I like that he doesn’t beat up rich people for money or steal or something, that feels more EVIL. He just grows fruit. Fruit of HATE AND DEATH AND TART SUBTLE FLAVORS!!!
One of the coolest things if you happen to beat Akuma in the arcade is when the end credits are showing with all the characters, usually the one you played will be the last to be shown. But instead of that, the one will be shown is the "kill cam" of how you beat Akuma. It's a nice little touch and incentive for beating him.
@@SuperPeterok Probably not. Z Broly is a sadistic monster who likes to kill people while Akuma is a warrior with a code of honor that while seems strange to most people, doesn't exactly make him evil (despite him bragging as such in some of his win quote, but that's probably because he accessed Satsui no Hado so much, idk). Maybe Super Broly, but we don't know if Akuma will encourage Super Broly to control his rage or let him use said rage to be more powerful so he can have the best fight in his life
Fun fact :akuma isn't mean to kids or women such as Elena from 3rd strike because if her childlike nature, she seems to actually keep akuma calm somehow .
So that is why there are some fanarts of Elena with Akuma together. Those are really charming... But we also need some NSFW art 😈 Edit: I REGRET NOTHING!
It was only a few years ago when I found out that that was an April Fool’s joke. I miss that era of gaming where you could do rumors and jokes like that. 😅
That little piece of lore for Akuma is one of my favorite things. He's a demon, fighting and killing for his own dark power but even then he just sells fruit and things to get money for his travels. Shows he desires power but gets it from fighters not murdering random people.
It's another aspect alongside his moral code that makes him my favorite character. He's not evil like bison. He's a dark character, but he doesn't canonically succumb to it which is what I love about him.
@@Jacob1451_Kapnobatai Satsui no Hado is "murderous intent," not necessarily evil. Just like a cat beating a mouse to death. Not really evil, just murderous.
I think it says a lot about his discipline and dedication to fighting. Like, fighting is all he is about. The rest of the world is not in his way, he just seeks challenge in fighters who COULD be like him.
If I recall correctly, the people making the SFII animated movie didn't even know about Akuma until way later in development (because, y'know, he was such a mysterious character) so that's why he only appears as a static background character, because that was the only way they could've added him in the movie at that point, they just painted him on a cel sitting and selling fruit and placed them on a random background.
13:48 This moment right here when I first saw it on Twitter was absolutely priceless, and Max's reaction is practically the cherry on top. "YOU(holds breath and explodes)...FUCKING JESUS CHRIST!!!"
"you must defeat sheng long to stand a chance" The rumor I'd heard was when Akuma first appeared, people thought he was Sheng Long, Ken and Ryu's supposed master.
Funny thing about the SFII anime movie appearance is that when it aired on TV or when watched on Fullscreen VHS of the time, he's actually positioned perfectly to be cut out of the frame, making him an even more elusive figure for fans to theorize about. Some fans would see him and swear he was there when they watched it, but when they went looking for him or when telling friends about him, he was no where to be found!
This reminded me of that one fanart of Chris has a yaoi thing with Piers in RE6 or Luke kissing Jaime... I'm not even joking, this is why the entire Capcom fans keeps asking if Chris Redfield was gay or not... and I don't know how to answer this 🤣
I think Shin Akuma in SFA2 was the hardest. They even added a mode in one of the rereleases that lets you skip the method to fight him in arcade and just fight him in thr most dramatic stage in A2.
I actually experienced the mystique of Akuma after its "era" in Vanilla SF4 Even when you beat the game with everyone there's still 3 character slots. To unlock the rest, you had to play Arcade mode with no continues, get a perfect, and beat Seth with a Super or Ultra and then he'd pop in as a boss and if you beat him, he became playable. That shit was wild.
"Akuma on the side of the road, eating oranges" Me and a buddy just happened to notice that while watching. We used to randomly bring it up. "Right but like.. akuma on the side of the road eating oranges though"
I remember watching Justin's video when he put it out and, even knowing Akuma was supposed to be brutal, I was stunned by how much he absolutely destroyed tourney players. He really lived up to his "I am power made flesh!" quote. And of course this was before health regen in 6, so he'll be even more terrifying now.
7:55 There is another way to fight Akuma in Street Fighter alpha without inputing the code to fight Akuma on the first level: get to the final level with 10 super combo finishes and without continuing.
