I have of that age.
Nelson,,,it is 3:36 am,.2021,,,you can talk to me ANYTIME!,,,these videos keep me company when I feel lonely and stuck in the future like Nelson is in the past.it is some kind of wonderful and I know there are thousands of others on the same trip!!!,,,some kind of magical too Nelson!!!you have created a real art ,never to be equaled !👏👏👏👏🕊🕊🕊🙏🕊🕊🕊🌈😘🌎❤️🌎
Whenever I hear that beautiful drawl of his my heart melts...Beautiful man.. Nelson I was down to my last $5 in Atlanta Airport in the 1980's.. put it in my jean jacket pocket.. and never saw it again...Fast hands in Atlanta. RIP.. my favorite Vlogger.. and ya didn't even know it.
I was a video maker in the 80s too and watching Nelson has made me go and post my videos on my Face book page......pulled one out recently about the people in my small home town and in two days had 20 thousand views and over 200 shares ...thank you Nelson my inspiration
damn these videos have such a weird vibe, so captivating always wanted a time machine but the way Nelson just connects with you it's like im right there taggin along lol.
Its funny to hear him say something similar to what my parents said last time we had to go to Atlanta Airport regarding how big it is! I am so grateful for all of his footage!!!! He pretty much kick started youtube!
Now these dayz you just dont want to talk or even look at anyone because you dont have a quarter... ..those were the days that you could have fun and surround yourself with people even when you're poor.
@THENEVERDEADIV I am going to tell others about his videos as I go through my various channels. I want to boost his viewers. His family or the person who is 5ninthavenue Project should get paid for uploading these for us.
it’s currently February 2021, and I feel like I would’ve been such good friends with Nelson. It’s so insane to me that at the time he was filming his videos he had no idea how far they would reach. I just hope he is somewhere looking down and seeing how far his videos have gotten, and how many people have followed along with his life. He seemed like such a beautiful soul.
Many people smile with their charm, wit and eyes. His voice , so soothing draws you in. They talked about a visiting a friend in the hospital. I was 21 in 1989 and visiting a friend in a hospital as well during that era. Sad times for many because of aids and ignorance.
I know he didn't know there'd ever be a RU-vid or that his videos would reach over a million views, but it's still uncanny how natural he is talking to the camera like a modern day vlogger. The appeal and perspective he gives to viewers, as if we're there with him.
