Lily, you have made the right choice by going to Matt. I can relate a lot to how you feel, last year thought I was un-drivable, went to Matt’s Go2 and within 10 lessons, I was passing my test, here in Derby, with 1 fault. English is not my first language, didn’t know the area, but can tell that IT IS POSSIBLE! Keep it up, soon you will be driving on your own 🚙
Lily you're doing amazing!! Driving didn't come naturally to me at all. It took me a year to even feel comfortable driving a manual car and over 2 years and thousands of pounds worth of lessons to pass my test. I had 3 instructors who just were not right for me but my 4th instructor was so patient and had so much confidence in me and he helped me pass my test, which was the best feeling in the world after how much time, money and patience I put into it! I feel so much more confident and safer on the road and you'll get there too!
I had my first lessons when I was 18 and the instructor was vile and I just took the abuse and failed my test horribly. It took me 25 years to pluck up the courage to try again because I was thinking I was useless. I passed last year after 39 lessons all of which I cried afterwards and felt like the thickest person alive! I am still learning and make loads of errors but you just keep going and pick yourself up each time. You are amazing Lilly for trying!
You’ve got this Lily!! You remind me so much of myself when I was learning as I was very anxious and nervous at first. I passed over a year ago now but I wish I had you to watch when I was learning! You’re so relatable to the learners who maybe need a bit more time gaining confidence - it’s so easy to think that everyone picks driving up so quickly but I think you’re going represent us who didn’t feel comfortable straight away and that it’s actually okay to take your time! I think it’s so amazing that you and Matt are sharing your journey with us, I love how determined you are and look forward to watching your progress ❤️
Doesn't matter if you spend £10 or a million, your journey is your own, your destination is the same, you have that dream of driving and you're working towards it. All other negative comments should mean nothing to you, they don't get you towards your goal, it's nothing more than crowd chatter during a symphony.
What nasty nasty comments below. We all learn at our own paces, and she clearly lacks confidence and just needs to build up her confidence and I think she will be just fine. I had similar cofidence issues to her and passed my test over 7 years ago; not a single accident, not a single scratch on my car. Shame on those below. We are all human beings and have feelings. Lilly your doing great negative breeds negative they are a reflection of them selfs writing and stating negative comment. They are waste matter i know its kinda hard to ignore but i know you have ignored a majority of those negative people and focused on positive feedback to help you you along your driving journey along the way. Sending massive hugs for you. Ive been told to go in atomic from my 3rd instructor. I point blank refused to accept that as ive got no problem with the gears. I felt he struggled to teach me and also was a trainee driver instructor. This driver instructor is no longer teaching because he failed his part 3 again. Don't let anyone get to you your a strong person you can do it .positive vibes all around. I have been knocked down a lot of times because family and people in general said im useless and i cont do anything. Multiple times i have proved them wrong. Im the only one from 3 siblings to be continuing my driving lesson. Im glad ive got a fantastic driving instructor now who is patient ,carm and teaching me at my pace. He adapts to my every need each lesson. We can both do it keep in touch with me and we can both give positive feedback/vibe back on our progress. Your doing fantastic 💛
Hi Lilly, I was really humbled by your honesty throughout these videos. It takes real courage to speak so openly about your struggles as you do. Thank you for this - it was refreshing to see a driving video with such acknowledgement to anxiety. I also struggle with driving anxiety and can totally relate. Well done for not giving up - you are so resilient and I believe that you will get there and you will be an amazing, experienced driver! All the best :) P.S.: please don’t say that learning on an automatic is a “cop out” - this can also come across as hurtful.
Hi Lily, I admire your bravery and determination. I learned to drive late in my late 40'S it took me a year. I was petrified! Lol I used to get panic attacks, anxiety u name it. I took herbal remedies to help calm me down. Sometimes I didn't want to even get in the car. My foot used to shake on the clutch peddle. I now know why it was hard for me, I'd had a bereavement. I got pass the fear myself I used to meditate and watch as many vids as poss on driving on U Tube. I've been driving 9 years this yr. I'm still a little nervous sometimes. Stay with it girl! U can do it! Remember when u pass to post a vid of u driving one of your partners cars. Good Luck in all u do. 🤗🙏😊
Hey it's ok I spent 1200 pounds myself and I learnt hard way one thing I noticed is that it is difficult after certain age to learn thats what happened to me and it's natural I cleared on 3rd attempt btw
Everyone has a different learning journey Lilly don’t listen to negativity no matter who you are you will get mean comments. I think you’ve just had bad luck and not been paired with instructors that teach you the way you need to be taught, I can see already you have found the right instructor and he will build your confidence. Lilly you will get there!! it took me a few years to learn to drive and i had 3 different driving instructors in total. once you find the right instructor it makes a huge difference if you are an anxious person (i am myself). Interesting to hear your perspectives on manual v automatic cars. Ashley Neal who runs a driving school and popular driving channel says he thinks automatic cars are the way to go.
Stick at it Lilly. Thinking back to learning to drive (30+ years ago now) one of the most difficult parts was getting things like gear changes and clutch control so that I could do them at the same time as concentrating on other things. When you’re starting out those skills take all your concentration, and don’t leave much room for anything else. But it really is just practice combined with a good instructor, so now you’ve found one I’m sure you’ll be making huge strides in the coming weeks. In fact I can see your confidence improving already.
A truly great instructor and an equally great student. Spare a positive thought for those who are currently incapable of doing the same for you - because it's they who are sadly lacking. I'm confident this respectful and collaborative instructor/student partnership will deliver successful outcomes. Keep up the excellent work, Lilly.

