Why I do handstands: 1. It's cool 2. I can improve my gymnastic (and with this I can be cooler) As always, great video.

Why handstands? They make be feel better mentally and physically! Really. When I feel a bit down or sad... one or a few good handstands puts a smile back on my face. Suddenly, things are not so bad. I'm told that the view upside down is much better sometimes.

"Appreciating the little wins", great advice as always Tom ;) Also my why for handstands is a mix between achieving handstand pushups, presses, etc and purely enjoyment of the process (probably one of the ways I enjoy the most training my body)

Great video again. Really appreciate and share your thougts about the insane learning process. I personnaly train handstands for this eternal struggle, and the sort of mistery there still is in the beautiful skill.

I do Handstand because i love the movement! I feel a very cool energy doing, freedom and peace, At the same time i’m focused and aware of breath, shoulders, wrist and my balance. All time i do a Handstand i learn some new thing, it’s fabulous!.

I started handstands because they are hard to learn, and I love challenges. Then I fell in love, and now it's become a passion. As far as difficult things to learn, I'm practicing 5 ball cascade, and pretty much everything that you said in the video, applies to learning it aswell! Awesome content Tom, as always, keep it up :D

@Dan Don I'm pretty good on my hands now. I can hold a straight handstand for at least 30 sec on command. I do also handstands on gymnastics parallel bars. Also all kinds of leg movements, tuck handstand also pretty good. I've been doing it for 2 and a half years now.
@nasalmirror
@nasalmirror 5 лет назад
@Dan Don yes, and it's not that strange that it takes that amount of time to become very proficient at standing on your hands. It takes time, effort and many hours of practice to be good at handstands.

Started 2 years ago (now 66 yrs old).Saw a cat do it in a yoga class and just thought it was cool.Now working on the OAHS.Know I'm running out of time, so practicing most days.Not easy, but glad to hear from your video it's a bit of a journey, thank you

Watching you struggle at 5:40 and feeling your suffering... From the yoga stand point the pose (or trying to get into the pose) allows you to be completely in the moment. No external thoughts. Treasure these moments on your journey to the OAHS. You will get there. It may be just around the corner.

Im learning handstands because they look very cool. And I learned after age 55, so what isn't cooler than that? Never did gymnastics, or was terribly athletic, but now that I have more time, and am working hard on my health and strength, I decided to give it a try. Took me 2 months to just get the kick up down consistently. Now I'm working on balance, but it's hard to get your hands to act like feet. I've watched every video on handstand! (all 5K of them!)Learned it all on you tube, and I appreciate all the help I get from guys like you. My LT goal is to get off the wall and be able to balance for 10 secs. I've hit 5 seconds once or twice, but my brain is afraid to get off the wall, and I need a good bail before i can feel safe. Still working on that.

I started training handstands solely to do handstand pushups. Then I enjoyed being upside down. I’m 6’3” and have poor shoulder mobility so I ended up mangling a wrist about two weeks in. No more handstands on the floor for a bit. 2.5 months in now and I can get a 10s handstand on parallettes pretty consistently but my wrist is taking forever to heal. Your vids helped me identify my mobility issue so I’m working on that regularly now. Thx. 👍🏼

I like handstands because they bring you into the present moment, if you're not 100% there and focused, it won't work. I like the feeling of being upside down, the feeling of control and fine tuning of the body. sometimes I think about how you're holing up the planet with your hand/s. and it looks cool...

I learn handstands because they are simple and complicated at the same time. Shout out to the tucks because it truly teaches how to push with your shoulder, its not a vertical push but a diagonal one, which is kinda of counterintuitive but just as everything in handstands

I truly appreciate your perspective on learning this skill.... Why I do handstands: 1. Deep-rooted obsessiveness. 2. I like the sensation of balancing on my hands and being tall. 3. They make me feel younger than I am (nearly 49).

I highly recommend incorporating some more deloads in your training. Your body needs some time to realize the improvements, and also to come out of the adaptation slightly so that you can readapt yourself. Some of my best gains come after deloads

This look like such a fun move to train but i want to get my press to handstand down perfectly before i go for the OAHS. On an unrelated note, what should one do if one is trying to improve their pike flexibility but their testicles keep getting in the way? should the feet be widened a little bit maybe? asking for a friend.

Since you asked: I do handstands to have a bulletproof shoulder joints for when I'm really old. I started at 37, now almost 40, I can now do a proper handstand, recently I also achieved straddle press to HS (thanks to you in some part). I know that most human beings tend to have problems with shoulder joint somwtime during their lives. When I'm 80 I want to still be able to RUN to cacth a bus.

I used to be a bboy and did a lot of tumbling as well for over a decade, but after getting older I had to switch to something lower impact. Training for the OAH is something that still feels somewhat similar to my prior training, and is one of the few "fun" things for me that isn't so hard on the body. Funny that you call this the hardest thing you ever had to learn - I feel exactly the same! This is coming from being able to do multiple airflares, 20 or so continuous flares, and most other power moves in breakdancing. None of that required the same time and dedication as the OAH.

I want to learn handstands because of the sport I do (freestyle football). Handstands are getting a big part of it and a lot of freestylers have taken it to the next level already. The tucked handstand is actually the position where they'll balance the ball on their sole, it's crazy hard

Doing handstand because ithey're cool and because I feel like they improve EVERY movement aspect of my life, as if it can be considered some very base movement pattern (standing upside-down). Back in the day did you feel like normal handstand was the hardest thing you had to learn? I feel like it and I've done some wierd shit, when I started taking handstand seriously I didn't think it would have been soooo hard! Cheers