*Back in the day for Sega Saturn port of SF Alpha 1:* I took a VHS tape and recorded the Random select. On the VCR you could see the numbers on the seconds dial. I counted them and was able to go back to the game, counting the seconds to when he showed up, and was LUCKILY able to select Akuma & Bison each. I never did that again and always just used the codes.
That Birdie would turn out to be the only one capable of smackign around Akuma with impunity was NOT what I expected when I started this video. But it amuses me greatly to imagine Birdie as the secret top-tier of the Street Fighter universe, so I'll allow it.
MAAAAN I have been waiting for Akuma since they announced he's coming to SF6. Seeing that trailer was too hype and I have been on these Akuma legacy vids heavy! Leggo 🔥🔥
The part of this video where max talks about figuring out enough about the boss fight to feel confident he could eventually win without pure cheese reminds me of when i was going for the Capcom Fighting Collection (2022) achievement for beating every game's arcade mode and how i'd get stuck on hsf2ae or some of the dark stalkers and most of all cyberbots final boss. I spent HOURS stuck on some of these games but only hsf2ae did i HAVE to use pure cheese. I felt super proud of myself when i finally beat cyberbots and pyron through trial and error and practice.
I love ps1 sfa1, I was blown away by the graphics and music. I loved popping the cd in my cd player and listening to hidden tracks. Sure there were bigger alpha games but this one is still my favorite.
I hope Max talks about the greatest version of Akuma ever made... Street Fighter the Movie the Game Akuma! He was played by Ernie Reyes Sr. Akuma design in SFTMTG was very 90s and I LOVE IT! His fighting stance is actually cool. His theme in the console version is very underrated 🎵 Finally, flame tatsu 🔥 very ahead of the time
It's awesome that in this version of the game, you can go through the game without using a continue (you can lose rounds, unlike Alpha 2) and getting 10 super combo finishes, or just using the code as mentioned.
WOW!!! You Beat AKUMA On one of the HARDEST Games to Fight Him On Too!! PLUS You Also Took Him Out With Style!! JUST THE WAY Ken Would have Wanted It. (SO GLAD your doing an Akuma LEGACY, SO Awesome!)
I can't wait to pick back up the game I haven't touched since launch week, go straight for Akuma master, and fucking die 1000 deaths in an attempt to learn Akuma.
I never actually played Alpha 1 until the Alpha Anthology on PS2. I did play Alpha 2 on the SNES back in the day though. Overall I'd have to say that Cyber Akuma in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and Shin Akuma in SVC Chaos are probably one of the most toughest versions.
man i saw Max just suffer vs Alpha 1 Akuma as Ken mad respect that he won the fight legit and not with cheese moves although the Stun Punish was a hint of cheese
My favorite akuma cameo's were in street fighter 2 V because I bought the box set at Walmart 14 years ago and paused every scene he was in because I'm pretty sure it was every episode.
Honestly i could spend hours and hours watching Max talking about videogames, especially fighting games. His knowledge and experience is something that i admire the most from him.
The Shin Gouki i mentioned previously has a stomp instead of the weird aerial lay down and can divekick out of the demon flip (in addition to the janky punch and ol faithful)
I think what's even wilder imo is that, with what's been established as Akuma not holding back with the changes to his moveset when he becomes Shin Akuma, this is still theoretically Akuma holding back
So what you are saying is, if Akuma reigns supreme in SF6, they will have to add my man Birdie to save the day... I'm all for this! (Great video. Max's pure unfiltered "what the FUCK" had me cackling)
I'm such a fan I have his Demon sign tattoo'd on my arm for life. Love SF since I was a kid me and my older brother use to play SF 2 on Sega, all the way to SF6 what a journey!
I played as Akuma for the very first time in my life thanks to the (pretty impressive) Game Boy Color port of this game. Same stuff : he is only "selectable" via random (like Bison and Dan who also where playable in this port). I still got my cartridge and boot it from time to time. The crazy part is you can also use the Shun Goku Satsu/Raging Demon on GBC using the traditionnal input (LP, LP, forward, LK, HP)
I always thought the Demon Flip follow up where he just falls on his ass was hilarious. I guess they wanted some sort of axe kick but had to reuse frames
I love how Akuma is basically a god but still has to make a living and does so by selling fruit on the street like the image of Akuma walking with a basket to the forest to collect fruit is just really funny to me. There is just something so satisfying about fighting an extremelly hard boss not just in fighting games but in games in general that i just never get tired off and Akuma is no exception.
The fact he flies in and kills your first opponent is so badass. I can’t imagine the hype of doing this accidentally at the height of arcade popularity.