as someone who was in her position (hated on while trying to be helpful to others by allowing Matt to film my lessons) I think people who are trying to be smarta**es and act like 'pro drivers' or otherwise criticize the learners on any driving channels, you are forgetting that we paid money for the lessons and allowed to film so you could learn as well - FOR FREE! We could have easily said no and none of you would have heard the helpful tips Matt gave on the lessons. Also future learners may say no to filming because of the hate they have seen on driving channels so in the long run - you haters are hurting yourselves. I wish Lily the best of luck, and at least know you are in great hands now :) And also i do remember all the nice comments others had so thank you for that! Good luck to everyone still learning :)

I can relate to you so much thankyou to the both of you for recording your journey, I had an instructor that wasn't good for me and It definitely knocked my confidence I am such an anxious driver but I know I will do it... eventually! I'm so lucky now to have an instructor that's very similar to Matt in the way he teaches and understands my anxious brain ! I can't wait for you to pass Lily because you deserve it 💗 🚗
Everybody learns at different rates and some people could take advantage of that "previous instructors" but now you have got one of the best in England good look on paving a path forward 👍
Lilly, know that you will pass in your own time and everybody is completely different. No one is born knowing how to drive, but lots of people forget this when they get on the road!!! I spent 2 years learning and had several driving instructors and finally passed in 2018. I felt anxious at times when learning to drive and felt at times like I wouldn't pass, but the practice has made me a more experienced driver. Having a patient and calm instructor is so important - in every lesson you will make progress and become a more confident driver. Don't be discouraged by trolls - it's so easy for them to hide behind a username and criticise. Do not even give them the time of day - they are not even worth your time and energy. Keep your head up and keep persevering with the driving! We are all rooting for you! :)

Even impatient school teachers need to learn from this video and this series. I was Lilly during sixth form but changed schools and came out the otherside. Now I'm working for the biggest company in my field before even graduating university
Great videos and Instant subscribe from me, Lily just keep focussed on your end goal, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs, everyone has their own journey. Block out the negative and keep your chin up. You will do it! I can’t stress how important it is to have a good and encouraging instructor.
I passed for 1 year 10 months. It took me 2 1/2 years due to been anxious to get my manual drive licence. For me I need a manual driving license for my job. Lily you got this.
Hi Lily, you are such a lovely lady and I'm so glad you are doing this! I took 20+ hours when I was 18 and gave up as I just felt hopeless and my instructor just didn't understand me. I have just started lessons again (I'm 23 now) and while I still feel anxious I know I will be able to do it. I'll be following your journey, you got this! (We both do!😁) Xx

Bro lily listen u can do this I feel u should watch more of Matt vidoes in your spare time also check out other channels online like world driving I highly recommend y do that bc that can help y alot plus I've just turned 17 and haven't even received my provisional but I feel very confident and want to drive which bc I'm a car giy plus I've been watching Matt and other channels online that's why
I had a hire car once, first time i driven an auto and i felt a lot less control, very jerky doing slow moves like parking, and would not change up to top gear on a slight hill at 70mph so the car was screaming. wrong engine with wrong gear box, but my main point is i felt a lot less control in a auto but it was my first time using an auto. Lilly i would stick with manual, much more rewarding and more options after you pass. i also use driving shoes so im able to feel the peddles what makes it much more easy for clutch control. my advice is learn at a pace what suits you, as many nerves you can get rid if while learning the better it is after you pass, i added a few months on to my lessons, going out 3-4 hours a week until i felt ready for my last lessons, i knew i could drive but i had t get my nerves in check first. you get there Lilly, stay positive, focus on the end goal, it arrive faster than you think :)
I'm going through the same thing as Lily but haven't found an instructor like Matt but like Lily won't give up, she comes across as a lovely person and she is doing the right thing not given up Never Give Up and anyone who is negative towards her has no hearth and no empathy and should keep there comments to themselves no one wants to hear it

If it makes you feel better lily I've really enjoyed watching your last video and I am looking forward to this series as I am at the same stage in my learning journey and have had many of the same troubles as you as I also had a bad driving instructor experience where I was not taught the very basics and that it made me doubt my ability to learn to drive because they were expecting me to know without me actually understanding why I was doing actions and when I questioned or raised concerns it was made to feel bad like I was dumb and I was annoying. You video really helped me feel less like I was alone in my anxieties and how like me we over complicating things because we over anaylse, I do that alot too. Its hard to put yourself out there and be honest and show vulnerablity on the Internet, and I applaud you for it because by you doing that you are a inspiration for all those who like us underestimate our ability that we can do it and also you giving people the confidence to change instructors if they don't work for you. I'm currently with a lovely lady now and within the first 2 hours I progressed rapidly because I felt at ease and without judgement. I wish you the best and look forward to your journey x
I haven't watched the video but it's easy for others to judge! It took me a long time and 3 tests however I am safer for it. I've been driving for 2.5 years now and still find I learn from certain situations. You will get there, give yourself time and don't let others put you down. As my driver instructor used to say "you're just as good as them so dont worry about it!"
Lily, Ignore all the haters, you will learn at your own pace. I am registered disabled so I have to drive an automatic, but so what I have had my licence for 4 years now and I absolutely love driving and the independence it gives me. I tried to learn a manual for over 3 years and then I stopped my lessons for 6 years. I then thought blow it I'm gonna learn in an auto to make my life easier and above all safer for me and everyone else. GOOD LUCK LILY You CAN DO IT.
Another great video. Lilly, keep the communication up. Tell Matt everything ( about your driving only, he's not a social worker 😂😂) that you don't undrstand, not sure of, or need confidence with. Teaching clients like yourself is so rewarding but only, like Matt said, if they are like yourself and communicate. You remind me of one of my Clients. Very nervous, worries about everything but, at first she was quiet and didn't really tell me how she felt and I was relying on watching her reaction and body language to try to work out what she was thinking ( no man should ever try to read a ladies mind 😉) One lesson she opened up and now we have a great working relationship where we work on the things she needs to and she now feels more confident that I will only suggest us trying a subject when I know she can handle it. Keep it up and don't let the other comments get to you. Driving is a strange thing, very few people think they are a bad driver, it just got that stigma to it and others always know best, in their opinion. Stand in a room of 20 drivers and ask them " who can kick a football " & everyone who can will put their hand up. Ask them " if you can kick a football, can England sign you up for the team " the hands will go down. Ask " who can drive " hands will go up. Ask " who's a good driver " most hands will stay up. Just the way it is.

Most people will always find something negative to say and point out things but there are good hearted people too and you are doing great, keep up the good work and just ignore them. It doesn't matter how you do things, what matters is that you are trying but not only that, you are also doing fantastic!!!

Lily keep at it! I once stalled my instructors car so much that that it wouldn’t start again and we had to call roadside assistance, you’re a learner driver, you’re not going to be a perfect driver yet , you have a great driving instructor and you’ll get there in no time!

You guys are the best. And yes, its about persistence. I was an anxious learner myself too and took ages to pass..... also because i was learning when in late 20's, later than most people. So just keep going. Good point with the instructors too. When I was finally done, my instructor was proud of me and said that probably a lot of students in my position would have switched to automatic instead of continuing with manual Za uspeash Lili! My mom wants to start to learn to drive. She is extremely nervous and has no self confidence, im going to tell her to follow this journey so she doesn’t feel so alone. Don’t listen to any people commenting on being cruel and mean or anything negative. They do it for their sick kicks to hurt! Don’t let them stand in your way Lilly at achieving your goal. You’re brave, you’re still trying and that should deserve admiration. Most people would give up... I know I would have probably. It’s very tough to learn to drive especially when you get older and haven’t had the right learner. I know preparation can help before your lessons... even before you get in the car! Meditation/yoga, a walk around the block can help you with reactions on the road as well as a calm mind. Best of luck Lilly and sure Matt can get you there. Don’t listen to any doubters... prove them wrong! Just have faith in yourself

Ignore any negative comments. If you ever get any negative comments again, use that negativity to fire you up and prove them wrong. Your doing amazing and everyone learns at different paces. You've had so many lessons with other instructors and they just wasn't right for you but finally you've found someone who is going to help you massively. I've had 4 2hr lessons so far and some days r better than others. I just hope I don't go backwards after having to cancel my lesson yesterday due to being unwell🙈😫 my instructor was very understanding though, hes great!

Lilly be strong. I have pass near 2 years.because I was so nervous and panic to drive I took in automatic car and I pass first time .my intructor said to try automatic and I did and I feel very well. I don’t really care what people think about it.but I can drive and I can go to everywhere. Iv commented on the Facebook group , I don't normally comment on here, I did say to her that I believe in her and I KNOW she can do it! 💪 It is difficult to brush off the negetive but matt gave great advice, we are all equal beings and all are capable of doing whatever we set our minds too I can see her potential and she's very determined, she will do this 🙂
Good luck lily! You will pass. I was told after 5 lessons about 7 hours with wrong instructor that I would be looking at over a year to learn in a manual then spent 45 minutes telling me that I should learn in automatic. I have now changed instructors and after 2 lessons I have learned much more with my new instructor than I did with my 1st instructor. You can do this!!!

Aww Lily, bless your wee socks. It's so difficult to read horrid comments, especially when they're about you. These people are just horrible with little else to do with their time. Everyone has their own learning style. Took me 5 years of on and off lessons to learn to drive and pass my test, and a big part of that was finding the right instructor - which I'm sure you have here, you both seem to have really gelled. You seem like a lovely and genuine person, and it takes some amount of bravery to put yourself out there during lessons. That adds to the pressure, and I think you're doing great. Give it time and patience and those gears will just become second nature to you.
i know it's hard but ignore the hateful comments. what she needs to realize is most of the people leaving these comments don't even have a license themselves. they think they know best but in fact they know very little.

Imagine being so NASTY to someone who is only trying to learn. No one got in the car, and just knew what they were doing, me included. These trolls must lead very, very sad and insecure lives. Lily, you’re a bigger better person. We all started somewhere!
I struggled learning to drive and changed my instructor she whined and then texted me she could teach me as she wasn’t well. It well enough to take my money for over 4 months. I got another instructor and he was fantastic, explained much better at my own pace. I recommend him to anyone looking in my area. It took me nearly over two years and I eventually passed on my 3rd time. You will do it I thought it wouldn’t happen for me but it did. Also it’s expensive to learn in an automatic double the price that’s why I didn’t.
I had a similar situation. I'm not a native english speaker. I'm from the country where we drive on the other side. I belived that driving was not for me. When I finally decided to get my driving licence I had a lot to overcome. After about 55 lessons I passed the test first time. I was very proud of myself and..I got a negative comment because I needed SOOOOO MANY lessons to pass. I think those negative comments are useless and they reflect only the level of counciousnes that person who is nothing else but an energetic vampire.
Breaks my heart to hear of all that hate. You've shown true determination and bravery to keep working on your driving despite finding it difficult. Also, it is really nerve wracking being filmed and put on RU-vid. Not many people are able to do that so massive well done 🙂. Being half Canadian I'm not sure I entirely agree about automatics being just for the disabled or a cop out 🤣. I very much enjoy my vw golf DSG and find it just as much fun using the paddles as I did changing gears in my previous manual Ford fiesta.
This is so true we need to talk to our driving instructors otherwise they don't know what to help you with! But then, when the themselevs don't talk much either it's a bit strange and can get very awkward.. and plus lilly please dont cry over haters they are not not worth your energy or time :) you are doing so well and better than most people trust me
Lily, this video is amazing but for the wrong reasons! Everyone’s driving skills are different and just because we learn differently from other shouldn’t make your experience any different! Keep doing what your doing keep smiling and being happy.
People are just too much judgmental these days, people been calling me so manythings over the last idk 10 years or so and yes it hearts inside im sad but I always joke around and keep others happy or smile or try my best to do something for someone even though I'm not rich im not fit im not too cleaver but im a human and everyone is different. Every one makes mistakes my dad made a mistake and had lost 40 grand and that was when we were living in council flat and now we struggling with my parents living in a rent house and no one helped us no one even looked at us, but i have a aim to reach in a position or in better position than those who looked at us with negative eyes and had those words which never helped us.
